This outfit was released in 2008 and retired later that year with the first archival of Samantha's collection.
Samantha can’t wait to wear this fine dress when Uncle Gard comes to visit during the holidays. It features a wide scalloped collar, satin trim, and delicate lace at the yoke and sleeves. Samantha wears a fancy ribbon headband in her dark curls for a festive look.
I just got it because I returned her spring dress, which yellowed. I think it's lovely. The color is fabulous on her and the hair dodad is very pretty on her, too. It is an older style (meaning older girl, not older in time), I think, and makes her look a little more mature. The quality seems very very good. It takes a couple of days to hang out as the "petals" of velvet under the lace neckline kind of stick up a little when you first get them. I'm pleased with it.

My sis recently recieved it as a b-day present. It is much nicer than AG's photos make it look. It is a beautiful color, and the fabric is nice. However, I still can't get the petals to stay down! I am really pleased with it. I will post pics of it eventually.

Samantha's Velvet Dress Item# F8465 $24 "Samantha can’t wait to wear this fine dress when Uncle Gard comes to visit during the holidays. It features a wide scalloped collar, satin trim, and delicate lace at the yoke and sleeves. Samantha wears a fancy ribbon headband in her dark curls for a festive look." Okay, absolutely the hardest dress to photograph! Every photo was coming out looking blue. This dress is NOT blue, it's purple. My personal opinion is that this is the prettiest dress that Samantha has ever had. The velvet is very thick. The collar edging, waist and the stripes near the bottom of the dress are satiny. The lace in the yoke area of the dress is a cream color and matches the lace on the edges of the sleeves and the stretchy hair band. The back closes with velcro and there is elastic at the wrists. I think the outfit should have come with some shoes, but it's still very elegant and gets an A from me.

B:
I don’t know how I feel about this dress. There are many that I like better, but it’s much nicer than some. This outfit is very different from Samantha’s other dresses. I like that it’s unique. It also seems to be cut larger than many of the newer Samantha/AG outfits. My WB and PM tan bodied Samanthas had no difficulty fitting into the dress. Unfortunately, this dress cannot be worn with her undergarments. As a result, I worry that the dress will stain Samantha’s cloth body.
AGRescue is right; this has to be the most difficult outfit to accurately photograph. The dress looks purple under some types of light and blue under others. The color of the dress has the same intensity as a blue Lindt chocolate, but is more purplish. It’s definitely in the violet family. The color is quite bright and I would have preferred a more muted tone. However, I’m sure others will really like it.
The fabric is thick, but is still rather cheap feeling. It doesn’t feel at all like Molly’s velvet Christmas dress. I wouldn’t describe the pile as soft and thick. The fabric is stiff and the pile is fairly thin. It seems like it would wear easily. Already, the dresses I ordered all had a couple thinner spots. So, I question whether they’ll hold up well to play.
The lace appears to be identical to the lace on Samantha’s Talent Show Dress. I really like that the lace goes all the way around the dress. It makes the dress look a little richer and more realistic. I was curious to see how the lace portion would look on a WB doll. It gives a different effect, but is still nice. The only thing is that the doll’s beige shoulder joints also show through the lace. It’s not very noticeable unless you look closely.
I was a little disappointed that the dress doesn’t have snag-free Velcro. The regular Velcro could easily snag the lace and doll hair. I haven’t tried the headband yet, so I cannot comment on it.

I received this dress today and give it an A-, so far.
As far as the color of the dress- in photos it is blue. In the sunlight it is a dark bluish-purple. In lamplight it is dark rich purple.
The dress was rather difficult to get onto the arms. The opening in the back doesn't seem quite long enough.
The dress falls right below the knee. On this point I echo the earlier post- because it is longer than some of Samantha's other dresses it looks like the outfit of an older girl. The hairband also makes it look more sophisticated.
Overall, the dress fits the body very well and I had a slip on underneath the dress to make it look fuller on the bottom. I think the dress would hold up to play, however the velcro is vicious to delicate fabrics and the doll's hair. I also have the fear that the color of the dress is so saturated that it may stain the body or vinyl of a doll. But I am too chicken to leave it on a doll long enough to really test that issue.
In addition, for $24.00 I would have liked to have some matching shoes with this dress.

I just purchased this dress from a fellow member for my Rebecca. I am quite pleased with it overall. The cut, length, and fit are very like Rebecca's Summer Dress. The dress came to me in its' original box, which is Lilliputian in scale! The dress' pseudo velvet and somewhat stiff fabric is crumpled from being crammed into something about the appropriate size for a pair of AG shoes and the scallops around the neckline will need to be coaxed to lie correctly because it is packaged so scantily.

I don't have Samantha wearing the dress, but I do have a picture of my Ava-Grace 49 wearing it. I love the dress. It is beautiful.

I love the velvet dress it looks beautiful on pretty much any doll. But I must say that I especially love it on Nellie. It really brings out the color of her eyes.

I love this on Samantha. Samantha hasn't let any of the others girls wear it.

My Samantha is still in that dress - it looks so turn of the century and is gorgeous. I think it looks great with her winter coat as well. very pretty and am so glad I have it.

It's not one of my favorites, and I don't feel it looks all that great on Samantha. It looks infinitely better on Nellie, but I, personally, still wouldn't pay more than the original retail price for it.

The one that got away! Samantha's velvet dress is made from heavy velvet and closes in back with a long strip of Velcro. It fits white bodied Samantha just fine. The color is beautiful- a purple blue more than blue blue as catalog photos showed. It is meant to pair with Samantha's holiday coat but would also go well with Rebecca's newest coat. It's a similar shade of blueish/purple. The style is not very accurate for a child at that time. Children's dresses were made from cottons, twilled wools and corded silks. I've never seen a dressmaking pattern suggest velvet. Still, I wish I could have gotten my hands on it! It looks pretty on Samantha and would also look pretty on Ruthie.
