Released with a hinged lid in 1993, modified to have a lift-off lid in 2007, retired in 2012. Both versions are reviewed in this thread.
Hinged lid: Keep Addy along with all her clothes and accessories in this beautiful wooden trunk trimmed with sturdy black hobnails and finished with bentwood handles. It’s lined inside with reproductions of Civil War newspapers. Your Addy doll fits in the removable tray on top. There’s lots of storage space in the bottom—even a secret compartment where you can hide Addy’s most special treasures! A true keepsake for today, tomorrow, and always.
Lift-off lid: Girls can protect their Addy doll, her clothes, and accessories inside this beautiful wooden trunk trimmed with sturdy black hobnails and finished with bentwood handles. Addy's trunk is lined with reproductions of Civil War newspapers and includes a secret compartment to hide special treasures. The lid conveniently lifts off to access the removable tray and the ample storage space located at the bottom. W: 23" x H: 12" x D: 11"
I would rate Addy's trunk an A+++.
This trunk is 23 inches in length by 11 1/2 inches in height. It is made of wood, but has a "shellaced" appearance. The trunk has metal edging and metal "buttons' around the sides and top which give it a nice authentic look. The wood on our trunk is a light wood similiar in appearance to a very light oak. It is actually lighter than the pictures on the website show it to be. The top of the trunk is level so you can stack another trunk on top, unlike some of the other trunks like Josefina's. The sides of the trunk have leather handles for easy lifting.
Inside the trunk, has a wooden tray that you can use to store smaller objects in. The tray has a carved out hole on each side to put your fingers when oulling out the tray. The top of the trunk has a replica of a page from a newspaper from the Civil War era. The paper is actually more like wallpaper instead of actual paper consistency. Once you take the tray out, the bottom area of the trunk is nice. It is divided in half by another piece of wood. The bottom of the trunk has another newspaper replica. The trunk is pretty large and like Kirsten's and Josefina's they carry a lot, but Addy's whole collection will not fit in the trunk.
I haven't had a chance to take pictures, but I'll try to add some later.

I was a little disapointed when I saw Addy's trunk in person on display at AGPC. The wood felt thin and cheap and the newspaper didn't look like real newspaper to me. The trunk was nice but not as nice as I had expected. Hmmm. ...the wood on mine is thick. Similiar to the thickness of the wood on Josefina's trunk. Maybe I got an older trunk when I ordered mine. I was a little disappointed in the newspaper also, but I figured they used the wallpaper to hold up to years of play.

I just got Addy's trunk (income tax refund + free shipping = happy woman!) and I love it! It's heavy and well made and exactly as I pictured it. The newspapers lining the trunk remind me of some of the historic newspapers my family still has. Newspapers were usually printed on good rag paper at that time and not the cheaper wood pulp paper that Hearst would introduce later with his "yellow journalism" newspapers.

I just love my[Addy's] trunk. It came on Friday. It is beautiful. I was a bit surprised at just how large it is.. AA++. I hope it will pass down through the coming generations-with Addy's collection, of course.

I got Addy's trunk the other day, and can I say that this is just an awesome piece of furniture? It is probably the best trunk I have for my girls. I got the older version, from AG without asking for the older version of it.
It is the heaviest of all my doll trunks, but is also the most sturdy. It is darker than most pictures I've seen of it and all the ones I've taken of it. The tray has a secret compartment similar to the one in Josefina's desk (except bigger) that is perfect for storing Addy's smaller items that may get lost, like her cowrie shell necklace, school books, and some of her dishes. The handles on mine are wood, not leather. When it came it smelled like a new guitar, I was surprised.
The lid has a latch and the rope is attached to a piece of wood that keeps the latch in place. Inside, aside from the removable drawer with the secret compartment, Addy's trunk is divided into two sections to make it easier to store things. It is also lined with newspapers (they have the consistency of wall paper, though) which are reproductions from Harpers' Journal of Civilization.
This trunk is just...the best there is. A+++++++++++++++!!!

Addy's trunk is a must have. I store Addy's entire clothing collection in it, including ribbons, shoes and her paperback book set. Her dresses go in the top tray. I have every piece of clothing ever made for Addy, 1 custum made dress and an extra Summer Dress at the moment. They all fit and are laid flat in a pile. Her hats, hoops, whitegoods, shoes, and books go in the divided lower portion. The secret compartment, which is under the false bottom of the tray, holds Addy's ribbons, socks, jewelry. The false bottom lifts easily by pressing down on one side and lifting the other. I can remove the false bottom without dislodging the clothes laid on it.

I received Addy's Trunk as a belated 2010 Christmas and 2011 Birthday gift from my parents. Hooray for Christmas in March (and the free shipping code)!! I love Addy's trunk and it was much bigger than I expected. The wood feels solid and sturdy. I was able to get all of my Addy collection (clothing and small accessories) in the trunk. I have some dresses from Kirsten's collection and they fit in the bottom compartment, too. My husband commented that Addy looked like a vampire when packed away in the trunk. It would have been nice if Mattel kept the hinge, but that small detail did not deter me from purchasing the Mattel version. I do wish the latch on the front was real. I highly recommend Addy's trunk to any Addy lover. It is a nice way to store her and her collection and keep it dust free. Addy's trunk is really lovely and I'm very happy to have it now. I give it an A+. The hinged version would be nice but I like to buy Addy things directly from AG so the current one is fine. The wood doesn't feel thin to me at all, it's a solid and sturdy piece. It is larger than I remember it looking in the store, but it's not so large that it will be difficult to find a place for in our home.
it's easy to access the secret compartment, just push down on the left and the right side pops up. Mine came with a little card tucked in the side to explain it. Like skukla I can remove the panel without disturbing the dresses I have put on the tray.

I just picked up Addy's trunk from an antique store. It has some wear, so I paid considerably less than retail. While I was cleaning it up I noticed the divider in the bottom of the trunk slides in and out. So you could leave it in and have the two divided sections or take it out and it opens up the bottom for storage like Josefina's. I didn't see this mentioned in the review section.
I know it is Pleasant Company because it is hinged and it has a Pleasant Compay sticker on the bottom of the tray. It doesn't have a metal plaque on the back of the lid.
Do all of the trunks do this?
ETA: hopefully this will link to pictures of the trunk

That looks original to me. In the bottom of my new one that I just got yesterday, the newsprint is two separate pieces. One for each side. Yours being one large piece tells me it is meant to have the separating wood optional.

Can you fit two dolls in Addy's trunk? I was looking at her trunk review thread and I wonder if you can lay two dolls in it maybe side by side or something. Has anyone tried this? I have one of the older Addy trunks and she definitely can lay in the top tray, but only 1 doll fits--plenty of room though so she doesn't rub against the inside of the lid. Also, the divider in my trunk comes out. There are four pegs and the divider slides down over the pegs-- so you could use the trunk without the divider if you wanted to. I can get a huge amount of clothing, accessories and Addy herself in the trunk. Mermaid

I have a newer Addy Trunk. Addy does fit in the top tray just fine. There isn't enough room for 2 dolls though. Addy's trunk is one of my favorites. It's well made and I can fit a lot of items in it.

I have the older trunk as well after having the new trunk. It is a very rich chocolate wood that matches pefectly with the rest of her collection. It is gorgeous! The orange color just threw me off so much and it looked foreign when placed next to the rest of addy's collection, I had to send it back. I won this hinged version last week off of ebay and I am so glad i did. I don't understand why American Girl keeps diminishing the quality of the items. It is a huge noticeable difference and its a shame that they changed the design and quality of this beautiful trunk. American Girl just isnt the same as when it was owned by pleasant company. More pictures! This is a hinged version, as will become obvious when you look at the pictures. I bought it second-hand so I don't know exactly when it's from, but the rope is different from QNPoohBear's, it looks more like Skukla's. It's a very nice piece but I sold it when I sold off Addy's collection. I was tempted to keep it for someone else to use, though. ETA: I later started collecting for Addy again, on a smaller scale, but do not regret selling the trunk. It is beautiful but not convenient for the way my collection is arranged. I have do have Kit's (hinged) trunk, which has drawers, for storing small pieces. Clothes are hung up. Front: Latch: Top & Back: Sides: Bottom: Open: Inside "secret compartment": Under tray:

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this trunk. I am very pleasantly surprised. My SIL has the older version so I was able to compare to two. They are both well made and beautiful in their own right. With AG diminishing quality and craftsmanship, I was concerned about this trunk. I prefer the color of this trunk over the older ones. They put 4 black metals plates to simulate a hinge. They should have just put the whole hinge in. Overall it is a nice trunk, I would get while you can.

A friend of mine has this and I was recently able to see it. This trunk is amazing! If I could get one of the trunks this would be it. it looks so authentic and the secret compartment is a great added bonus. It looks fantastic out on display.
