I've always put it across the shoulder - I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way but I think it fits better this way. And for being so small it does hold a surprising amount of stuff.
This is one of my favorite JLY meet accessory sets. It's very classic and timeless. I thought the gum was a good idea to include.
