This outfit is worn by Samantha in the 1986 Edition of the book Meet Samantha. It was released in 1990 and retired in 2005, and was paired with the White Party Slippers.
Samantha practiced her manners during afternoon tea with Grandmary. She tried to act like a proper young lady in her starched white dress with its big detachable bertha collar trimmed with a rosette and ruffles. It comes with a pink satin hairbow that matches the lovely wide sash, and a pair of white socks. Be careful she doesn't spill tea on such a pretty dress!

The Good: Love the style, with the Bertha collar. I also really like that it's white, with pink details, it's very pretty. Satin ribbon is very pretty (this one can match a few of her other outfits quite well).
The Bad: I think it looks funny without the collar. Doesn't really match her meet shoes very well.
Rating: ****1/2, A

I love this dress; it looks like the dresses in some of the photos in the "Peek into the Past" sections. The tucking detail on the dress, under the Bertha, is a nice touch.
However, the material is extremely thin - thinner even than the white material on Nellie's Meet dress - and apparently always has been. I compared my version to a friend's pre-Mattel. I think I need to get Sam's lacey whites so that she doesn't outrage modesty!

One of my favorite dresses. Absolutely beautiful and feminine without being too frilly. It has lasted me quite a bit and has not gotten dirty. I like the removable collar. A+

And here is a picture of the outfit. I do not know why the sun streak happened. But you can see the dress and collar and hairbow. I love the way it looks on my Samantha.

I ended up with two Lacey Whites sets because of this, so Sam can wear this dress without being see-through and also not show the ribbon through the dress.

The Bad: I think it looks funny without the collar. Doesn't really match her meet shoes very well. Samantha's White Party Slippers were originally meant to wear with her Tea Dress. From the 1993 Christmas catalogue: "Samantha's shiny white patent slippers are trimmed with bows that match her tea dress. How pretty!"

I just tried this on my doll for the first time tonight. For anyone who is debating about the outfit or whose dolls haven't worn it yet....Don't forget that there's velcro on the wrists!! It's a no brainer if you know it's there, but I could see seams getting stretched if you didn't know about it.

I picked up this dress on EBAY from the original owner. It's tagged Pleasant Company 1993. I don't know if there's a difference between the Pre Mattel and Mattel versions. I love the simplicity of this dress. The lace detailing is wonderful and I like that it's white with pink accents. It's beautiful and feminine without being obnoxious or too girly. I give it a solid A.

This dress is really pretty. I agree that's pretty and sweet and feminine but not too girly. The bertha collar really makes it look special, but the simple look without the collar is also lovely. I love it with or without the collar, and the pink and white party shoes complete the look. It also looks really cute with the rosebud circlet from the birthday outfit. The only flaw would be that the material is really thin. My Sam doesn't have lacy whites, but she does have a slip and it's pretty see through without it. A-

I picked this one up along with the Pink Striped Birthday Pinafore outfit on eBay earlier this summer. While yes, it is quite thin, that's my only real complaint. Even more than her Birthday Pinafore dress, this is pretty and elegant without being too fussy, and the removable collar gives it a bit more versatility than many of her outfits. It pairs rather nicely with the white heels from Rebecca's Lace Dress.

This is my childhood Samantha's Tea Dress, but PC Sam doesn't play dress up anymore, so she gave it to Mattel Samantha It seems to fit Sam 2.0's thinner body just fine! She likes to style it with her fancy white shoes with pink bows, white stockings and her wide pink bow ^_^ In fact, Samantha's Tea Dress sash looks a little wimpy compared to her hair bow! I don't really think the dress fabric is thin, even after reading other reviews indicating their Tea Dress is. It might depend on the dress! This dress wasn't a huge favorite of mine as a child, and it's not in my top 10 Samantha outfits now, but it is still a pretty outfit and deserves an A from me! Mod edit to remove deleted image links

This dress is so pretty. I was very surprised to discover when I got it that the collar is removeable.

A friend has this and to be honest I'm not fond of it at all. It's just white with a lacy edged collar and the only real details are some pink ribbon and a pink rosette. The fabric is really thin as well. An easy pass for my collection.
