This item was introduced in 2008 and retired in December 2014. It was worn by Julie in the book Julie and the Eagles, and is part of her first birthday collection (which also includes her Birthday Goodies). (Julie also has a second birthday collection, which includes her Birthday Outfit and Birthday Gifts, that was available from 2020 to 2023.)
When Julie learns the eagles she’s been caring for will be set free on her birthday, she plans a party at the beach to watch the big event. Julie finds the perfect outfit for her special day: A free-flowing peasant dress with flower border, A choker necklace with wooden beads, A wide-brimmed woven paper hat with silk flowers.
(Dress Retired December 2014)
Okay, so Julie's birthday dress came today! Yay! It is a very cute dress... I love the detail of the floral design on the front of the dress, and the cut and way it sits on Julie. The necklace is also very cute and very 70's- it was a little hard to get on at first because its a choker, but once it was one there's a little spare room so its not super-tight on her. The hat is okay, its cute enough I guess, nothing special. The fake blue flower is kind of weird. The only other real problem I have with it (besides the meh hat) is that its kind of see-through (in that if Julie's wearing her purple undies they kind of show through). Still, I give it an A- over all. I recommend it, it looks veyr nice on Julie.

Julie's Birthday Dress Item# F6336 $24 (price increase to $28 January, 2012; retired December 2014) "When Julie learns the eagles she’s been caring for will be set free on her birthday, she plans a party at the beach to watch the big event. Julie finds the perfect outfit for her special day: * A free-flowing peasant dress with flower border * A choker necklace with wooden beads * A wide-brimmed woven paper hat with silk flowers" This is a wonderful, 70's type outfit that Julie gets to celebrate her birthday in. I agree with the other commenter about the thinness of the dress. She needs a slip! And it's a bit disappointing that the flower designs on the waist and hem don't go around to the back of the dress! I don't know why they couldn't have made that go around to the back. I think the hat is perfect. It's a wide brimmed, floppy hat. Perfect for her era. Just wanted to add a close up photo of her choker to the reviews: This set looks so good on Julie and it's great for a summer day. Grade A.

I ordered this outfit for my Claire.
I absolutely love the dress. Sure, it would have been btter if the flowers went all the way around. But the dress is still absolutely beautiful. One thing- I can see darker underwear showing through it. Claire is wearing the pink cami and panties- which do blend in well. I love the dress style and eyelet ruffles. I like how the colors look on dolls with warmer coloring like Julie.
The necklace was very easy to put on and works well with the dress.
The hat is a very nice extra touch. It works as a sunhat while at the same time being very stylish.
I give this outfit overall an A. Would have gotten an A+ if the flowers went all the way around.

Another great outfit. I am very picky about doll clothes and this is only the third outfit I have ordered from ag. This outfit is fantastic and will be a favorite around here for a long time - I am sure. It is pretty, durable, and the necklace is cute. A few cons (in my opinion): Does not come with shoes (hello ag...) Necklace clasp is a little fragile and I expect I will have problems with it before long Floral print does not go all the way around the dress Did I mention that it does not come with shoes?... The hat is ok - not really my style - but then, neither is much from that time period. I would have preferred a less square top to the hat but that's ok. So anyway - nevertheless I still love this dress. Here are some pictures of it on my Nicki - and I bought the casual clogs just for this dress. They are a PERFECT match and I will probably keep them together as a set. I give this set a B. Mainly because I had to spend another $10 to get shoes for it. Ag has sooooo many pink things that it's not like I had a pair of shoes sitting around that really work with this dress. If you have Julie, keep a close eye on those meet shoes cause you are gonna need them... If you like this outfit - get it. You won't be disappointed - it is sweet as pie. And if it had shoes, I would give it an A+, but as it is, I give it a B.

The hat is described on the AG website as PAPER. What the heck does that mean? Is the hat actually PAPER???
I think it is an adorable outfit but that word "PAPER" stopped me in my tracks.
Would love to hear back from people on this point.

The hat is described on the AG website as PAPER. What the heck does that mean? Is the hat actually PAPER??? Well, I really don't think it's PAPER, so I'm not sure where they got that for the description. I tried to tear it and it's not ripping, so I don't think paper is what it's made out of. It's a very floppy, flexible, synthetic straw weave. Sturdy, functional and gorgeous on Julie!

Thank you! I'm glad it's not OBVIOUSLY paper at any rate. Weird. Your eagle looks terrific with Julie. What shoes is Julie wearing in your pic?

Julie is wearing the 2006 Casual Clogs. Don't they look like they were made for this outfit?

JULIE GO HOME IT LOOKS BETTER ON IVY I could have sworn that I took a full length picture of this dress, but I can't find it. I'm sure I'll take another one some day, so whichever. It looks the same from the waist down on Julie or Ivy anyway. Overall very very nice dress. Ivy's absolutely breathtaking in it; when I put her in it for the first time, I had to just sit and stare at her for a bit. Looks great with those dark eyes. My only possible complaint is that it fits too big around the middle of my Ivy, but my Ivy is a very skinny doll so YMMV. The bodice, with pattern. Notice the real cord and real velvet sewn around the middle. Much has been made about the pattern ending at the middle of the dress, but I don't think that's that huge a deal. It's probably even historically accurate. The wood bead necklace doesn't hang like I want -- it's too long to be a choker and too short to look like a necklace -- but that's the tiniest nitpick ever with this outfit. The hem, with the gather and real cord. I wanted to show the end of the screen printing, because I feel like it's a very natural stop instead of an abrupt one. Someone thought this out.

I received this dress a few days ago and Jess decided to model it since I don't have Julie. The dress fits very well on Jess. Not too tight at all. The fabric is a very nice mid-weight cotton. It arrived quite wrinkled. I had to mist it with water before I ironed the dress. I like the pattern and the trim on the dress along with their choice of colours. The hat fits very well on Jess and the silk blue flower is a nice touch. I used the necklace in Jess' hair. I pulled some of her hair back and wrapped it around 3 times before hooking the clip together. Like AmericanGirlRescue, I paired the outfit with the Casual Clogs and they are a perfect match! I think Jess' meet sandals would also go well with the dress. I love Jess in the outfit. A+ Nia

This is such a pretty dress! I put it on my Alexandra and the brown trim goes beautifully with her reddish hair. This dress has such a seventies feel: the style of it and placement of the trim reminds me so much of a dress I had when I was about eight or nine, in the mid 70s. This is one of the very nicest outfits I have ever bought from AG. AAA+

I have all of Julies clothes and this dress is for sure a favorite, but I do prefer it without the hat.

A friend has this and I think it might be my favorite of Julie's outfits. It gives off a semi-prairie vibe with the eyelet and the border floral print. The floral print at the waist is nice as well. I really like the wooden bead necklace. Very cute!
