My dd just got hers for Easter and she hadn't played with the bandage yet. I unwrapped it and mine is not in shreds like yours, but I certainly can see it happening to ours. The end is not really finished off, and I ran my thumbnail over the edge and a piece was starting to fray. My end is not sewn over even glued.
I think I will add some glue to the end of mine. Having seen how they are made(not very good, IMHO) I would just trim yours and add glue to the end. You could return it, but I feel you won't get one much better and it may be more of a hassle. To be honest, when this one rips, I think I will make another with a piece of elastic.
