Nightgown

Kirsten's nightgown is thick, soft, white flannel with real blue yarn sticthing on the yoke. It is just as cozy as a real people sized nightgown and good for snuggling. The stitching on the yoke and sleeves adds a pretty touch. The nightgown gets worn and pilly over the years and the yarn bow comes untied and the yarn stitching frayed. I think this nightgown is so cute and perfect for cuddling, despite the age-worn look it gets.

I love this night gown too, but Pooh is right -- it doesn't hold up. Mine looks as loved as it does because as a kid, I put Kirsten into it every night.

LOVE THIS, this outfit has sustained many years of play, it was one of my 1st Kirsten outfits. Durable and cute, who would have thought!

The nightgown - Kirsten's nightgown was one of the first historical outfits we purchased way back in 2004. Fast-forward 5 years, Kirsten has many more outfits and this one is really not worn much. It's sweet enough and I'm glad for the stitching and yarn details, but the flannel has pilled very easily with gentle play and makes the gown look pretty shabby. I'm not sure it is worth full price and it looks kind of lonesome without the housecoat. B

My 1994 nightgown seems to have the bow sewn on in a way that it shouldn't come undone. I am not willing to test this by trying to pull hard on it. Soft and cozy, makes me feel snuggly just feeling it.

Here's Kirsten's nightgown on ALOF Laylie. I got this nightgown in a lot on ebay. It's PC and seems to have lost it's softness (it also has a hole in the back where it velcroes). I'm indifferent towards it really, just a standard nightgown.

My Kirsten nightgown is a PM one. It has tiny details that I appreciate - delicate lace at the collar, cuffs, and placket, blue quilted embroidery at the yoke, and a yarn bow with long tails! I'm not sure if the flannel, which did pill over the years is the result of it being a low-quality fabric or my loving it a little too much - I used to dress Kirsten in it every night before laying her right next to me in bed! The nightgown has held up pretty well, considering the fact that I got it in 1993!

I got Kirsten's nightgown for Christmas so mine is from the end of the line. When I first looked at it I was surprised that bow on the neckline was yarn and not ribbon. To me it made it look homemade. But after I thought about it I realized that ribbon would be scarce out on the prairie. They could make yarn from sheep's wool, but ribbon would be harder to make/get. So the homemade feeling I was getting was historically accurate for Kirsten. It just didn't quite feel like AG quality to me. For that it gets an A-.

I got a pre-loved nightie for my Kirsten in an eBay lot. I believe it is from the mid or late 90s, at least, maybe older. It had been previously washed but when I got it, there were some stains, so it got an oxy soak in the kitchen sink in some fairly warm water. It came out nice and soft and white, and it dried with less wrinkles and with the yarn nice and flat. However, after a few days of my doll wearing it with her housecoat and sockor, and me taking her out and putting her away several times, it has already gotten dirty. I guess it is to be expected with flannel; it is just a dirt magnet.
I feel like my nightgown is a little too short on my Kirsten... I don't know if it is a design choice, if the length has changed at all over the years, or (more likely) if my gown has experienced a lot of hot water shrinkage. The sleeves still come to her wrists just fine, but I am disappointed when clothing is not preshrunk, especially if it is going to have to be washed a lot like children's toys, and especially if it is white! I just wish the nightgown came down farther to her ankles.
