This bike is a good solid metal piece with plastic accessories. The pedals have elastic straps to keep the dolls feet in place and a high back seat support so the doll doesn't fall down. It has plastic straps on the handle bars for the doll to slide her hands into. The kickstand is fixed (doesn't move up and down) but it does have wheels on it so the bike rolls freely. So, everything rolls.
The chain is stationary. The pedals can move but they are not connected to anything, though they appear to be. I think this makes it possible for the bike to move along with out the pedals moving and disturbing your dolls position on the bike. The basket is removable. The wheel inserts are also removable. The package also comes with a piece of paper stating why children didn't wear bike helmets in the 70's but that you should.
This bike is stunning in person, identical to bikes most of us had in the 70's and 80's. The details are whimsical. I would probably buy another one if it went on sale. Though the price is a little high, it's a solid metal piece and a joy to have! Right now, it is on display in my room, but I can see my kids playing with this a lot.
This item did not get an A+ because of the price tag. Otherwise, perfect!
