This outfit was worn by Ivy in the book Happy New Year, Julie. It was released in 2007 and retired in 2014.
Ivy finds this dress while shopping with Julie in Chinatown. The fitted silhouette features a beautiful brocade pattern, a mandarin collar, and side slits that make it easier to walk. Includes soft black Mary Jane shoes and a flower barrette for her hair.
I'm glad I got Ivy's New Year Outfit (shown here on Jess). The red dress looks so nice with her dark hair & the silky fabric is a good quality. Her black cloth Chinese shoes are just like some I had in the 1970's & will be very useful with other outfits. The little flower hair clip is ok but you have to position it just right so the flower shows & not the clip part. I give this outfit an overall A.

Mod note: This item was introduced in 2007 and retired in 2014.Ivy's New Year Outfit Item# F7130 $24 (price increase to $28) "Ivy finds this special red outfit for Chinese New Year while shopping with Julie in Chinatown: * A fitted dress with a beautiful brocade pattern, a mandarin collar, and side slits that make it easier for Ivy to walk * Soft, black Mary Jane shoes * A flower barrette for her hair" This is a very well made Mandarin style dress for any Chinese girl. It is thick brocade with Chinese style designs woven in the material on all sides of the dress. Here is my Lily (#4) wearing it. It is a little bit snug on her PM body, but she can wear it okay. The shoes are velvety and have a simulated buckle but a velcro closure. They are a little snug too, but I eventually got them on her. Chinese shoes The flower hair clip is very cute and stays well in her hair. flower clip - front flower clip - back I give this set a grade of A for value and quality.

Does anyone have a picture of this dress with the real Ivy wearing it? I'd love to see one! Thanks! She's wearing it here in my Lunar New Year Photo

I had a terrible time getting this dress on my Ivy. I've decided to sell it. I've got the 1996 outfit coming and that should probably fit her. After all, she is not pre-Mattel. I also have a #4 who would like to wear it.

I really like this outfit, and I'm glad I have it. It looks fantastic on the girls with darker hair, and the red is such a nice, cheery shade. My Jess is currently wearing it (even though she isn't Chinese- it just looks pretty on her), and I can't seem to take it off her. The dress fits the dolls well. My only issue is that the velcro snags the material. I get much use out of the hair clip, too, and I've found it looks good with many other outfits as well. The shoes are basic black Mary Jane flats that have a velcro strap/faux buckle. These are very versatile, and they work well as dress shoes with other dressy outfits. I've actually found that I do not like them with Ivy's New Year outfit. Instead, I like to pair the gold slippers from Elizabeth's holiday gown with this outfit instead. Overall, I'm please. I have no complaints other than the velcro.

I bought this for my PM #4 Jessa, who was adopted from China and raised in the US, shortly after AG announced Ivy's retirement. I was worried that she wouldn't fit in it. She did get into the dress with a little squeezing. The shoes were a bigger problem. They're very tight, and it took me a while to get them on. They do look nice once they're on, though. (I can't find the flower clip, so that will have to go without a review.)
I have the same concern as BeauCoeur about snagging. The brocade is lovely and silky but snags very easily - mine is already snagged in at least two places. Other than that, I also highly recommend this for Asian doll owners looking for a beautiful costume or outfit for their doll for special occasions.

I love her New Years outfit but it is NOT for little girls. It will snag so easily. I put her in this dress and she is carefully handled with it on. Her shoes are made of velvet and shouldn't leave the house or be kept out in the open as it may get dust on them. I love this outfit and red is one of Ivy's "wow" colors. When Dd goes out with her the velvet shoes stay home. *mod edit to remove dead image links*
