Kirsten’s Washstand $32 KDF Grade: A The washstand we have is a mattel version. I like it very much and it's made pretty sturdy. It has one drawer that opens and closes and one door front that does the same. My daughter loves this set for play and has it out on display all the time. Here is a side view with the door and drawer fully extended:

I got Kirsten's nightstand as a Christmas gift one year along with her bed, and I totally adore it. The Hinge on my door became a little loose, but then again I did open and shut it a lot and actually ended up keeping a lot of small treasures in there for my dolls.

I have a Mattel wash stand too. I was shocked at how big it is: And HEAVY. I think I could chuck this at people and, with some great aim, kill them. If I threw it at someone, it wouldn't break either, because it's built like a mack truck. Very sturdy. Another shot, so you can see: I don't think it has nails. My one complaint is that it doesn't match my PM bed as well. (The contrast is worse than in this picture.) I like the night stand on its own a lot, though, and it's probably not something that would have worried Kirsten. She was too busy trying not to get eaten by bears.

I really like this little nightstand. Mine feels very sturdy, and the drawer slides very nicely. It's nice and heavy, but I'm not sure if it's mattel or pre-mattel.
I got mine secondhand, though, and it came with no door. I'm not sure how it was handled to cause it to come off, but I'm just throwing it out there that it does/can come off.
Still, for the part of the nightstand that I have, I give it an A-. The minus is because the door is off and it looks a bit untidy with her nightgown poking out the front.

Our washstand holds a shelf from Goodwill that was painted just the right color. It has held up very well.

I absolutely love Kirsten's washstand. I received mine in 1989 or 1990. I stored Kirsten's ribbons in the drawer and kept her night shoes in the central part.
The only thing that annoyed me about it was the door did not close all the way. It sat on my shelf with Kirsten through high school and college and every time I looked at it I thought "why won't it just close!"
A- for slightly annoying door but otherwise great toy!
