Kit wore this outfit in the movie/DVD Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Released 2008, retired 2017.
Kit chooses this smart outfit when it’s time for school. Your American girl can help Kit get ready for class with this outfit: A floral-print blouse with a criss-cross collar; A cropped, knit sweater-jacket with contrast binding; A soft wool skirt with an attached belt; A pair of knee socks and double T-strap shoes; A matching felted hat trimmed with coral ribbon.
School Skirt Set
Grade: A
From AmericanGirl.com: Your American girl can help Kit get ready for class with this outfit:
- A floral-print blouse with a criss-cross collar - A cropped, knit sweater-jacket with contrast binding - A soft wool skirt with an attached belt - A pair of knee socks and double T-strap shoes - A matching felted hat trimmed with coral ribbon
I didn't care for the shirt; it had too big of a print, and was too busy for my liking. It was also rather stiff. I loved the sweater, although the pink trim may prevent it from being used with many other outfits. The skirt felt vaguely linen-y to me, and definitely seems a bit too adult, but perhaps it was supposed to be a hand-me-down for Kit?
The socks have pink trim at the top, which seems excessive since you can't see them with the skirt. I loved the shoes, though, and the hat was a heavy felt with ribbon around it.

Given all the pieces in the set, this is well worth the price tag. It's a very cute outfit! It's a bit pink and fancy for Kit, but that doesn't change how awesome this set is! I joked with my roommate that if someone made this outfit for adults, I'd buy and wear it despite my hatred of pink. All the pieces seem to be very well-made. The skirt is much lighter than Addy's school skirt or Kirsten's winter outfit skirt, but it does not seem cheaply made. I think all the pieces would hold up pretty well to play. If you put the shirt and skirt together just by themselves, it actually reminds me of some women's fashions in the 1970s. My grade: A+, for value, cuteness, and mix-and-match potential Here's some pictures of Marisol modeling it:

I love, love LOVE this set! It is so worth the money (and then some). Here, I have #29 modeling it as a modern outfit with her Meet shoes. I especially love the shirt. It looks like a secretary shirt The hat, I'm not so fond of.. it isn't very well made, but I don't plan on using the hat. The little brown shoes it comes with are very cute and well made, but again, not my style. The jacket and skirt are both wool-feeling and nicely done. A+! mod edit to remove broken image links

This is a beautiful outfit, and the pieces are ideal for mix-n-match. I put the little crocheted sweater over top all of Kit's outfits in the winter time! The shirt probably would look stunning under her overalls! Kit wore this in the movie at Thanksgiving, near the end. It is quite beautiful, but doesn't look like something she would wear to school. The socks I put with everything! Especially put them with her nightie because her bare little legs seem cold at night without them. The colors are close to Kit's nightie, so you can use the ribbon from her Nightie for this outfit instead of that goofy hat. The hat doesn't do me justice. I don't like static and her hair surely sticks up after taking that puppy off. The shoes go with anything, and are beautiful. They have Velcro closures, and can get caught, so Velcro them closed before putting them away with other clothes and shoes. My shoes got caught on her socks the other day and they started to fray.
Sorry that this review is kind of choppy and all over the place. Shirt - Beautiful, can be put with overalls, knickers, and other outfits. A+ Skirt - Solid pinks with a belt that can't be removed. Elastic to fit any doll, including PM dolls. A+ Jacket - Can overlap many of Kit's outfits, turning them from Summer to Winter. A+ Socks - Go with really anything, though they have a pink edge at the top. A+ Hat - Static! Can get snagged easily. Not my favorite. D+ Shoes - Brown, and can go with anything! Adorable! A+

This has to be the best new AG historical outfit, one of our absolute favorites for Kit. She looks so nice in pink, no wonder her mother's all over her about it! This outfit is really great for a fall outfit, and is historically accurate as you can see in these pictures. The blouse - made of crisp, stiff fabric like Kirsten's school dress, the coloring is wonderful on Kit. The material is warm brown with large, bold flowers in pink and white. The collar is so Art Deco, I love it, and the button detail is excellent if not functional. I hadn't thought about the shirt under her overalls, I bet that's cute. It certainly looks nice with this set. A+The skirt - The skirt seems to be made of real wool, it is so thick and soft and quality! The color is a very warm salmon tone that matches the pink in the rest of the outfit. Unlike most pieces, it doesn't velcro but pulls up easily with elastic in the back. The belt is fake but the buckle is so nice, it seems like metal. A+The cardigan - the cardigan is a little iffy, because it stretches out of shape and seems slightly thinner than the other pieces. But it looks nice, knit from a tweedy taupe yarn and edged in pink. A-The hat - come on people, the hat is darling! I love Kit in hats and this one seems so classic 30's. It is made from sturdy off-white felt, but I would avoid stepping on it, of course. The ribbon is grosgrain, permanently stitched around the hat with pink thread that can be seen on the underside. The only problem with the hat is that the edges are squared, as if it's been cut with scissors. Otherwise, A+. The socks - these are different than Kit's school socks, ribbed with a little scalloped top in pink. They are sturdy and stretchy, reaching past Kit's knees. As they are off-white, they won't match other outfits too well. BThe shoes - now honestly, I doubt Kit would have as many pairs of shoes and slippers as her collection boasts now, and if she did I think she'd give them to the hoboes. But I am glad AG is giving you a little more for your money. These are reddish-brown pleather t-straps, with "metal" buckles that velcro. Very cute with the outfit, A. Here are some photos of the outfit on...Kit, actually.

I purchased this outfit recently, and overall I really like it. The hat is completely adorable, and I like the skirt, socks, and sweater a great deal. I wasn't sure I was going to like the shirt (reminded me of the '70s too much) but it looks really cute with the whole ensemble. My one complaint is the shoes. I have an older Kit (maybe slightly larger feet?) and I had to tug and pull a great deal in order to get the shoes on her feet over her socks. I haven't heard anyone else say this about the shoes, so maybe I got a defective pair? I think they are adorable in style, but I wish it wasn't so hard to get them on. The socks pooch out funny above the shoes since the shoes are so tight. :/ Overall, I give the outfit a B for overall goodness, but difficult shoes.

Edited to clear up confusion about my Kit's foot size.

I just received this outfit for Christmas, 2009 and the blouse is very flimsy and cheaply made. the inside stitching is surged, not regular stitching and looks very sloppy. The fabric feels flimsy and cheap. I have read the other reviews. I guess AG got another manufacturer and they have done a crappy, cheap job on the blouse. The rest of the outfit is not bad.

I agree with all of the other reviews, except I don't like the skirt. I think the length is too long - I would have preferred it a little shorter. Otherwise it's a great outfit, and you get a lot for your $$. Overall, it get's an A-! I just can't get over the length of the skirt. D~

I think this outfit is wonderful and worth the price. The outfit looks great on a variety of AG dolls. I give it an A+.

Great outfit! I personally love the hat! The fabric is a little odd... but it fits perfectly on short haired dolls. In case people didn't know, the bow goes on the side. It looks beautiful on my Annie, and I think it's worth every penny!

I. LOVE. This. Outfit. I think it may be my favorite AG outfit...definitely my favorite 20th century historical outfit. & Kit looks gorgeous in it! I am especially in love with the hat. I want that hat for myself! I was a little nervous about how AG would do a cloche, but this hat is just stunning. It holds its shape beautifully. I love everything else about the outfit too. The blouse is elegant, especially with the sweater, the skirt is thick & is the perfect demure length but still allows the pink edging on the tops of the socks to peep out...
The one thing I do not love is the shoes. They're adorable, don't get me wrong, but I had the worst time getting them on Kit's feet. I don't have an older Kit. I got my Kit from AG last summer (2010). Unless I got some old Bigfoot Kit that had been laying around the warehouse for the last ten years, I don't know why I had such a hard time with the shoes. It took me literally about half an hour to squeeze Kit's feet into them. & I am an adult woman! I can't imagine a seven-year-old struggling with the same task. Kit looked great once her shoes were on, but I am actually concerned that she's going to have to be re-strung soon because I twisted her legs around so much trying to get her shoes on. I kept thinking, "Dear God, what if this was an actual human baby I was trying to shod?" & then I felt bad.
So, A+++ for the outfit, & C for the shoes.

Next to Kit's Reporter outfit this one of my favorites. I really like that fact that you get so many pieces in the set. I am on my second pair of brown shoes. My son decided to share one of the shoes with my dog and the dog proceeded to shred it. Within minutes of finding the ruined shoe I was on the phone ordering a replacement part. This outfit is adorable! I think it looks great on all my dolls. I really like the color of the skirt, and the sweater and the shirt look nice together. The hat is a nice touch. The shoes and the socks aren't my favorites, but they go well with the rest of the outfit.

This is my personal favourite historical outfit. I love how it comes with so many pieces, which have many mix and match possibilities! I love how the skirt is made of real wool, and that the hat is made of felt. The sandals are just darling. The buckle is non-functional, but the velcro closure is very discreet. The belt buckle feels as though it is made of metal, or a really strong plastic. The pink trim around the blouse sleeve openings is the same pink wool that the skirt is made of. The knee-high socks are very thick and are ribbed. The pink trim at the opening of the socks will not stain your doll, which was something I was a bit worried about prior to buying this outfit. The cardigan is also made of real wool and keeps a doll nice and warm on cold days. This is exceptionally well made. I'll give it an A+!

I only purchased the shoes from this set from eBay, but I absolutely love them. the design is so classic. My daughter had similar pairs in navy and white in the 1990s. The brown color goes with everything.
