What can I say about the Fourth of July Fun set?

Well thanks to another Kirsten lover, I was able to get this set for about retail on ebay!

It is the cutest thing. The little honey pots are ceramic. They aren't heavy, but not cheap and fragile either. There's a little leaflet that lets you know what the days events are. And that little whistle is too cute. It really works too.

I can imagine Kirsten sitting under a nice shady tree on the fourth just chillin.

This is a nice set with lots of play possibilities and significance to the story. The honey pots feel like real crockery and have real corks. They are glazed and different sets look different from each other. The crate is real wood and wood burned with "Kirsten's Honey" burned on the side with a pretty leaf design. The flag is real cloth and has the correct design and number of stars for 1854. The flag pole handle is real wood. They Playbill sheet lists the events of the Fourth of July festivities of Maryville, MN. The date on my early PM set is 1853, not 1854. The bird whistle is really carved from wood with a real cut out to blow in and it makes a sound. The early PM one I have is smaller than the later set and has a red, elastic cord. The cord stretched out a lot over time and needs to be replaced.

I am shocked that this fairly fragile set survived my childhood as well as it did... and glad, too, because I think it's one of my favorites of Kirsten's accessory sets. Either my set (from somewhere in the early to mid 90s) is newer than the two pictured above or I did some damage to the flag as a kid that I don't remember, because my flag doesn't have a plastic ornament at the top of the wooden pole and the fabric of the flag is just glued to the side of the dowel.

The honey pots and handbill are my favorite pieces, but the whistle (which I unfortunately didn't get a picture of - I think it's stored with my Kirsten's summer dress rather than with this set) is adorable too. A from me!
