Introduced in 1998 for $24, retired in 2007. Associated with Changes for Josefina.Josefina loved the cheerful bustle of the cocina, the kitchen. Help her grind corn with the mano and metate, or grinding stones. Fill her jar with water and set if on the braided ring. Use the gourd dipper to offer Josefina a cool drink. The chiles in the coiled basket and the stick strung with dried squash, garlic, and corn will make a tasty meal—you can almost smell a spicy stew bubbling in the copper pot in its trivet!Josefina's Cocina Supplies $25 JWAB Rate: A Contains: 1 mano, 1 metate, 1 jar, 1 ring, 1 dipper, chiles, 1 basket, 1 stick, squash, 3 cobs corn, garlic, 1 pot, and 1 trivet. We love this set in our home. It has a huge amount of playability. everything is so well done right down to the details in the garlics. my daughter has been playing with it for a long while today. The pot really is pottery and is heavy. The copper pan is just so realistic! I can not say enough about the quality and adorable cuteness of this set! My daughter made a good choice in this purchase for her collection! The set is really nice. I was surprised at its quality! I know you will enjoy it if you order it. There are times that the AG images don't do justice to their products. Still other times the pictures are far nicer then the product. this was one that really suprised me when my daughter brought it home.

This is the best set for Josefina. The size of the copper pot certainly amazed me. I guess I just didn't think it would be big enough for her to actually put her food into. The quality of these items are great. The play value is well worth the money spent....(except now that it's retired, the price is usually a bit steep) Wonderful, fun set. I love this! Grade A Josefina and her Cocina Supplies (size comparison)

I was so excited when I finally got my cocina set. I knew it was going to be a nice set, but it so much nicer that I had expected. The pieces are of high quality and are cute to boot. It has a lot of pieces and will offer a lot of playtime and enjoyment.
Overall Grade : A+

Josefina loves her random branch of goodies! The branch is a really odd choice. Josefina can't hold it, and though her things look nice hung on it, there's not really anything to hang it *on.* The corn is pretty- my family also keeps ears of Indian corn in the home as decoration. The blue and red corn cobs are accurate, but the yellow would have been better in an off-white color. The garlic seems out of scale at first, but I decided that these ears of corn were just smaller, as corn was before genetic engineering. I love thinking about Josefina and her sisters sitting and braiding the stalks and husks into these strands. The chile ristras are very pretty- it was so creative to use twists of paper as chiles! The squash, unfortunately, looks particularly unappetizing. I love Josefina's big, black water jug. Again, it reminds me of stuff my family has at home. The braided ring is so cunning! Poor Josefina, however, cannot use her gourd dipper to actually get water from the jug- it's bigger than the opening at the top! The mano and metate are great toys. They're probably the items with the longest history- even prehistoric native New Mexicans used these to grind their cornmeal. It's too bad that no cornmeal/ blue cornmeal is included, but that would be messy. I love the big copper pan. I like to think of it bubbling with thick green chile stew on its iron stand. Additionally, it looks just like the big copper washtub that Josefina and her sisters use in the first book. Great dual purposing! The basket is very pretty, but I think it would have been better if they had included a basket in the Pueblo style with designs. The Montoyas would almost certainly have traded for them. Grade: A

Elements of this set fit in well with other miniature pottery and small gourds and squash I've found. Having a real mesquite tree in my front yard allowed me to make a more elaborate hanging system (the plastic PM twig is on there, it's slightly shinier then the real ones.) There is an AG and a PC mano and matate set in the pics. The PC one is slightly larger and is a composite made from stone with a gold foild sticker on the bottom. The AG one is 100% plastic and is stamped "American Girl made in China" in the mold on the bottom:

This set is adorable. It's so nice that Josefina has true food items rather than just the treats/sweets the other PC girls have. The mano and metate are wonderful.
