*This outfit was worn by Josefina in the book Changes for Josefina*
This set is a combination of the Sarape & Hat (JWO $22) and the Winter Wear (JWOA $10).
Josefina’s Winter Accessories Item #JWOR $26
"Slip Josefina’s sarape (sah-RAH-peh) over her head so she’ll stay warm in the New Mexican winter, which can be very cold when the sharp winds blow. Top it off with a wide-brimmed black hat, and adjust the chin strap so it won’t blow away! Josefina and her sisters knit thick socks to keep their toes warm. She also wears an extra petticoat under her skirt. Hang the leather pouch, or guadameco, around Josefina’s neck so it’s close to her heart. There’s a special letter from Papá tucked inside!"
This is one of the first pieces I ever got for Josefina because I thought she needed a sarape to keep her warm.
The sarape is made of thick, imitation wool that looks very hand woven (although I'm sure it's not) and very truly resembles an authentic Mexican sarape. It slips over her head.
The hat is black velvet and very sturdy. It is also very Mexican looking. She looks great in it, but you need to keep it in it's plastic when not in use to keep that black velvet from getting very dusty.
The little leather pouch opens up by sliding the top portion up the straps and inside is a tiny letter from Papa to Tia Dolores' father. Unfortunately it's written in English, which makes it lose a bit of authenticity.
The petticoat is a thick, soft cotton with pretty eyelet trim around the bottom. It makes many of her skirts poof out more and looks great with anything. Velcro closure in the back.
The 'wool' socks are so thick and warm! It's hard to get her shoes on with them. They are a very scratchy, synthetic wool, but look very hand made and authentic.
We love the mix and match ability of this set and Josefina uses many of the pieces with different outfits. Grade A
Josefina keeping warm with her winter accessories set
The beautiful, velvet hat
Winter socks, leather pouch with letter, and petticoat
This is the best set! The price in my opinion, is about $5 too high, but it comes with a lot of variety. The hat is simply stunning. Very nice quality rich velvety black, so pretty on Josie. The sarape I expected to be thicker than it was. Its ok. I like the wide under-skirt to use under all of her other outfits. The purse is very soft leather and just the cutest thing! I highly recommend this set to add versatility to all of Josefina's other outfits.
I love the little leather pouch. It feels real, it's soft and kind of fuzzy. The little note inside is folded so intricately, I was afraid to open it but I did and the letter is so beautiful! The petticoat is brushed cotton, thinner than Addy's nightgown but same type of fabric. It's too long for Samantha and Kirsten to wear but works nicely under Josefina length skirts. The socks are very heavy wool and kind of scratchy and uncomfortable. I don't have the sarape and hat. B+ for the petticoat, socks and pouch.

I love Josefina's Winter Accessories. It's so sad that they were retired. As a Native New Mexican, I can say with great certainty that Josefina would have needed something warm in the winters. Sadly, the poor girl only has one long-sleeved camisa and the sarape to keep her warm.
Josefina's hat is a lovely black velvet with a black grosgrain ribbon. It's very classy. In this picture, it's sitting a bit high on Josefina's head because she has her hair in French braids. The only downside to the hat is that it probably picks up cat hair like nobody's business, so this is definitely staying away from the furry denizens of my house.
Josefina's white petticoat isn't very thick. It is, however, quite long. I'm going to venture that it's so thin because it actually needs to go under Josefina's skirts, which also have camisa and drawers tucked in. I really like the detail on the hem; I can imagine Josefina crocheting it herself.
Josefina's socks are the wintriest of the lot. Unfortunately, because they're so thick, I couldn't get them on underneath her moccasins. They also look ridiculous with the dainty shoes from her shoes and socks set. The only thing they really work with are her riding boots, and even that's a strain, as you can see in the photo.
I really don't care for sarapes at all, so I was surprisingly pleased with how nice Josefina's looks. I love the color, which fits into the Josefina earthy color scheme so well. The little pouch is very sweet, as is the letter inside. Like AGR said, it's sad that the letter couldn't be in Spanish, but I can see why they would make it English.

Currently, on E-Bay, the serape and hat are selling seperately from the petticoat/socks/pouch set. I just won the serape without the hat.
As stated above, the serape is not wool (good for those allergic) and feels like a poly blend, but in a nice way not a nasty way. The design is woven into the cloth and the color is terra cotta. Most of the pictures I have seen make it look orange. It measures 19" long and about 10 1/2 inches across. When my Josefina is wearing it, it comes almost down to the bottom of her meet skirt.
The serape is the most wonderful item of clothing I currently have. It really makes the "look" for Josefina. Before, she was from New Mexico, but now she finally LOOKS the part. When I put it on her I instantly fell in love with it. You can't go wrong with this item. Will review the other items as I get them.
This is such a great set. I can't think of a single thing not to like about this set. The socks are nice and warm (wish I had socks that nice when I lived in MI!) and her sarape is a lovely fall blend which looks beautiful with Josefina's medium skin. Her hat is a lint magnet, but nothing a lint roller can't get off quickly, but that's the price you pay to have cats. I adore the pouch and the little letter inside. An A for this lovely set.
