This item was released in 2016 and retired in 2019.
Melody's Electric Piano
Item# DKM87 $48
This doll-sized 1960s-style electric piano features keys that really work. It has buttons where girls can choose the style of sound they want: organ, piano, or electric piano. It comes with sheet music with a special song that Melody’s brother wrote for her. Requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).
I originally was not going to get the piano on my trip for Melody's debut, but it ended up coming home with me after seeing some videos on Instagram and playing with the store display piano. Originally when we were saw pictures of it, I scoffed at the $48 price tag for a plastic piano, as I thought it was just a display piece.
However, the piano actually plays! It features three octaves and the white and black keys all work. There are also four different modes (though I cannot hear a significant difference between two) - two sound electric, one sounds like a classic piano and the last sounds like a church organ. It also has a dial to turn on the piano and adjust the volume of sound on the underside of the piano. The stands to hold the piano come separate from the piano itself in the original packaging, but they easily snap into place.
The piano does require 3 AAA batteries.
I definitely give this item an A+. It holds a lot of play value, and I am having a ton of fun with it. What I love most is that is actually plays, unlike the Truly Me instruments, which are in the $30 range. My roommate even was playing it as well, and usually avoids my doll items.
