Ruthie wore this dress in the movie/DVD Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Released in 2008, retired 2014.
She arrives in a floral dress with puffed sleeves, bloomers, black shoes, socks, a hairbow, and the Really Truly Ruthie paperback book.
I received the dress, shoes, and hair ribbon today, thanks to a member who didn't want them.
My reactions:
1) Wow, that really is a LOT more pink-toned than I expected.
2) Wait, it velcros up the back? Lame!
3) Oh man, these shoes are absolutely adorable!
The fabric is rather thin, but it seems to me that it's a spring/summer dress, so I'm not bothered. It's a cotton and it looks like it's meant to be feedsack, so it works for me. I really am dismayed that it doesn't button up the front with all those buttons. I'm not surprised, I suppose, but I would have liked that detail.
And, yeah, the color less purple and more pink than I expected. The blue lace on the collar doesn't help much - I think it would be better in white, but I like that little touch. And the purple trim is a pretty shade. Overall, it's still a very pretty little dress and I like it on Marelise, who I wanted it for (Beatrice wears Kit's meet outfit, so it works out perfectly!).
It seems to fit a bit smaller than other historical outfits, so I wouldn't advise getting it for a PM doll to wear. The sleeves might be too tight, and the waist will probably be too tight.
The shoes, like I mentioned, really are adorable. They're what I expected Molly's shoes & socks set shoes to be like, only without the heel, until I read all the descriptions in the reviews here. I have had absolutely no trouble with Marelise standing in them - I set her up once, she's been standing ever since - but it might be because I've had practice balancing the dolls on awkward surfaces (like standing crooked on the skateboard ). The strap across the ankle seems awfully tight, though, like it'd be troublesome to get on with socks underneath. Definitely not something a PM foot could wear.
The ribbon is lackluster and grosgrain and exactly like what you can buy at any craft store. I have several spools that width in different colors. It's actually kind of short for me to do a proper bow with, so I'll probably end up knotting it at the nape of the dolls' necks if I use it much.
