I actually picked this set up for $50.oo including the skates that I now have been seeing sell for $30.oo lately. I love the think warm look of this coat. It is made nice and thick with banding of red stripes on the hem, hood, and sleves. The details are it's little hand knit scarf with a heart deatil and the button closures. The buttons are made for be a faux bit of horn pulled through a small loop of leather. The ices skates are made of brass, wood, and leather. In each runner of the skate are two small heart cutouts. The skates strap over her shoes with leather straps and a buckle. All of this is mounted onto a thin wood platform then adhered to tthe brass.

This is actually the second set of skates we have. The first set had issues. Right wear the weld for the blade attaching to the under foot portion of metal on the skate, it broke loose. Boy.....did that make sense? these did seem rather fragile. I have one broken skate that I have been meaning to fix. I was debaing on using some JB Weld or some such product. Brass can be a terrible thing to try and repair.

One of Kirsten's best outfits. Haven't tried putting the skates on with Kirsten's new red boots. Don't have Kirsten's original boots. A.

This is another of AG's all-time great makes, I think. The wool is very very thick and the scarf is well-made and beautiful. I do not have the skates so I cannot review them but I am thrilled with the rest of this outfit. If you have the chance to get it on ebay or somewhere else, you will not be disappointed.

Could someone who has Kirsten's winter coat post a picture of the hood laid flat and measure how tall the front of the hood is? I'm drafting a pattern for it using Addy's coat as a base and would like to see pictures of the shape for reference.
I found a grey wool skirt with a striped border at our local salvation army that I'm hoping will yield enough fabric for a coat like Kirsten's and a Josefina's school skirt.

I am assuming you are talking about the skating coat (that's the only one I can think of with a hood). The hood on the coat is 5 1/2 inches wide and 6 1/2 inches high with a 1 1/2 inch cuff where the red/cream trim is. I'm not exactly sure how to post the photo I took, but the hood starts out as a perfect square (11X13) and the top edge just gets sewn down the middle and finishes with a tassel.
I hope this helps you. If I can figure out the URL photo thing, I will post that picture too.

I wanted all of my girl's to have their LE outfits, so Kirsten's skating coat was a must. I got the complete set from another collector and quite frankly, I don't see why she chose to give it up.
The coat is beautifully made. You can tell it's made from a real blanket because it's so warm and thick, and the red trim on the bottom, sleeves, and hood are extremely flattering. The buttons look like they're made of tiny horns and the hooks are genuine leather. The scarf is very well knit - even more so than Kirsten's PM knit woolens. I like the fact that it's stretchy but still quite sturdy, and the signature heart and squiggles keep the Nordic feel that I love.
The skates are bigger and more sturdy than they look in pictures, but they are still on the delicate side. Kirsten will probably hold hers whilst on display, not wear them. I saw just the skates go for almost what I paid for the entire outfit on ebay last week, so I'm not sure I can afford replacements!
This outfit is now in my personal top 5. The detail, quality, and general look on Kirsten is amazing. A+

I love this outfit and actually have 2 of the coats, 2 scarves, one set of skates that are perfect and one set of skates where one skate's blade came off. With the current cost of the skates on ebay, I certainly can't afford another set and am wondering how to fix it. I'm planning to take it the the "Mr. Fix It" in the mall to see if it can be welded. I've tried different glues to no avail. While I give the quality of the coat and scarf an "A+", I have to give the skates a "C" for not being sturdy enough for play. As was mentioned by other members, the beautiful fabric/quality of the coat and the tight stitching in the scarf make these pieces worth every penny. I was able to get both sets within ebay "lots" so I got them very inexpensively but the skates themselves fetch a very high price on ebay.

I cannot even begin to express how much I love this outfit! I have the entire thing, but I sadly could not find all of the pieces at the moment. The coat is very soft, warm, and I know that any girl during Kirsten's era would have worn this. A+ all of the way.

This outfit is so period perfect. The coat, skarf and skates are very 1850's. I love this with either her red school dress or the black wool skirt and white blouse. Buy it even if you can only get a reproduction set.
AAAA++++++

I only have the coat in this set, but it is one of the best quality items I have ever gotten from AG. It's heavy wool, and the bone buttons are so amazingly realistic!!! A++++++++

Am I supposed to put this on over her winter woolens sweater?? It fits nicely, but a little bulky around the neck...
I love this outfit more than I thought I would! The coat is so warm and snuggly- can't help but wrap Kirsten in my arms and sit by the fire. The scarf is a wonderful element in this outfit, great quality and the hearts tie in nicely with the rest of her collection, for example- the skates- I find them easy to put on over any of her shoes, the weld on mine seems really strong and the leather too. A++ Great quality. I also love the box it came in with the the ag collection band around it. It's so much more exciting and special feeling than those mattel ag boxes, there was a feeling of class and exclusivity to the old pc wrapping and boxes. Made my day to finally receive the original box with ribbon band thing, skates, coat and scarf! I'll post pics when I can.

This photo shows the difference between an authentic coat and what I am sure is a grey market coat. Note the difference in the length, fullness and buttons (they're on the wrong side on the grey market one). When I purchased Kirsten's coat on e-bay, I didn't know anything about the grey market. After learning about it through this board, I looked for a tag in my coat and there wasn't one. I didn't ask the seller about a tag because I assumed the coat was genuine and would have a tag, but it wasn't until I read here about the grey market and looked for a tag that I discovered no tag, no genuine coat. This also told me that I paid way too much for the coat. I eventually purchased another coat and knew to ask about a tag. When I received the coat, I compared it to my first one and then I saw the differences. I'm guessing that whoever produced the coats is no longer doing it, so they haven't changed the buttons to the correct side on more recent ones.

This outfit is precious. The coat is wool and an exact replica. the scarf is sweet with its heart design woven it. The skates are lovely with their brass turned up toes.
