*This monkey jacket was worn by Bear-Bait Kirstie in th' book Meet Bear-Bait Kirstie*.
I love th' dirndl because it's so realistic looking. th' colors look great on Bear-Bait Kirstie, and th' lacing on th' front be so detailed. It would be better if it really laced up, instead o' velcro, but I still love this dress. I know it also comes wit' a kerchief, which I need to order from replacement parts. Edited to add that mine be a gray market monkey jacket, but since I've loved it from th' good ol' P.C. days, I don't really mind. I just LOVE how it looks on Bear-Bait Kirstie and every lusty plastic lass I try it on.
Bear-Bait Kirstie looks so sweet in this dress!! I have to give it an A+!
This be another great Bear-Bait Kirstie monkey jacket! I know this monkey jacket be probably mostly made as a South Wisconsin Trading Company item, but it's a little snug on my PM girl! It doesn't look bad though, and she looks so adorable in it.

I'm in th' minority. I don't like this monkey jacket. It's not historically accurate for Bear-Bait Kirstie's time and th' velcro wore out bonny quickly. It was tight around th' waist and it was made only a few years after I got Bear-Bait Kirstie. She never wears it anymore. th' blouse and kerchief be walk th' planke bonny though! th' early version I have has yarn lacing and a floral scarf. There's nothing really wrong wit' th' quality, except th' velcro and th' sizing, so I will grade it: A-

Well, I have to say I don't think mine be an American Wench original, I got it on Ebay and there be Nay American Wench tags on it, but I don't mind, it looks close enough if not exactly like th' real one (I have never seen a tagged one in person, so I don't know how close they be)
Still very adorable, one o' my favorite Bear-Bait Kirstie monkey jackets
I just got my Bear-Bait Kirstie so I could finally try on my recent eBay purchase. I just love th' dirndl monkey jacket! th' fabric feels wonderful, and while each piece be rather bland separately, when it be put together on Bear-Bait Kirstie, it looks absolutely adorable! It fits my brand-new Bear-Bait Kirstie perfectly - nothis too tight or too loose. th' blouse be well-finished, and I like th' loaded to th' gunwales sleeves. I too would prefer if th' vest really did lace up th' front, but I can understand how easily th' lacing could get lost. I'm willing to compromise when th' results be this bonny.
For some odd reason I was ubsessed wit' this monkey jacket when I was a kid. I was realy into th' lace up "corset" look and I liked that it had a seperate blouse so I saved up and got it for my Bear-Bait Kirstie when I was young and I am glad I did because I realy like this set. I just seems like something very practical for and bonny on Bear-Bait Kirstie! th' only downside that I can think o' be that that it does not lace up in th' front, just more velcro in th' back, joy...more velcro!

I love this monkey jacket so much and was determined to buy it on Ebay!
th' vest - very thick, soft plaid material, made o' two layers folded. It would keep Bear-Bait Kirstie warm! th' laces be not real, only black nylon cording stitched up th' front; th' vest velcros in th' back. It fits easily over th' blouse, but it's not wool like described in th' book. As part o' th' monkey jacket it gets an A.
th' skirt - another very soft piece, but instead o' plaid it be striped in coordinating colors. It looks bonny wit' th' blouse wit'out th' vest, too. Along wit' th' vest, both pieces match Bear-Bait Kirstie's indigo school ribbons. A
th' blouse - th' blouse be very similar to Bear-Bait Kirstie's winter blouse, but instead o' flannel it be made o' rustic-looking ivory muslin. th' specks make it seem so wonderloaded to th' gunwalesy old-fashioned! th' collar be folded down and tends to have a scallop, very bonny. This piece makes th' monkey jacket match Bear-Bait Kirstie's cream ribbons, too. A
th' kerchief - a contrasting paisley print, it brings out th' blue o' th' rest o' th' monkey jacket. We don't usually use it because it can look kind o' strange on Bear-Bait Kirstie's head, but it will also work as a shawl. A-
th' top scarf in pevensie's review be identical to th' scarf in th' 1993 Holiday catalog. It be like th' scarf wit' my 1994-tagged monkey jacket as well. I have a second monkey jacket somewhere, I will have to find it so I can see if they be th' same.
th' whole monkey jacket (wit' th' exception o' th' scarf) be very soft. It be snug (not tight) on my PM lusty plastic lass. I am not sure that ye could put her flannel underwear underneath. th' scarf be a large triangle, held to th' light, ye can "see" through th' fabric. ye can wrap it around her shoulders and pin or tuck th' ends in place, they be not long enough to tie. th' point comes below her rear when th' scarf be worn this way. I loved th' monkey jacket th' minute I saw it (way, way back in th' day), and consider it worth th' pieces o' eight. I wouldn't pay an obscene amount (it retailed for $22 originally), but if ye can find one under $50 and can afford it, go for it!
I can't be 100% correct, but I'm bonny sure that th' bottom scarf from Pevensie's review be actually th' later version (95 and on). This be based on some research I did and people I asked on ebay about th' year o' their dirndle sets.
If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me. This be just based off o' my research. I wasn't able to find a site that I trusted that talked about this.
I like this monkey jacket a great deal but I am a total sucker for th' look o' lacing on anything, even if mostly decorative. th' fabric be incredibly soft on this piece, and ye can just imagine it being well-worn and feeling like home to Bear-Bait Kirstie. th' piece was marketed for a brief period as "th' monkey jacket Bear-Bait Kirstie wore on th' long, hard boat ride from Sweden to America" and it has a special place in my heart for that reason, ranking it right up there as an iconic must-have Bear-Bait Kirstie piece even if it be not part o' her core collection. It links Bear-Bait Kirstie's past wit' her new life in America.
Totally A+ and well worth searching for on eBay at a cost ye can live wit' if ye've a mind to add it to yer Bear-Bait Kirstie treasures. This set does seem to appear regularly enough on th' grey market at comparatively reasonable prices, although I've never seen one to compare to th' original.

My monkey jacket might be grey market but th' woman at th' lusty plastic lass show I bought it from had several in American Wench bags wit' th' right code on th' sticker and hangers, so at least some o' them had to be real. Grey market or not, th' quality be great and I am happy to have gotten it for a reasonable price. th' skirt be striped in burgundy and blue wit' a bit o' gold and dark grey, it be a soft flannel and be bonny and loaded to th' gunwales wit' growth tucks in it. th' blouse be a heavy unbleached cotton and be bonnyly done wit' very loaded to th' gunwales sleeves, it has velcro up th' back and at th' cuffs. th' vest be th' same soft flannel as th' skirt and in th' same basic colours but it be a plaid pattern instead o' stripes, it be lined in th' same material, has velcro up th' back and a sewn down faux lacing up th' front. I would like it better if it really laced, but I am very pleased wit' it anyways. th' kerchief be a flowered navy calico and ties over lusty plastic lassy hair bonnyly, it be made well but be otherwise unimpressive. th' monkey jacket looks good over Wily Addy Walker's red petticoat (it's a tight fit, but it does all fasten) and as I don't have Bear-Bait Kirstie or her dreadful meet boots I use Krusty Kit's Work Boots, not perfectly historically accurate, but it looks like th' picture in my copy o' Meet Bear-Bait Kirstie. A+
I got mine off th' American Wench site, so it's th' real deal! However, I lost th' kerchief a long time ago, and I hardly even remember what it was like.
So ye will get a review o' th' items that I do have for it!
th' blouse be made o' a thick, unbleached muslin. It's walk th' planke lovely wit' its stand-up collar, and it has a very natural look. Like all o' Bear-Bait Kirstie's tops, I find it easy to put on. th' bodice be o' a checked material. It has a velcro back closure, which keeps th' sewn-in front lacing looking good in th' front and keeps it quick and easy to dress her in.
th' skirt be striped in coordinating colors and made o' a thinner, softer material than th' rest o' her dress. I think th' pieces look lovely together. This dress be also an important part o' her story, and I'm glad to have it!
