Circle of Friends was a live stage show that ran in the Chicago store from 2001 to 2005, and in the New York store where it closed in 2008. The CD is the recording from the show. The show was very well done, and really enjoyable.
The story is about a group of girls who are a part of an American Girl's club, and who are holding a surprise birthday party for a friend. There is a misunderstanding between the friends, but eventually everything is worked out. The girls in the club act out stories of the historical girls to show how they resolve their issues, and remain friends.
The tracks on the CD are:
1. Overture
2. Birthday Party/Perfect-sung by the girls in the AG club giving the party.
3. My Father's Not a Traitor-Felicity, on being mad at Elizabeth for not standing up to her sister Annabelle.
4. Can't We Still Be Friends?- Felicity and Elizabeth resolving their differences.
5. Is There Room in the Heart for Two-Josefina coming to terms with her mother's death, and her aunt coming into her life and changing things.
6. Circle of Friends-Kirsten talking to her friends after she was away from school to help at home.
7. Look Inside-Sung by Addy's teacher, Miss Dunn. The song talks about finding and keeping a true friend-i.e. the Addy, Sarah and Harriet triangle in the "Addy Learns a Lesson" book.
8. Nellie's Shoes-Samantha thinking about Nellie's life.
9. Movie Music-instrumental-a prelude to Kit's story.
10. Flying Solo-Kit initially singing about her admiration for Amelia Earhart. Later, the song talks about the misunderstanding between Kit and Ruthie.
11. The Care and Keeping of Friends-the AG club resolving their differences.
12. Back Together Jitterbug
13. Finale:Circle of Friends-At the actual show the audience was invited to stand and sing the song with the cast.
In the show, there was a song for Kaya as well, but it sadly is not on the CD. That's too bad because if I remember correctly, it was a touching number.
It is pretty easy to follow the storyline of the show from the CD. I bought the CD for my daughter after we saw the show. The songs are enjoyable, especially if you love the historicals. It is my daughter's favorite CD.
