Kaya's Foods was introduced in 2002 and underwent some revisions before being retired in 2016, and then returning in 2019.
Help Kaya gather huckleberries and camas roots in her woven basket—cover it with huckleberry branches to keep all her food safe inside. Later, she can lay everything on a tule mat to dry: her berries, some salmon, and a bowl of mashed camas to make into finger cakes.
After a day of trading with other tribes, Kaya and the Nez Perce sit down to feast. This set includes:
A real woven cornhusk basket with decorative woven shoulder strap for carrying food
A thatched tule mat made of wooden reeds to place the food on
A faux etched-horn bowl for serving
A bunch of camas roots, a staple for the Nez Perce people, that could be baked and then mashed or ground into meal to make dough for cakes
A handful of dark blue huckleberries, a food that Kaya loves to snack on and could be eaten fresh or dried
Three strips of dried salmon, a tasty treat that Kaya helped to clean, cut, and dry
A mashed camas root
Four delicious fingers cakes made of ground camas roots
A set of huckleberry branches to cover the food in the basket
Kaya's food is one of the best accessories AG makes. It comes with a basket which Kaya can carry by a woven strap; "leaves" which are tucked into the basket; dried salmon; finger cakes,; huckleberies; a "horn" bowl and a tule mat. There are a few huckleberries which are loose and magnetic to avoid losing them. The rest are in a plasticy looking lump which can not be taken apart. The food and the leaves and bowl are all plastic but the food looks authentic as far as I can tell and the set has a lot of play value. This set was a huge hit with a small girl who loved the playability of the magnetic berries and separate salmon pieces. We kept this set away from her baby brother and no one choked on the small pieces. Grade: A+
*Warning* a friend has had the strap break on her basket twice and AG doesn't sell the basket as a replacement part.
Alice 1 enjoyed a picnic with Kaya and Alice's pet snake. (I let the 6 year old set up the scene without limiting her to historical accuracy. )
