Holiday Baking Set $44 Grade: A This set includes: three recipe cards- heavy cardstock two measuring cups- metal flour sifter- metal with plastic handle sugar box & flour box- heavy cardstock can of baking powder- metal rolling pin- wood with metal handles two cookie cutters- star and round shaped made of metal with plastic handles tablecloth- screen printed festive print cookie platter- heavy gold metal candle- rubber material candle holder-plastic cookies- molded plastic Every item in this set is to scale and well-made. The metal items had a nice weight to them- especially the shiny gold platter. wooden rolling pin- very authentic looking The sifter handle actually turns! This was my favorite piece in this set. I was so glad to see it made from metal and not from plastic. The sprigs of pine don't fool me- but they do look festive. The candle is rubber- a little odd. The boxes aren't too flimsy and the can of baking powder really surprised me. I was certainly not expecting it to be made of metal. These two little metal cookie cutters- oh my!- could they be any cuter?? They are the perfect size for the dolls' hands. The gold tray is quite heavy for it's size and has a brilliant gleam that would be perfect for any holiday event. Three little recipe cards- Holiday Nut Roll, Sugar & Spice and Thumbprint Jelly cookies. I think I may try one of the recipes! Cookies- molded plastic- I wish they would have a least separated the two different kinds. The round tablecloth is screen printed with the holly and ivy. Overall the set is fabulous and worth the $44 price tag.

I just got this and love it, too. Nice heavy weight and made of materials other than plastic. The handle on one cookie cutter was loose so I tightened it before it could get lost. The only downside is the sifter handle turns but the bottom is solid metal with no screen so it's not a working sifter.

I finally received my back ordered Kit's Holiday Baking Set. Hmmmmm, I am very disappointed. I have always been thrilled with the attention to detail that AG has had, but they really missed the boat on this one. The flour sifter has a solid bottom, no wire whisk inside or mesh at the bottom. And the flour... a box!! What happened to flour in a bag? My grandmother made dresses from those also. It just seems that the boxes were short cuts. On a positive note I love the cookie cutters and rolling pin, only wishing the handles were of wood. There was a time in AG history that they would have been as an example the wooden handles on the waffle iron set. Just lamenting a bygone time for AG.

I was disappointed in the sifter too. In my antiques business, over the years, I've seen toy flour sifters almost as small as Kit's that actually worked. I suppose it's not reasonable to expect AG to make one like that but still........

The flour sifter was the only thing I was disappointed about in Kit's Baking Set but the color of it (love the retro colors in Kit's collection) almost made up for it.
OK, I was also disappointed about the cookies being one big blob instead of individual cookies but I get why they did that AND we've already debated that topic ad nauseum.
Overall, I love the set, though. The rolling pin and cookie cutters are almost worth the price of admission all by themselves.

My sister noticed this: Why does this set have self-rising flour AND baking powder? If Kit were really using these ingredients to bake cookies, she would use either one or the other but not both in the same recipe.

If Kit were really using these ingredients to bake cookies, she would use either one or the other but not both in the same recipe. She's totally right!!! I never even considered that. Great catch. I personally love Kit's baking set. I was pleasantly surprised that many of the materials that I half expected would be plastic- were not plastic at all- but metal. Made the price tag easier to accept. The sifter- while it is not functional- it certainly is heavy and sturdy. I have the sifter from the Sweet Treats Bakery case and it is most definitely plastic and not nearly as nice. While I do agree that not all of the pieces are exactly as I would have designed them- I think overall the set offers a lot of play value. I hope it is a precursor to more sets made with less plastic pieces and parts.

This set was my Christmas present from my husband, and I am completely besotted. I'm a baker, so I love these items in miniature anyway, but I am very impressed with the quality of this set. It really seems like the quality of the older accessory pieces, with the extensive use of metal and the attention to detail. The measuring cups are marked with 1/2 and 1/4 cup increments. I do wish that the sifter had holes in the bottom, though I do like that the handle turns. It would be nice if the cookies were separate, but they look lovely when on the platter. I have added the recipe cards to the waffle recipes from Kit's waffle set, and this baking set looks great displayed with the waffle iron. I think there is a lot of playability with this set, and the metal makes it very durable. I believe the set is well worth the money given all of the pieces and the quality. I give it a strong A!

I just purchased the baking powder can as a replacement part. I am thrilled with the quality and weight of the piece. A can made out of metal- awesome!! (Take that, Lamie's camper, and all those plastic bits therein.) The baking powder can is not empty and hollow feeling either; it feels like a can full o' stuff.

I bought this set back in March for Molly to use. This is one of those items that I would have been really upset over not buying before it retires! Everything in it is very cute and seems well made. The only things I would change are to unclump the cookies (grr!) and add a mixing bowl and spoon because how are ya gonna make cookies without those two things? Great other than that and at Christmas I will make the cookies for sure! I love baking so this set is so appealing. It seems like it could work for any time period from Samantha all the way through the present. I have Kit's glassware set too but not her party treats (which are now retired). I'm going to make a cake roll out of Sculpey and actually think the cake would look fine on the gold platter when combined with the glassware because the snowflakes look potentially kind of flowery and it seems like a decent number of old fashioned dishes have snowflakes on them even if not used solely for Christmas dishes.
My grade: B++ Knocked the grade down a bit because of clumped cookies and lack of mixing bowl and spoon when considering the price. Definitely worth buying though if you like to bake!
