My Sonali's body *looks* orangey at first glance, until you see the exact same body color on a doll who's skin it actually matches, and then it doesn't look "orangey" so much as "too light". But it still comes off to me as "orangey" without a reference doll. Her body color is an exact match with Candace, my recently purchased 2008-tagged #26 (I pantsed them and compared butts side by side), and looks the same as Marisol's as well, though Sonali's skin is, of course, much darker than either of those two other dolls.
She'd look a lot less strange if they used the same color fabric as on Addy instead, since their skin's a closer match. Rollsinsnow's Sonali may or may not have the exact same body color as mine, I can't tell from a photo, but based on my Sonali, the answer to the "orangey" question is both "yes" and "no" at the same time. Neither Candace nor Marisol come off as "orangey" to me, so it's relative. But they should be labelling Sonali as "dark skinned" and sticking her on that line to get her body fabric, she'll look even nicer in a bikini that way. I do like that bikini on her, though, is that AG or another brand?
Just for reference, who's body color does Kaya match? The dark skinned dolls or the medium skinned ones? Since there seems to be a lot of variations in her skin tone...

I'm so pleased with my Sonali. She has the most gorgeous hair, big brown eyes, and a very unique face mold. When you spritz her hair and then brush it, it comes back with the curls. You can also finger curl it. just like what seejoansew did with Nicki's hair. Sonali looks good in most clothes and has a beautiful skin tone. She does have an undeveloped ear but it doesn't bother me that much. She also looks good in ponytails. If your thinking about getting her you should! Her meet outfit is cute. the pants are a little hard to get on her and it does the same with other dolls. The flats are really cute and easy to get on. Her green shirt goes great with jeans and skirts. Her little blue vest is super adorable and has real buttons instead of the Velcro. I'm always afraid of it snapping. She is a tiny bit over stuffed but it's not as bad as I thought. Overall I love the outfit she came in and I love her so much! I give this little Darling a A+.

Sonali is a wonderful doll! Her hair and face are absolutely gorgeous. However, my QVC Sonali is one of those who have an orange body. At first it kind of bothered me, but I didn't want to send her back and risk not liking the new one's face as much. I can cover her tummy up, but it wouldn't do to not like her face. My girl's hair is super soft and silky and holds curl well after brushing. She looks especially great in green, and I shudder to say, Barbie pink. I like her tee and capris a lot, but the sweater is already raveled. I've only changed her once. I put the sweater piece up to keep, but I don't think it will go back on the doll. In theory, very cute, but not the best quality. The shoes are okay. They don't match many other things I have for my dolls, but look great with her outfit and are fairly nice quality. They slip on pretty easily. Sonali herself: A (would be A+ but her tummy is orange) Meet outfit: B+ (for the ravel and the flowers on the pants that make for less mix and match) ETA: Pics! I decided to show some pics of Sonali in different outfits instead of her meet outfit. (orange tummy!)

DD just recieved Sonali today...she is totally happy with her! She is a very pretty doll. Her hair was in a hair net and when taken out seemed like a big mess..but we put it in a pony and she looks much nicer.

I got my Sonali today. I think she is beautiful!
Sonali...
Here is a comparison shot with Addy and modern Kaya. Kaya's skin tone is warmer and lighter than Sonali's bu I don't think I was able to capture this in the picture.

Sonali is everything I could've ever wanted. I ordered her straight from AG on January 29th, 2010 and she arrived on February 5th, 2010. I love her to pieces. Her hair is beautiful; it is a rich dark brown, with different highlights and the perfect curls. Her face also has so much expression, she also looks so sweet and happy! I also love her warm skin tone. She is truly stunning. And, she has instantly become my favorite. What can I say, I love Sonali Matthews!! Her meet outfit is adorable as well. The color combination works for her, and the cute capris have a nice green flower embroidery. The flats are very cute. And, I prefer the buttons over the velcro, so I'm glad they used them on the tank that goes over the green t-shirt. I'm scared to put outfits with velcro on her, in fear of it yanking her hair! I'd HATE to ruin those lucious curls. Alright, enough of me blabbing. Let's let the pictures do the talking! A definite A+++++ girly!! And to answer some of your questions, she does not have an orange tummy! Not at all!! And she doesn't look like a chipmunk! Why would you think that?

Question. Is her hair textured like Josefina's and Addy's? Or does it have a similiar texture to Jess or Samantha?

No, it isn't textured at all. I don't have Jess or Samantha, but I can say that Sonali's hair actually has a very fine texture to it. I also think it is really smooth and soft.

Well, I have nothing to add to the reviews here, but since I just got done taking some pictures of my Sonali, I thought I'd put them up here. For anyone who is undecided about Sonali, this is a truly gorgeous and unique doll!

I've had my Sonali about a year now and love her. Gave away her meet outfit though; I didn't like those colours on her. Here she is in lavender:

Sonali is such a gorgeous doll, with an equally adorable meet outfit. I adore her face mold (despite the mentioned ear deformity) and love her silky hair. Her huge brown eyes make her very inviting and friendly looking. Her hair is very easy to take care of. It is not as curly as a curly haired doll, yet not straight. It has the perfect amount of wave. Overall Grade: A+

Sonali comes with a perfect hairstyle. Here's my own Sonali, after a year of multiple tumbles! Her hair's not perfect at this point, but it's still lookin' good!

I was so excited when I learned that AMG had finally made an Indian doll! Her skin color is just so different than any of the other dark-skinned dolls, and her hair is so long and silky! I adore her, I much prefer she and Gwen to Chrissa who just didn't make the cut with me. I received Sonali as a 17th birthday gift from my little brother who still cant comprehend my continued obsession with these dolls. None the less I appreciated the gesture. She looks so cute in the different shades of blue and green and I love the concept of her wearing a pull over top as it truly is a modern type of clothing. Grade: A

Sonali is only in fourth grade in the Chrissa books. It would be unusual for someone her age to wear a sari. However, my Sonali dolls do share a Salwar Kameez that my daughter was given as a baby. I know I’ve posted the same picture many times, but here it is again.

I didn't keep Sonali long enough to make her a sari. But she looked great in the Grecian princess costume. The other girls are wearing Disney Princess Jasmine outfits. I tried this on Sonali because Alexander the Great left some influence behind when he marched through India, so at least in my mind there was a tenuous connection.

projectdollrunway.blogspot.com/Yep, that's my Sonali in a lengha choli I did a ton of research to figure out what traditional clothing Sonali would actually wear. As she wouldn't have worn a sari, I decided to go with the lengha choli in stead of the salwar kameez just because I didn't want to make pants! My version is made out of silk and is hand beaded - it's one of my favorite doll outfits out of all the ones I've made.

I just noticed there seems to be a brown discoloring on Sonali's shoes, like the paint is peeling away. This is happening on those bow type thing that are a lighter blue, the rest of the shoes are fine. I'll post pictures as soon as I find my camera.
Has anyone else had this happen?

I got my Sonali used on ebay but she is still soooo gorgeous. Her hair is thick and perfect to style. You can really do anything with it: brush it, curl it, put up, in braids and she looks great no matter what! Her face is so stunning. I don't seem to notice that her body is orange. And yes, her meet shoes are sort of showing some wear and tear but they're not disintegrating like some old AG shoes and boots.

Sonali is an absolutely beautiful doll, and I can't believe I didn't review her back when I got her! I don't have much to add to what's already been said. Eleven years later, my Sonali, Martha, still has soft hair, tight limbs, and almost no flaws. I did pierce her ears on my own when I was a teenager, and I drew a tattoo on her arm in eyeliner to make her match the character on TV (I suspect as a kid I had no idea she'd one day be so sought after lol - but that's fine, as I have no intention of selling her any time soon) http://instagram.com/p/CAisbZ9MsJb Here she is with her hair down and in more kid-style clothes: http://instagram.com/p/CBJWVH9snQx With Gabriela (she does have a cooler, darker skin tone than Gabriela, but that's probably down to the vinyl batch): http://instagram.com/p/CBn_NHWsJkP She's wearing her hair in a ponytail here; if you click through you can see her curls: http://instagram.com/p/CE5JeDPs8Ba
