Mia's 2-in-1 Skate Outfit $34
Comes with (from the site): ~A Fair Isle-inspired turtleneck sweater with short sleeves ~Knit gloves that cover her arms and attach to her sweater ~A denim mini skirt ~Knit leg warmers with pompoms ~A fleece hat to keep her warm ~A well-loved white hockey jersey with blue stripes ~Her hockey stick with pretend tape, and a puck
Her sweater is SO cute its really nice and it looks good without the gloves it's kind of weird that it's not a long sleeve sweater with mittens but it's still cute, Her mini skirt is a plain colour so it can be used for a lot of mixing and matching it's a great skirt there is elastic in the back of the skirt. Her hat is super cut but I don't use the hats very much. Her Jersey is nice it has dark and lite blue stripes and stars, i'm not to sure how close it looks to a real jersey but I think it looks like one. Her leg warms are nice!! The pompoms are cute but it's one of those things that it seems like it could come off with rough play.
Her hockey puck and stick, It's pink and blue kind of weird with the pink but it's cute and the puck is SO little it could be easily lost or swallowed.
Over all i'd give this outfit a B but its a really cute.

This outfit is well worth the $34. Many pieces to mix and match. I like the outfit best with the Purple Ice Skates (as the white ones are for performance). Note of importance for hockey players: Mia's hockey stick is curved for left-handed shooters. Grade A+

I know I said a couple of reviews ago I'd stop including pics of the boxes, but this one was different and neat, so I thought I'd show it: the one on top if the 2-in-1 outfit box. The one below is a JLY outfit box, for size comparison. The box for this outfit is nearly twice the size oft he box for the other outfits AG sells. In hindsight, I should have seen this coming, because of the hockey stick in there. But still, there it is.

The box opens differently, too, with a lid that is completely removable (placed on top of a box of DVRs so you can see it's not attached to the box). You can also see how the stuff was arranged inside of the box, and the hockey stick taking up most of the space inside of it. For being new and different and giving me a thrill for a few minutes, I give this box an A.
The stick. It's all plastic, including the "tape", which is just molded plastic painted a different color. As noted above, the hockey is curved so that it's meant for a leftie, which works for me because I gave it to Liz, who is a leftie. It's not a bad piece. Not the most highly detailed and the scale strikes me as a little off (the blade looks like, if it were scaled to human-size, it'd be too short, and the shaft looks too thin), but it's cute for what it is. B-
The puck, which is about the size of a nickel (included for comparison: a nickel). It has "AG" in the star on the top, and is a plastic disc about the size of three nickels stacked together (not included for comparison: three nickels stacked together). This is another thing that strikes me as a little smaller in scale than a human-sized one would be, but I'll admit I don't know much about youth hockey leagues, and maybe their pucks are smaller. I really didn't expect much more from a puck than a plastic disc, so I wasn't disappointed, just wasn't terribly impressed, either. C+
The jersey, and allow me to rant about my disappointment for a moment here, if I may. I somehow got the impression that the jersey would be a loose fit, because jerseys are sized big (you know, so you can put padding underneath them). I admit this is my bad here, because every pic of Mia on the AG site wearing the jersey shows that it's fitted, and even the pic in the review above of Mia wearing the jersey shows that it's fitted, but hope springs eternal, I guess, but I think we all can tell where this is leading: I got the outfit partially because I wanted the hockey stuff for Liz, a PM AGT who already has sizing issues as a result of being slightly overstuffed. It took a lot of grunting and struggling to get the jersey on her, and as you'll see in the pictures at the end, the result is it looks horrible and not very jersey-like on her.
But on to a more objective note. Here's the detail of the logo on the jersey, which says "STARS", and has the American Girl logo below it. The material feels similar to the material used for real jerseys, and I have to admit a slight bias for the color scheme: white, light blue, and navy blue are the colors of the Maine Black Bears, the college hockey team that I follow. I ultimately plan to find a small sew-on patch of the UMaine logo and sew it over the logo on the jersey, but I like their attempt at a team logo here, but no so much the inclusion of the AG logo (when did AG decide they have to put their logo on everything, anyway?).
And the detail of the sleeve, which includes a player number (like real professional jerseys) and the team colors. Here is an example of what I mean. If this were a professional jersey it'd be sized properly it'd also have a number and the player's name on the back, but because it's not, it's a doll jersey, we have velcro on the back instead:
Not that I'm at all surprised, though. I am still disappointed by the fit, though. Even if the fact that my doll were PM weren't an issue, jerseys just shouldn't be so tightly fitting. I wouldn't mind if it fit a little closer on Liz if it were still loose on Mattel dolls, including Mia, but this is just not the case. It's the little things that get to you, ya know? C- (But I admit it would have gotten lower if not for the colors.)
So let's move on now to things I didn't have a huge bias toward going in: the rest of it!
The hat. It took me a while and many trips consulting with pics of Mia to figure out how, exactly, it's supposed to be put on. It's a seriously weird design, like it's not a beret, but it's not a cloche, and it's really, really hard to figure out how to make it not look stupid. And the doll I put it on had a totally different hairstyle and face mold from Mia so of course it was never going to look like the picture of Mia, but ANYway, the hat. It feels sort of fleecy and soft. And it's pink. Yeah.
The underside of the hat. I'm never fond of AG hats, anyway, but once I finally figured it out, it looked pretty cute, and for that, I give it a B-.
The sweater, which is actually my favorite part of this outfit. Fair Isle sweaters are actually very popular up here in Maine, so I see them a lot, and the design is actually very similar to what you'd see an a people-sized one, and I love the color scheme on it.
Detail of the design on the sweater. It appears to be woven, not dyed in, and the sweater itself feels very soft without making me itch. Sweater-like but without sweater materials.
The button on the sleeve, which matches the color of the sweater very well, and is very small and unobtrusive, so if you decide not to put the mittens on, no one's going to remark on the weird random buttons on the sleeves. All in all, an A for the sweater.
The mittens. I expected these to be hard to pull on, but actually they went on fairly easily, I just had to spin them a bit to get the thumbs in the right places. Then I worried that there would be a gap between the sweater sleeves and the tops of the mittens, since that seemed like the kind of thing that'd never look catalog-perfect in person, but no, they actually don't have much or any gap at all up there. In all, I didn't have high hopes for these and was pleasantly surprised, except for in one area...
The loops at the top, which I came to discover are actually an extension of the elastic at the top of the mittens. So when I pulled it very gently to loop it around the buttons, guess what happened? The tops of the mittens started to cinch and the loop doubled in size! And when I pulled the tops of the mittens to try to even out the elastic ratio again, it didn't quite work. So I suggest being very, very, extremely, don't-breathe-while-doing-it careful when attaching these to the sweater. B+
The legwarmers. Meh. Maybe they're designed around the skates they made for Mia, but since I have neither Mia nor her skates and used a different pair of shoes, they were a pain to navigate and of course didn't look anything like the AG catalog images showed (and not just because I positioned the pom-poms differently). The bows are actually elastic, and the knots aren't sewn, so be careful not to tug at the pom-poms too much or you'll untie them. C-
The skirt, which would be my second-favorite part of the outfit! I love the darker color of the denim on it.
It has pockets! Albiet quite shallow ones.
It has belt loops!
It has a strip of velcro that's too short so the skirt's sort of hard to get on! Which was my only major gripe about it, really. Once it's on, it's very cute. A-

So my overall grade would be C+. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck, but for the $34 price tag, I'd really expect some better quality control here.
ETA: For those wondering, yes, the outfit does come with a hanger (and yes, just the one, despite there being two shirts). I didn't bother getting a pic of it since we've all seen AG hangers before and I don't personally use them. I know, I take pics of the boxes, but not the hangers. I'm weird.

Please ignore Sara's hilarious hairstyle. I have it up like this because it amuses me.
Overall, the set's pretty cool, especially if you're looking for a bunch of separates, but it can be pretty annoying to put on. We'll start with the sweater stuff I got for Sara:
I forgot and cut her head out of the picture, because I am that awesome. This review isn't about her, though, so she'll get over it.
It bunches up in the sleeves funny. I think AG tried to do a gathered sleeve, which works wonders on a geodesic tunic (which they haven't made yet for dolls AG WHAT THE HELL GET WITH THE DECADE) and comes out funky on a sweater. Really, I appreciate the extra points, but a plain sleeve would have fit better on the doll.
PS: check out Sara's hair with the teal of this sweater. It's so awesome. They must've made this thing with AG #17 in mind and then gave it to Mia when they needed something else for her collection.
The mittens require some engineering to get on, but it's not the hardest thing you'll do all day. They button onto the sweater like so. I've never seen a real life outfit like that, so part of me loves the mittens because they're so goofy and part of me is sorely confused about the mittens.
A close up of the kitting pattern, in case anyone was wondering. You can also see how it fits Sara -- it's a little snug in the chest, but otherwise not terrible. Keep in mind that Sara is an extra-hammy PM doll. And yes, it velcros in the back.
Sweater without the mittens. Actually pretty nice for this weather.
The rest of the outfit? I started to put it on Jess, but look:
One leg warmer fits SUPAR ULTRA TIGHT on her leg, the other one won't go on at all. I can only get it this far up the foot. I can't untie the little bow, either, because it's stitched on. This is a call to CS, methinks.
EDIT: I just re-read Goo's review, and his leg warmers aren't sewn. Whut? So I got mine back out and gave the pom poms some solid hard tugs, but mine are definitely sewn in and aren't budging one bit. Go figure. Maybe they started sewing them in?
So, uh, rest of the outfit minus the leg warmers.
Tada! The first thing I noticed:
It fits funny in the sleeve again when the doll's arms are up. Jess is Mattel, too, obviously. It fixes itself quite a bit when her arms are down, though:
This angle also shows us that the jersey is fitting a little snug on Jess. Which, srsly, she's Mattel, that shouldn't be happening. Also, it's a jersey. Isn't it supposed to be a little baggy?
The hat is delightful, hilarious, and it's gonna pill like no one's buisness in a few months. Do not expose to moisture ever.
I srsly did not think I would enjoy the denim skirt, but it might be my favorite part. I actually pulled it out and thought about Ivy instantly. It's a pretty neat neutral piece that would go great with a doll's t-shirt.
I don't know squat about hockey, so I'll just offer puck and stick photos. I didn't care about these items at first, but now I think they'll be great props for my doll bedroom or future albums.

I had a hard time with the leg warmers too, they were super tight on Mia's legs. The pom poms on mine were sewn on as well, so there was no loosening the tops to make it easier to get her feet through. The jersey is also really tight, I also assumed that it would be more loose fitting. But those are my only complaints with this outfit, overall I really liked it!

I like this outfit a lot overall. I got one for Marjorie (my ice skater) and I was pretty pleased with everything, except:
~The buttons/loops to attach the mittens to the sleeves of the blue shirt took me FOREVER to attach. ~The blue leg warmers are a bit of a pain to attach under skates (I wish they were actual socks) ~The stupid hockey tunic is really tight, especially on poor PM Marjorie:
Like a couple of other people, I expected it to be loose like a sports tunic. Oh well.

Grades for each piece:
Skirt: A-. The skirt is very versatile, but also a bit too short and indecent for a ten-year-old. Also VERY tight on PM girls (you can get it on, but it's a tight fit, and the velcro could pop open any time).
Sweater: B. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, but it's not the cutest piece, and it doesn't look so great without the gloves. Also, the area in the shoulder is stitched to sort of bunch up, which is really annoying.
Gloves: B. They're completely useless without the sweater, and I think both the elastic loop on the glove and the button on the sweater are prone to pop off with enough play. Also, while wearing these gloves, dolls can't raise their arms, or part of the arm is exposed.
Hat: B+. Nothing special. Looks a little dumb on a doll if you don't put it on right, but it is pretty adorable if you know what you're doing. It's a very soft material, and I am a little afraid of it pilling or getting damaged some other way.
Jersey: A+! I love the jersey. The material is just like a real jersey, and I actually like the feminine fit of it on the dolls. I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if it were looser. My one problem with it is that it says "American Girl" on it, which really takes away from the realism.
Legwarmers: C. Practically no use. If you can manage to squeeze them onto a doll's legs, I can almost guarantee you that you will decide you hate the look and tug them back off again. The bow is elastic, which isn't so great, and mine just snapped without even being played with. And the pom-poms are far too cutesy for my tastes. I think the outfit could have done perfectly fine without the leg warmers, or maybe with a pair of tights substituted.
Hockey stick and puck: A for these, too. I mostly bought the set for the hockey items. The hockey stick will fit into a doll's hand, and will stay if you position it right. I'm not sure the scaling is accurate (for the puck or the stick), and the pink and the AG logos definitely aren't, but I'm still so happy to see what is generally considered to be a male sport being brought to my dolls.

I bought this mainly for the denim miniskirt. My winter wardrobe centers around denim miniskirts in all colors, so of course my dolls had to have one.
I give the skirt an A, although I agree with Leila that it might be a bit mature for younger dolls. For a doll who is in 6th grade, I think it is fine. This skirt fits my 1995 #3 (the doll who I bought this for hasn't arrived yet) just fine, which is good news for those of us with PM dolls. I was pleased to see that you couldn't tell that the waistband was elastic.
The sweater and mittens are adorable and I love the colors. Another A. However, it is a little tight on my PM doll. I didn't have any trouble attachting the loops to the buttons.
I also got the legwarmers on just fine. A. My mom believes that you can't have the doll wear the legwarmers with the sweater, only with the hockey stuff, but I disagree and think they look very cute. Legwarmers are very trendy now, so I think they are a great addition to the wardrobe and can be worn with other skirt/tight outfits.
The hat gets an A-. I like the way it looks, but I am terrified of it pilling.
Now for the negative: I have two gripes with the outfit. One is that I have no use for the hockey stuff, since I don't have Mia and I don't plan on having any of my girls play hockey. I wish that they had been two separate sets, because now I have this stuff I'm trying to get rid of. I love the casual outfit, and think it includes great mix-and-match pieces, but I wish I had been able to buy it on its own.
I'm not going to grade the hockey stuff, because I haven't used it at all and I don't want it. The hockey puck seems like it would get lost very easily, though.
I also wish that the outift had come with tights, because I haven't located any of my tights yet and right now my doll's legs look, well, naked.
So I give the set a B overall, but an A for the casual outfit part of the set.

I bought this outfit for the hockey jersey. I'm originally from Dallas and their hockey team is the Stars. I was very disappointed. It's way too tight. Hockey jersey's are supposed to be a little loose and baggy. The skirt is also too tight and too short. The hat frizzes her hair up. I do like the hockey stick, puck and little legwarmers.
