Addys' meet accessories include a straw bonnet with a blue fabric trim and tie, a real cowrie shell necklace on an adjustable leather cord, a water gourd, a fabric square to bundle everything up in, and a half dime coin. My Addy's gourd is plastic due to a gourd crop failure in the early 90's that required AG to switch from real gourds to plastic gourds (urban myth?) The plastic brown stopper in the gourd came with an accessory lot I purchased last year. My Addy's gourd did not come with one.

Like almost all AG products that have been around for more than a decade, Addy’s shell necklace has changed over the years. For many years, the necklace did have a real shell. As a result, the size and color weren’t always consistent.

I'm pretty darn sure mine is a real shell. If it isn't it certainly looks exactly like one. (I think it's real!) I got Addy 2 years ago for Christmas. It has a dark brown cord that kind of looks like leather. Addy wears her necklace all the time. I like it a lot.

I haven't seen a picture of the original "real" gourd for Addy anywhere here so this is mine: I really like that it is obviously the real thing. The inside of the neck shows where it was scraped out, and the outside is imperfectly polished, but that makes it look authentic. Bottom view: On the con side, it is incredibly light. I'll bet it weighs less than 1/2 ounce, and it feels like you could crush it without trying too hard. Maybe that's another reason they switched to plastic gourds. I'm not clear on whether the plastic gourds ever came with stoppers. I think I remember that the original paperwork suggested using a bit of cloth or a clump of grass as a stopper--just as Addy might have done.

I got the accessories with my Addy for Christmas 1998. My gourd is not real, but it feels pretty convincing. It didn't come with a stopper. The shell necklace is real... Addy has worn it nearly straight through since she came to me. The kerchief is very pretty, but it doesn't get much use. The half dime is wonderful... it actually plays a big role in her stories so it's nice to have. And the thing that gets the most use (aide from the necklace) is the straw bonnet. It's so pretty and looks lovely with a lot of her outfits, especially the school suit and her flower picking set. Great purchase! Solid A!

Some pictures of her kerchief My water gourd is plastic (1995). They stopped sending the real ones because of a crop failure or something of the sort and switched to plastic. The stopper in mine is also plastic.
