Nicki Doll and Meet Outfit « Thread Started on Jan 5, 2007, 3:55pm »
Nicki arrived today. I don't have AG 23 or Lindsey to compare her to, just Kit. She has light blue eyes and more freckles than Kit does. She has feathery eyebrows. The stamp on the back of her neck says Pleasant Company. So far everyone has shown pictures of her next to AG 23, so what I did was put her next to a doll with blond hair and one with brown hair to show the hair color better.
Her meet top is a long sleeved lightweight bodysuit with velcro closure in the back. The bottom portion is off white cotton meant to look like underwear. Undo the velcro in the back, pull arms out of the sleeves and slip it off like you would a leotard. The buttons on the front are nonfunctional. The eyelet design and pattern are very pretty.
The skirt is has back velcro closure and is made of a very thin faux suede material. The brown belt is the same material and sewn onto the skirt. The embroidery here is nicely done.
The meet boots are cute, but lightweight, thin fake leather type material. They are not lined on the inside. They have back velcro closure and a heel. She seems to stand pretty well in them so far.
I give this outfit a B. They could have used a thicker material. The skirt on the new meet JLY outfit is more heavy weight than this is. The boots should have had some lining I think.

I totally agree Monica! I would also rate her meet outfit low. I would actually go with a C or B-.
One thing I can't stand is that the girl has NO underwear! What is up with that? A commando dolly? It is one thing not to give the girls socks. It is another for her to go commando. I mean even a military soldier is issued undies.
The skirt is flimzy. Don't skimp on the outfits guys. And did the belt really need to be attached? Couldn't you have let us do that? A belt is a pretty simple thing and good for kids fine motor skills.

I love her hair! I think it looks a lot better once you brush it out a little. Her freckles are absolutely adorable. A!
As for her meet outfit, it's not as great. I really don't like that the shirt is a bodysuit. I know it's probably to keep the shirt tucked in, but... why?! Especially when she has a skirt outfit! Nicki needs underwear. The skirt is a bit flimsy, but I like it. The boots are cute, but do seem a little cheap to me. B

I love Nicki. I was kind of worried about her curls at first, but it seems like they are going to be very easy to care for!
I was able to use a regular wig brush on her with out any problems. Spritzing her brushed hair with water helped keep the curls pretty. Here are some photos to show her hair in a few different styles. Sorry, I am not much of a stylist, but maybe they will help show how her hair stands up to play.
RIGHT after play and a light misting/scrunching:
After a good spritzing, scruncing, and sitting to dry over night. (We played with her all day yesterday, so she did not get a good chance to dry till we went to sleep.)

Nicki Doll: B+
My dear sweet nicki arrived yesterday. I think she is just adorable. Her freckles are the perfect touch and her eyebrows are carefully drawn. I love her meet outfit as well. I sort of like her leotard underwear/shirt. This way, I don't have to tuck it into the skirt myself. Her blue skirt is oh-so soft and has beautiful embroidery.
The reason I rated her a B+ instead of an A+ is because of her hair. While it is a pretty and a nice color, her hair sort of loses its curly-ness after you use your pic it out. I am nervous when styling because I'm so afraid that the curls will get messed up!
I love nicki!

Nicki just came yesterday. She is very sweet. The hair is a caramel color and curly, But definetly Not frizzy. She has a lot of freckles and BLUE eyes. Doll-A+++++
Meet outfit. Overall this outfit is cute. The shirt as mentoin before is like a leotard. The skirt is a bit flimsy but it is OK. The boots are my favorite accent of the look. The are faux leather and lace trimmed. But, NO undies! Grrrrrrrrrrr........... Outfit B+

I just sent my Nicki back.
The doll they sent me had a very thin wig...so much so that the wig cap was visible when Nicki was just sitting there with her hair down.
Also, her freckles had dark brown, almost black paint splotches in the middle of the bigger freckles. I 've never heard of this, but it was immediately noticable and terribly annoying when I got the doll out of the box.
Anna's doll pictured above looks 100 times better than what AG sent me. That's why I sent it back. I'm posting this here so people might be forewarned...Nicki seems to be a hit or miss in getting a good doll. When I ordered her, I was kind of expecting a thin wig because of other reviews. But the faulty freckles and my dislike of her meet outfit in person were too much. Back to AG she went.
ETA: Return shipping was free. I called AG and because I was displeased with the quality of the item, they sent out a return label that arrived in 2 days, despite the woman-on-the-phone's claim that it could take up to 10 days to arrive.

Not much of a review, since most of the others cover the basics very well. Just wanted to add that MY Nicki has "American Girl" on the back of her neck unlike the first reviewer's Nicki. I bought her in early March 2007.

Nicki is here and she is BEAUTIFUL!
I love her wig. It's soft and silky and in great condition. I just took her out and I LOVE her! I started crying for some reason also.
Her meet outfit B-. I love it, but no underwear bugs me.
The doll itself is an A+. Simply beautiful. I will post some pictures tommarrow
EDIT:
Earlier this year (08') I sold my Nicki on ebay. I couldn't put up with the hair any longer. I tried everything I could, I never used a brush, just a pick. And her hair dried and frizzed. But I got it the best I could so some other girl could love her. She's a great doll, but I couldn't risk ruining her.
~~**HAPPY HOLIDAYS!**~~ My Dolls: Back row-Jess, Nellie, Kailey Second row- Samantha, Julie, Marisol, Kaya First row- Josefina, Sarah Nicole (#14) Dolls I want: Jocelyn (Rebecca- mini me), Elizabeth, and Chrissa(Will be re-named).

I bought a Nicki doll yesterday. I am completely fascinated by her. However, before I begin my review, I have to tell you that the doll is being transformed into one of my characters and thus not staying as Nicki Fleming.
- The hair is one of my favorite aspects. So far I have had no problem combing it with the pick I bought at AGBBA. I braided it in loose braids that have stayed braided as well. - The freckles on mine are not dark at all. I put glasses on my doll, and someone cannot tell she has freckles. - Wig seems fine in thickness so far. - The outfit skirt is pretty, though I wish the belt were removable. - What's up with their making the shirt a bodysuit instead of giving her underwear? OK, so I bought the underwear set that I was planning on getting anyway. The bodysuit fits on top of the underpants and camisole. However, it is still not the easiest or most fun thing to put on. Actual bodysuit's shirt is pretty. - Boots are...cow-handy! I would have put socks under them as well- which I did.
Overall:
- A+ for the doll per se. - C+ for the outfit. Would be a solid B if it included underwear.

Could someone please tell me what color her hair is exactly? I am thinking of buying her for my daughter. I wanted to buy a "Just Like Me" Doll, but there is not one that is just like her. My daughter has light blue eyes and blonde hair (with a slight strawberry tint). In some of the pictures Nicki looks like she has the same color hair as my daughter, and in some of the pictures she looks as if she has brown hair. I would love any input anyone can give me that has her. Thank You!!!!

Her hair is a very light brownish-blonde. It's a sandy color, but without red-tones. Most of the red-tones in the photographs in this thread are probably due to reflection from red things, or how the picture was taken. But nearly all the photos I've seen have the brownish-blonde.

PROS: My Nicki's freckles are fine - in fact, they are identicle to JLY 23 and 24 (so if you don't like theirs you won't like Nicki's). I, at least, like her Meet outfit, though I don't like that she has no underwear (it's 87.00 for goodness sake - include underwear!!) If her hair becomes uncurled, you can curl her hair with your finger after spraying her hair with mist. It works well.
CONS:Her wig cap has a slight bump in the back, but I got mine in March and I think they are better now. Mine's not too bad so I am not going to exchange her. Her hair is curly and can be hard to take care of. Mine is slighty pufffy, but not bad.
Overall, I'd get her!!

I love Nicki she right now is sitting in my lap and she looks so sweet I absolutley adore her as well as my other dolls. I would give her an A+++. I would have given her another plus but her hair is a pain to care for however it looks gorgeous. I've had Nicki since January and so far I've not had any sevre hair problems so if you are good at takeing care of any other doll's hair I'm sure Nicki would be just fine for you and also if your looking in to an Addie doll Nicki's hair is great practice.

I absolutely LOVE Nicki! I have her, & her whole collection! I have to say I like her the most out of all the Girl Of The Year Dolls. Its just because of her hair & of her story they set for her, its just so touching! (Nicki Doll) A++! All of her clothes & things are just so cute, they also get an A+, by me. & even though she is now leaving & making room for the newest Girl Of The Year Mia, we will never forget her! Good-bye Nicki, you were great!

I ordered my Niki either the day or the day before she sold out.I am so happy with her. For the doll I would give her an A+, I absolutley love her hair. For the outfit togather I would give an A-. The skirt is ok, really cute but could have thicker fabric.I would give it an A. the shirt is cute as well, but it is really hard to get it on any of my dolls, but I do wish she came with underware. It gets a B. Last but not least the boots, they get an A from me.They look nice and are easy to get on.They are among my favorite shoes. Altogather for the whole doll I give her an A.

Nicki's Meet Outfit:
* A cream eyelet bodysuit with pearlescent buttons * A faux-wrap skirt with floral embroidery * Faux-leather boots with lace trim
That's it. No undies! But still the outfit is very nicely made. The belt does not come off the skirt. The buttons on the body suit do not open. Both items close in the back with velcro. Overall Grade B

I think Nicki herself should get an A++ she is so cute.. and I love her freckles and curly hair.
her outfit on the other hand is fine, but she has no undies and her boots are so hard to get on and off, and they make me shudder. Together it get's a B

I love everything about Nicki! I just got her Christmas! Her hair color and syle is so cute!!!!!! The boots are so adorable I want them for me! The no underwear thing doesn't mind me that much. Over all, I'd give her an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!!!

We just got our Nicki today. I mean Savannah got her Nicki today. Anyway, I rate the outfit lower then the doll as well. I think some of the details were cute...I liked the embroidery and thought the boots were cute. I did not like the way the skirt fit her in the waist area. It emphasized her lack of shape and I did not like the area around the neck. It looked cheap to me. She is dang cute though! We are happy to have her!

I got my Nicki for Chirstmas. I would give her an A. Here is an album I took the day I got her: http://picasaweb.google.ca/nicole.love.dance/Nicki/photo#5173668588325920802 My Nicki's wig is thick, she has very cute curls. She has pretty blue eyes. And she has lighter freckles then JLY #23. Her skirt is very cute, it is a pretty colour of blue and pretty emroidery at the bottom. And a cute blouse, that ties in as her "underwear" at the bottom. I bought the Ready for Fun outfit, and it came with a pair of undies, so I gave them to Nicki. I love her book. Cute story! Pretty girl! Bought her in a flash!

She is a wonderful doll,I got her last october. Her hair is beautiful;caramel with curls,it's better you don't brush because it can destroy her beautiful curls, but if you want to brush brush with clean hands. Face and hair:B
Her outfit is beautiful but a kinfd of odd.Her meet blouse is strange cause everybody was expecting one blouse not a body, some it's hard to put because of the underwear. Her skirt should be jeans but it's velour. Her boots are the best part of the outfit,it's really cute. I give one=A-

I have a Nicki doll and i just LOVE her! The only down would be that, after a while, the hair gets frizzy and the curls aren't as "fake" looking! After having her for over a year, her hair looks more like naturally curly hair!

I ordered Nicki online in March 2008. Her wig is a bit thin and has a slight lump, but it is not noticeable until her wig is specifically lifted up in a certain area.
I love her outfit, except for the fact that she doesn't come with underwear. I don't know what AG was thinking on that.

My Nicki just arrived today! She came from the MCM sale (thelight139 picked her up for me) and she is pretty! I love the color of her hair and the pretty curls. Her hair is a bit thin but not everyone has thick hair in real life and it's not so bad. It seems about the same thickness as #26 and it might seem thinner because of the way the curls are. At first I had passed her up (when she was available direct from AG in 2007) but it was for dumb reasons and I realized in Jan. that I really really wanted her.
The outfit I'd rate a B+. The belt could've been detachable and the boots could've had lining but the skirt is pretty; I love the embrodiery, colorand it's soft. I don't really mind the no underwear since this is a doll, but I would've liked the bottom of the shirt to snap. I've seen shirts like that and they snap at the bottom. The eyelet is cute on the shirt though.
I definitely rate Nicki and A! (B+ for the outfit; A+ for the doll).
Picture time!

Nicki is definitely a pretty doll! I love the color of her hair, it's definitely different from what's out there. I wasn't even into AGs last year, so I missed out on her. I picked her up secondhand, and I can say I'm having a bit of trouble 'connecting' with her for some reason. I'm not a big fan of her meet outfit though. I agree with what was said about the boots, they seem cheaply made.
Nicki the doll gets an A from me, her outfit a B-. I'm afraid to comb her hair, and I haven't bonded with her as much as I have some of my other dolls. Her freckles are a few shades darker than the ones on my JLY #23 and seem more numerous. Also her skin seems to have a definite tan tinge to it, as compared to #23.
