Lea Clark Girl of the Year 2016 $120 She comes with the Lea Dives In paperback book, plus her Brazilian festival outfit: A bright, multicolored dress, featuring an attached braided belt and braided trim on the straps Sandals with crisscrossed laces Underwear An embroidered canvas messenger bag with colorful woven straps A pretend compass necklaceI fell in love with her when I saw the AG reveal photo on their Facebook page. (I was a good girl and didn't peak at any of the early leaks ) I really like how colorful her collection is and I like her theme, I'm excited to read her story. I love her hair color and that she has a tan, she's a great addition to my collection. I have LOTS of pic of everything to share with you all! Overall I give her an A+ First here is Lea out of the box. We also had her ears pierced at the store when we bought her. That was an additional $16, which included her exclusive earring set. Her left eye looks a bit wonky in this pic but i'm not sure why, I don't notice it when I look at her. Here's a close up of her highlights. Her hair is a really unique color. I love it! She has beautiful curls as well. This is also my first doll to have no neck strings. Very strange. The only thing I do not like about this is that her head is a little hard to turn from side to side. I do not know if all the Lea dolls have the zip tie neck or just some. Here she is wearing her purse and necklace. I really liked that this came with the doll and it wasn't part of the accessory kit. The shoes are super easy to get on, the cording is elastic and they also have a Velcro slit on the back of the shoe, i'm actually not sure why you can easily get them on without opening the Velcro. Here's a close up of her earrings. And last but not least, she also comes with a pair of green undies, which my daughter for some reason was super excited about, lol.

I bought my Lea the day of her release, a first for me. I think she is lovely! I was a bit nervous about her eyebrows at first, as I saw a few dolls with slightly "angry" looking brows. I think I found a good one though. Her eye brows are perfect. Her hair is beautiful, curly and layered, a lovely caramel color with sun-kissed highlights. Her skin color is tan and works well with her other features. Her eyes are a blend of the AG green/Hazel with a touch of Caroline. I really love her messenger bag and compass that are included with the doll. In my pictures, she is also wearing her earrings, bracelet and headband, which are sold separately from the doll. A close up of her eyes: Her messenger bag: Here is a top view of her hair with headband: I think her meet outfit is ok for the most part, but matching up the stripes at the seams would have been a nice detail. Her book, compass, and bag: One thing to note, some people have found indent marks on their Lea's ankles from the rubber bands that hold her in the box. My Lea also had this on her right ankle. I don't think I will exchange her since I love her face so much, but we'll see.

Here are some comparison photos with Lea and a few other hazel-eyed dolls:
(My Cécile's Hazel is a bit darker and bluer than Lea's, so YMMV.) And next to the "new green," just in case anyone was wondering: Comp Lea and New Green by scarlett1854, on Flickr

I bought Lea's Meet dress off of cdaizybug. I love, love, LOVE this dress!!! I know most people don't like this dress, but I love obnoxiously bright/neon colors. The dress is very simple, but it looks amazing on Jess and Kanani. Kanani Lea Meet by Elizabeth, on Flickr Jess Lea Meet by Elizabeth, on Flickr This dress will get a lot of use here. SailorMolly

Lea Doll I absolutely love Lea. She is very beautiful, and brings her own unique flair to my collection. Her Meet dress is beautiful, and I was lucky enough to receive one where the patterns match up almost perfectly! The bag is cute, and I loke the necklace as well, although a) it was very hard to figure out how the knot closure worked b) I wish is was a higher quality plastic or metal. Her hair is stunning. Her skin is slightly lighter than Kanani's, but she is certainly not "white". It has a rosier hue to it. (The watch she is wearing is from her Hiking Outfit) Grade: A+ Yay! The seams match up! And it was pure luck, since I ordered her! I really do think she has a unique shade of hazel, as they have little flecks of amber and Caroline's Sea Foam green in them. Lea with the rest of my GOTY's

I personally would not rate the Lea doll as the most unique doll AG has ever offered. At a quick glance, one could mistake her for Rebecca, Kanani or Marisol. On paper, her overall coloring is that same as Kanani (light brown hair, medium skin, hazel eyes), and AG seemed to try to combine two of their more popular GOTYs (McKenna and Kanani) with Lea. Perhaps their idea was to try to take away some of the market share that seeks Kanani and McKenna by producing a similar looking doll. But who knows.
She has medium skin that is exactly the same as my custom 62, but with more pink undertones than my Kanani. Her eyes are definitely a more yellow hazel than Kanani or Maryellen, but I would not consider them a new color, just a hazel variant. The brown strands are much lighter than Kanani's or Marie-Grace's wig, and bordering on carmel, but I don't have a carmel haired doll to directly compare it to. The blonde streaks are clearly blonde. Combined, her wig gives a more dirty blonde vibe vs the clear brown of Kanani or Marie-Grace. The wig is very silky feeling, with gentle curls. It is not very thick however, and reminds me of a longer Rebecca wig in its overall consistency. This was somewhat a disappointment after getting Maryellen, who has a nice thick wig. Her eyebrows are reminiscent of the new style AG debuted with Grace, but have more of an arch. The eyebrow placement varies noticeably on the dolls.
Her meet dress is very bright and colorful. I think it will look great on a dark skinned doll. I personally do not care for how it looks on Lea. The array of stripes vary from doll to doll. The seams on my particular dress do not match up. The sandals are nicely constructed, but seem like they were meant for a different outfit, given their peach and pale blue coloring. I like the messenger bag, though closure with actual clips vs velcro would have been a plus. The necklace is cute, but nothing outstanding.
My doll did have very light marks on the outside of her legs on and her neck, but nothing that bugged me so much to return her. Overall, most Lea dolls I looked at seemed good, so quality control seemed to be stepped up.
Her books do not speak of her skin tone, but do mention that her brother's pale skin is now tanned, so I am presuming her medium skin actually is meant to represent a tan vs an actual medium skin tone. In that sense, it is disappointing that AG tried to placate the crowd wanting a doll of color by producing a doll that appears to be a doll of color to the masses, but is in fact just another white doll.
I was at the store opening weekend, so obviously a lot of girls were buying Lea. But I did see some girls buying Lea's outfits for their Kanani dolls they were holding, so clearly some kids are also noticing the similarity.
Overall, I would give the doll a B. She is very pretty overall, but for long time collectors, she is nothing unique. I even question if older girls who do remember (and may have) Kanani will consider her different enough to buy her, or may resort to just buying her items, like I saw some girls do when I was at the store. I think a new eye color or something other than hazel (amber or Caroline's eye color) could have made Lea more unique. It will be interesting to see how well Lea does and if she can continue to keep up momentum. I think the summer Olympics in Brazil may help boost her sales, but not to the extent that helped boost McKenna's sales. It will depend somewhat on both the opening ceremony and what NBC decides to focus on regarding their cultural footage of Brazil.
If you have a similar looking doll, such as Kanani, Marisol or even Rebecca, I would probably skip Lea.

My Lea has a sharpie-tinted wig, so she's customized, but as she still has all of her original parts I figured it would be okay to still post my review photos! Lea's wig is wonderful. It's great to style and has amazing wavy volume with a little styling, but still can be brushed out and braided for easy play. I like her eyebrow shape, although I do think they make her look more serious and older than the other dolls. Her hazel eyes are fine: I like them, but I think she would just as nice with brown eyes. The light highlights and lighter eyes frustrate me a little, because it feels like AG is always trying to throw "exotic" characteristics on their non-white dolls. Oh well. I think she's very pretty, and without those things she might have looked like Marisol, so I digress. http://instagram.com/p/B_JFYjyBcQV http://instagram.com/p/BYlO0VIBChd

When I first saw Lea I really didn't care for her as I found her to be rather monochromatic. A friend recently acquired her and now I think she's quite pretty. Her hair looks like a lot of fun to play with. As a historical I could see her in Josefin's world.
