Pre-Mattel Felicity, wearing the 'Rose Garden Gown', made her debut in Fall 1991 and was produced until Mattel acquired Pleasant Company in 1998.
Your Felicity doll has snappy green eyes that open and close, and silky red hair that curls in soft tendrils around her face. Brush her long wavy hair and gather it with an ivory satin ribbon. She has a huggable, soft body with head, arms, and legs you can pose. She can sit, stand, and hold the charming accessories in her collection. Felicity comes dressed in a flower-striped gown edged in ruffles. Underpants were not worn in 1774, but under the gown there is a simple shift. She wears white wool stockings and black shoes with fancy buckles. Her shoes are "single-lashed," which means they are just alike and will fit on either foot. In colonial times people switched their shoes from one foot to the other so they would wear more evenly! Your Felicity dolls comes, as shown here, with Meet Felicity book.
Doll - Pre-Mattel A+
This is a gorgeous Felicity! Like there are different types of Samanthas, there are different variations for Felicitys. My Pre-Mattel Felicity is one of the originals from 1993. She has carrot-red hair and gorgeous green eyes. The eyes have the "spoke" look to them. Her vinyl is soft and she lacks a lot of facial coloring although this could be the result of play. Her face also seems rounder than the current Felicitys. Her meet dress is different from the Mattel version in that the roses are larger and they look a little more painted on. She is absolutely gorgeous.

Overall Grade: A (A+ for Lissie, A- for the meet outfit)
My little sister gave me her Felicity from when we were kids; I have a 1991 Lissie. My little sister got her the Christmas she came out.
The PM Felicity is a gorgeous doll. Mine has bright red hair with lighter red highlights. Her eyes are the lovely, muted green with red eyelashes. After years of play, she had little face paint left, so I gave her a little blush and faint pink lips. Her eyebrows are a pale red and match her hair very well.
I had a Mattel Felicity before my little sis gave me hers, and in my honest opinion, the PM is much nicer. But then I am very partial to Irish looking lasses and love the bright red hair. And the newer Mattel green eyes scare me, they are so bright.
As for the meet outfit, it isn't one of my favorites. (The traveling gown isn't either, honestly.) I'm not a huge fan of pink on redheads, and the dress just isn't very exciting in my opinion. My Lissie rarely wears hers. The meet outfit is pretty simple- dress, shift, socks, shoes. The shoes are nice and detailed. The original socks were wool and very high quality, though prone to getting holes over the years compared to the new, thinner ones. The shift has a tendency to stretch out the elastic over time, but you can order a new one from AG. The original 1991 dress had very thin velcro and eventually I had to sew new velcro in so the dress would stay closed.
Overall, the meet outfit isn't amazingly great to me, but Lissie is! You can see Lissie on my webpage (in siggy), along with a comparison chart and picture to Mattel Lissie.

My beautiful Lissie is from April 1992. She has coppery red hair and nice muted green eyes. Her face color is midway between earlier PM dolls and Mattel dolls. It is still as beautiful as they day she arrived. Her body is peach, not tan, and super soft and squishy. She is the most soft and fun to hug of all my AGs. I love her reproduction French roller print cotton gown and how it has tiny slits so she can stick her hand in her pocket. She comes properly dressed in a shift under her gown with NO underpants, which is historically correct. Her stockings are real wool and thick. They sag a bit. Sadly, not all the pieces of her outfit hold up. Her shift has lost the elastic, her shoes lose their soles repeatedly and the velcro on her meet dress lost much of the stickiness making her dress rather loose. Here is Felicity in her original Meet shift and stockings. You can see how the neckline somehow split open and the elastic is all stretched out. Her stockings are really thick and woolen. With the imposter AG Felicity Two 1990s Felicitys: My cousin's (1993?) and mine (1992) Grade for the doll: A++++ Grade for the outfit: A-

Felicity B Mine is also a PM, though I don't know precisely what year, as I only got her this year. She does have the auburn hair. I really love the auburn hair on her, I think it is a very pretty clor. The reason I give Felicity an A -, is really, though Felicity is in some ways my favorite historical - what is with the eye color? I have only seen eyes thatt shade of green on horror movies! I just really wish that the green eyed dolls had eyes that actually look realistic eyes like the other colors do. When you see the Magic Attic dolls green eyes (I have 2 with these) it really emphasises how silly they look. That said, I'm done with the critisism! Her Meet dress I do love. Though it doesn't fit as nicely as some of her other dresses, the fabric is simply beautiful and goes so well with her complexion. Her shoes are made extremely well, and her stockings are nice too. Over all I think the doll is so lovely, but I had to honestly rate her B for her eyes. Now I feel bad!!!

I love my PM Lissie! She was my first AG and I got her in either late December 1997 or the first week of 1998 (can't remember). She has auburn hair and light face coloring that I like on her since a lot of redheads have fair complexions anyway. I sort of wish that my Lissie had brighter hair but her auburn is lovely as well. I love her just the way she is and she is definitely my favorite! She's definitely an A+ from me! ETA photos

My PM Felicity is from either 93 or 94, and she is in really great condition. Her hair is very manageable and a great shade of red, not too bright and not too dark. She is older than my Molly but she was my second doll, her rpevious owner was my step-sister who has grown apart from her. Felcity is one of my main models, but she is out traveling wiht one of my mangers grand-daughters and should be home soon.

I can't be 100% percent positive that my Felicity is a pre Mattel doll or not, but I'm guessing she is since she doesn't have a body tag. Felicity was the second doll I purchased and I just love her. I had intended for her to be a historical doll, but after they retired so many of her items I really didn't want to continue her collection. Recently I have realized I would prefer her to be a historical doll as was intended and I'm very happy with that choice. Felicity's hair is not a lovely red but more of an auburn color. She has the soft eyelashes that match her hair color and lovely green eyes. Right now she is sporty her original meet outfit and is in dire need of some new clothes. She only has two outfits! I need to either learn how to restring Felicity or send her in. The poor girl's legs are loosey goosey! But for anyone thinking of getting a PM Felicity, I say go for it!

My Felicity is from 1995, and she got a head replacement in 1997 or 1998. She has light coppery hair, not very bright, and a very fat body. She has a beautiful complexion.

My Felicity was a gift to me from a wonderful Hostboard friend in May 2005, a month after my father passed away. For this reason, she's very special to me, even if I don't collect as much for her as I do my other dolls. She is a prototype from 1991 and was used in AG photography as her former owner told me. I love her pretty red hair and green eyes and how her face is much fuller than newer Felicitys. She even still has facial color and some of her pin curls. Actually, she really has incredible coloring, and I'm beginning to think it was because she was used in AG photography. None of my other PM dolls have coloring like hers. So, yes, Felicity is very loved around here and definitely gets an A+ from me!

I just got a PM Felicity as part of a TLC lot on Ebay. I wasn't going to keep her, but my two daughters and I all think she is the prettiest doll we've seen, and mutually decided she was staying.
I've always been partial to Felicity and my oldest DD has a Mattel Felicity, so we had a lot of fun comparing the two. The PM one is definitely shorter and chubbier (even more so than other PM dolls we have). Her hair and eyes are lighter, she has the red eyelashes that match her hair, and very minimal face paint. Since she came from Ebay, I am not sure of her age, but I think she might be one of the older PM dolls. Her face looks different than other PM dolls we have with the same (classic) mold. Her vinyl is also different than our other PM dolls. It does not seem as smooth, and it doesn't get the same shiny look to it.
This is sort of unrelated, but I would also like to say that I am happy that Felicity's hair is supposed to be back in a ponytail, because the one we got had her hair trimmed slightly in the front on both sides. I would have thought that this would drive me crazy, even in a ponytail, but it's really not noticeable once it's back. I am usually a terrible perfectionist, but I think this is such a gorgeous doll in otherwise perfect condition, that I can overlook it.

Here is my Felicity with PrincessEmily's original 1991 Felicity in Williamsburg. They are nearly identical twins and both so beautiful! My Felicity is also identical triplets with Mrs.C. Felicity

I got my PM lissie off ebay recently for my birthday. her meet dress(mattel) came in today and that is why she is wearing it. Her hair is much more beautiful and deep red than then copper mattel version. The arms are way more durable as well as the hair not being frizzie. She has soft eyelashes unlike the new ones as well as many of you have said. Im writing this as she is in front of me so im looking at her features. My camera is broken so ill add pictures tomorrow or later today. ETA: picture!

I'm on a hunt for a just-so German Lissie, and my collecting of possible candidates is a little out of control. Take the triplets, for example: I can't say no when I see a German-looking face on the secondary market! The triplets have several features I'd say are West German (common on, say, WB dolls): the face mold itself (someone more descriptive will have to help me on all that means), feathery lashes, one or both eyes gazing slightly "off" instead of center, wig caps that peek through at the crown, rosy facepaint, bronze colored eyebrows... and for Lissie, those muted green eyes with the red tinted lashes. The middle Lissie has the longest hair and the most frizzies; obviously the doll on the right has endured a haircut. The doll on the left may or may not have been trimmed...And the WG Lissie with a real haircut: Yeah, that makes 4. If you think I have too many, try talking me into selling. mod edit to remove dead image links

I've got one but I've been sorely tempted to get her head replaced. I don't really like how pale and broad her face is and I love the hair color on newer Felicity dolls.

This is my Felicity the night I brought her home. And on Halloween a couple of weeks later after I washed her hair with baby shampoo and conditioned it with Son of a Gun. BTW, almost 2 years later her hair still looks good but feels a bit dry. Maybe it's time for another treatment.... And this is my Lissie after Firinel added some color to her face and freckled her.

Here is my Lissie from this past Christmas. I'm assuming that she is a possible German Lissie because of her hair colour, how the wig is attached, the light colouring of her facial features and the softness of her body. The dress she came with was tagged 1986 West Germany, though I got her off of ebay for 40ish dollars.

So many beautiful Lissies! Here is a picture of my and DD's Felicitys:
I know they are PM and they both have soft eyelashes, but I think their hair is more auburn than true red. Pretty sure mine was made in China, but DD's (on the right) has a chubbier face, so I don't know. Neither of them have body tags.

Here's my Felicity. I think she's one of the older Felicitys, based on the way you can see where her wig is attached in back. I think she's so pretty--her hair is gorgeous, and just love her! (The pictures are thumbnails--click on them for a bigger image, and there are more pics of her in the album)

My ebay Felicity came today and I'm so very pleased with this beautiful doll. She is wearing her Rose Garden dress tagged Made in West Germany. Her hair is bright red- much redder than my daughter's previous Mattel Felicity and somewhat brighter than my previous PM Made in China version. The ends of her hair are dry and a bit frizzy but I'm confident that a SOAG treatment will take care of that. Her eyelashes are long and red. Her cloth body is chubber and her vinyl parts are squishy and a different texture than other PM and Mattel dolls like the one Natasha described above. Her neck stamp is in large crooked letters.

I got my PM Felicity doll in 1995, and she is just lovely. At first, I wasn't quite sold on her decal eyes, but they grew on me as I played with her. I adore Felicity's Rose Garden Meet dress - the fabric on it is pretty and lightweight, and the graduated frills on the sleeves are much more elegant than the flatter sleeves of her other dresses, in my opinion.
Her hair held up much better to play than my other AG - aside from a few split ends, which are inevitable, it's still glossy and like new! She could never stand up straight without a doll stand, though, so I just keep one around for her.

I bought my PM Felicity from Ebay a couple years ago from the young lady that owned her from new, she was moving overseas and couldn't take her with her. She came with her maroon box, her accessories in their box with the band still on it as well as a brush also in the plain maroon box with band. After having a look at the Ebay guide to the history of boxes for AG I know this particular box is from very early 91ish. I can't be certain but the history says they changed the box in 91 but still sold some in the plain maroon box. I don't know when they ran out of the box.
My Lissie has beautiful red silky hair and muted green eyes. Her facial coloring after all these years is magnificent. I don't know if she spent years in her box out of the light or she is just that good. I can't stand to put her away as she is my dearly loved doll, so I hope she does not fade. Some day if I learn how to add pictures to my posting I will add to this review.
I personally would recommend her as worth every penny and then some.

Felicity is one of three dolls my stepsister gave me when she went to college, and I believe she's the newest of the bunch. I'm guessing she's pre-Mattel. She has the plump body, soft vinyl, gorgeous auburn hair, and pretty muted green eyes. She also has the most face paint of my four dolls, which makes me wonder if she's from the transitional late 90s. She came with the Rose Garden Dress, heavy black buckled shoes, and the thick, woolen stockings...which alas, have rather big holes in the tops. She's wearing them now because I don't really have anything else for her, and her long dresses hide the holes anyway.
She was also in the best shape of the three dolls I got from my sister. Her hair is slightly dry on the ends, but otherwise thick and manageable. Her limbs are less floppy than the others and she can stand on her own just fine. Her face paint is all there and hasn't faded one bit.

Felicity was once my sister's, but I have since adopted her. Felicity has the gorgeous red hair of PM dolls, and I love her dearly. My sister regularly played with her hair and over the years it has dried out, and she has lost about half of her pincurls. I have yet to re-do them. her eyes are bright green, and can be a little odd close up, but are really gorgeous with her red hair. I really love her meet dress, much more so than the purple travel gown that has replaced it. It is classic and sweet, and really is perfect for the time period. Her cream hair ribbon is very darling, also. Felicity's shoes fit either foot, as is true of the time period. I can't remember if her buckles were shiny when new or not, it seems they've dulled over time. I can't remember, though. Felicity's stockings are thick and stay up very well on their own, without the garters from her meet accessories. Her shift is thin and could serve as a nightie, and fits under any clothing (with some adjustment so it doesn't show). The low, wide neck has elastic and the sleeves are short. Overall: Though old, she has held up well over time, despite dry hair. Be careful of her pincurls, as they are easily lost while styling, but also easily found again and can be recurled. I absolutely love her red hair and she will always hold a very dear, special place in my collection as the first American Girl doll I was ever exposed to. Grade: A+++++++

I love my 1995 Felicity! She's gorgeous, and her body is so huggable. The only problems she has are that her hair color has faded over the years, and she has a huge spot in the back of her head where there is no hair, just the wig cap. I know this isn't too common, but it's very annoying and really limits the hair styling. She looks good in hats, though. Overall, I'd give this Lissie a B+. But if it were based upon how much I love her, A+++!

I got my PM Felicity second hand and really believe she was only looked at and then put back into her original box. I also strongly believe this doll is one of the 1st runs. For those considering purchasing early PM Felicity... they are really a wonderful doll. I have owned several Felicity's PM and Mattel and nothing compares to the subtle beauty and soft green eyes of the PMs. I own a 1992-1993 Felicity as well and there is a difference in the facial structure. This very early doll(German made) has a wider face and heavy cheek coloring that doesn't show up in the photos very well. The best comparison I could give is a cream and roses complexion.

Here's how a combo of [hair down + mob cap framing the face] on West German Felicity, in three views (front, side, back). If you cringe at historical inaccuracy because colonial modesty says my Lizzie should have her hair tied back for this pic, don't look I love how she looks with her hair down - I don't care about historical accuracy when it comes to showing off beautiful hair. The second pic's the closest to her actual hair color in life. It actually glows more red than in the photos, but my camera's a free low-quality one built into the computer.

Not much more to add - but I'll throw a picture in. I will say that my Felicity's hair has stayed absolutely gorgeous over the 15+ years we've had her. It's lost any of its original curl, but it is still smooth, silky, and pretty.
