Released as Feast Day Finery in 1998 for $20. Name of this outfit was changed to Feast Outfit in January 2009. Retired in 2018. This outfit was worn by Josefina in the book Happy Birthday, Josefina! and the short story "Just Josefina"
Instead of celebrating her birthday, Josefina celebrated the feast day of San José, the saint for whom she was named. Dress Josefina in her finest for the festivities: a crisp, white camisa edged with rows of ruffles, a brilliant turquoise skirt with a swirl of appliqué at the hem, and a wide orange sash. The fancy slippers of turquoise satin were a surprise gift from Clara! Weave the red ribbons in Josefina’s hair so she’ll look as elegant as she feels.
I didn't see this anywhere else so I thought I'd make the thread on it! I love this outfit! The ruffled Camisa is just so delicate and cute! The skirt has amazing detail. The ribbons are, ribbons. They are nice, but nothing special. and the shoes! So pretty and sweet! Pictures soon to come! I rate this A+++++++++++

This outfit is just plain spectacular. The shirt is fancier than the other ones she has while at the same time not being frou-frou in any way. I like tying the ribbons around the sleeves to add even more color. The skirt is absolutely beautiful- I love the turquoise and the pattern. The shoes are not staying so well on her- but I am using the black ones from the Christmas outfit anyway. Very beautiful color combination. A from me.

Feast Day Finery Item #JBO (D5906) $22 (price increase from $28 to $32 January, 2012) "Instead of celebrating her birthday, Josefina celebrated the feast day of San José, the saint for whom she was named. Weave the red ribbons in Josefina’s hair so she’ll look as elegant as she feels." The camisa to this set is a beautifully ruffled peasant top. It's light weight cotton, but wonderfully made. It closes in the back with velcro The skirt is a lovely shade of turquoise with black silk trim. It's light weight cotton as well. There is a small lime green ribbon sewn at the point where the white skirt top meets the turquoise main section. Very cute and well made. Velcro closure in the back. The turquoise slippers (shoes) are the cutest! They are satin and have a lower edge to the back to represent dancing slippers. Very sweet and well made. They do tend to slip off of her foot if you aren't careful. The orange sash is just a silk ribbon. It is 1 1/4" wide and is 16 1/2" in length. The two red hair ribbons are also just silk ribbons and are 1/4" wide by 10 1/2" in length each. Beautiful set for Josefina. Grade A

I give this Josefina outfit an A.
The downside for me is that the beautiful turquoise slip-ons just don't fit my Josefina doll (circa 1998). So for these photos, Josefina is shoeless. The slip-ons fit my more recently purchased dolls though, but I might be a little worried that the saturated color may stain vinyl (so be careful of that possibility).
The outfit itself is easy to put on and take off, and so a breeze to play with. The ruffled shirt is definitely my favorite part- as others have said- it is fancier and different than her other shirts. The belt and skirt are very well made as well.
For $22, the quality of the outfit and the inclusion of shoes and ribbons really makes this a good choice for Josefina's wardrobe. And I think it will mix and match with other items from her collection nicely.

The camisa - This is my favorite Josefina camisa. It won't really mix and match, but it seems very Spanish with the sleeve ruffles. There are three rows of ruffles on the sleeves and one row around the neck. It's made of cotton, and like the rest of her blouses it reaches to her knees. A +The skirt - The skirt is actually one of those items that's prettier in person than in the catalog. The color of the skirt's bottom panel is deeper, more of a cross between turquoise and teal than I expected. There are three black stripes in the print which I always thought were ribbons stitched to the skirt; there really are two ribbons stitched to the hem of the skirt, one wide and another thinner one sewn in loops. Connecting the teal panel to the white panel is a lime green ribbon that seems kind of historically inaccurate, but it was still there during Pleasant Company so who am I to argue. The white panel is thicker fabric and just a slightly different color than the camisa; however, the two still blend well enough and the sash makes the transition between the two pieces easier. This skirt, by the way, was supposed to belong to Josefina's Mama, according to Just Josefina. A The sash - this sash is also mentioned in Just Josefina as belonging to Tia Dolores. I think it's supposed to represent silk, but in reality it's a wide orange woven ribbon with sheen. I actually don't mind that it's just a ribbon, and the color is very pretty. AThe ribbons - just red ribbons. They don't really match the outfit if she's not wearing her shawl, and they were kind of too short to wrap around her braids. B The slippers - I find myself very impressed with a lot of American Girl slippers for some reason, and this is no exception. These are made from a very vivid turquoise satin, with black plastic soles. The 2008 slipper fit just tightly enough on my 2004 Josefina for her to wear them without slipping off. Another reviewer said they would not fit her PM Josefina, but although they were a squeeze I still managed to fit them on our PM 14's feet. Someone also asked if the saturated color of the slippers would stain feet, but if you look closely there's a lining of plastic on the inside, probably to protect against that. More Josefina trivia: these shoes belonged to Clara. Out of all of Josefinas' shoes, these are my favorite. A+Yay pictures!

Josefina's Feast Day Outfit is particularly special because the pieces belong to different members of her family. The skirt was a special gift from Abuelita, because Josefina is quiet and gentle like her Mamà, who owned the skirt before her. She borrows the slippers from her sister Clara, and the orange sash is from Tia Dolores. I love the ruffles on the white camisa. Because they're so festive and dressy, this camisa doesn't lend itself particularly well to mix and matching. I love how the bright white of the camisa looks when placed in the rich coloring of her wood trunk. The skirt is quite unusual. Like the weaving outfit skirt, it looks as if it would have been better to do the whole skirt in the bottom pattern, with the camisa flaring out over the top. Also like the weaving outfit skirt, it seems like the white part starts a bit too far down. Still, what do I know? Maybe they really did end that far down, though it doesn't seem so from the vintage drawings in Josefina's World. The slippers are very nice. I have a PM Josefina, but purchased the outfit in 2004. Luckily, the shoes fit my Josefina well, but I wouldn't take her out wearing them as they do slip off quite easily. The color matches the skirt almost perfect- what a coincidence considering neither belonged to Josefina originally! The orange sash is iridescent, which I find a bit odd. Did they have iridescent material in 1824? I would think not. The sash is too short to tie in a bow, it has to go into a little knot. I really wish it had been just an inch or two longer- it would make the ensemble much easier to wear, as the camisa and skirt add quite a bit of thickness to Josefina's waist. The red ribbons are nice, but they are not long enough to weave into Josefina's hair as shown in the birthday style. I ended up using them with her hair in two braids with her indigo skirt and camisa, and cutting my own red ribbon to the length needed for her birthday style. Grade: A-

I just bought this outfit and the skirt as well as the shoes are a bit small on my chunky PM Josefina. I love the outfit, it looks beautiful on her, but those two pieces are tight.

So for the beribboned hairstyle, is a length of ribbon just attached to the top of one braid section, and then braided with that section of hair? I've tried it, but then I'm not very good with hairstyles and it didn't turn out too well. But I didn't secure it at the top, so that probably makes a difference!

This outfit is beautiful. The camisa is fancier than the one in her meet outfit because it has the adorable ruffles. (It could also double as a nightgown if you want!) The skirt has very pretty turquoise and black embroidery and the sash completes the look. The shoes are little turquoise satin slippers. I think they are cute, but they can slide off the doll's feet if you are not careful. I think it's nice that the outfit came with ribbon, and there are lots of different ways you can use it! I need to get some better pictures of this, but here's a few. I love this outfit and it's significance. Just for future reference, mine was purchased on the 2010 QVC package. It has some many pieces and details, and all are great quality. A+

I just picked up what appears to be an early PC version of this on eBay, complete with maroon box, hanger, and the pamphlet advertising Josefina's birthday items and explaining their significance. I can't believe how gorgeous Josefina is in it. I was impressed with this when it first came out, and I like it even more in person. I love the beautiful, rich colors, cute ruffled camisa, and wide skirt. My Mattel doll fit in everything just fine, even the shoes over the socks from her Christmas Dress.
Two minor complaints - the orange sash has apparently always been too short to tie in a bow in the back, and yes, those shoes are apt to come off. Otherwise, this is probably Josefina's loveliest outfit and an absolute must-have in her collection.

This was the first outfit I ever got from Josefina's Collection. I still love it so much. The details put into the outfit is awesome. Everything pairs wonderfully together and Josefina looks so good in it. The fact that it is an outfit that was illustrated in the book is another perk.
As said, the ribbon for her waist is a little short, so I never made a bow in the back just more of a half bow. Also, as she obviously can't hold her fan, that's a bit of a bummer. I have used at times an elastic band to help her to hold the fan like in the magazine.
It's too bad they retired this outfit.

This set is so bright and colorful. I wish the orange ribbon was long enough for a bow and not just a knot. Josefina by Laura *, on Flickr Josefina 1 by Laura *, on Flickr
