I really love this set! It is light and breezy and fresh in it's colours and details. The duster is made from a light soft sueded cotton fabric. Like a great pair of chino's. It is set for a double breasted look. It snaps to close. The sleeves have a slightpuff at the shoulder than drop to the wrists and have a rolled cuff with a matching button from the front of the coat.



The scarf and hat are lovely. The scarf is an embroidered ribbon just long enough to tie and tuck into her jacket. The hat is OK but made of a kind of foam. I have no idea how to explain it. I like the set alto. The hat is a little weird but still pretty with it's taffeta ribbon and brooch.



I just don't know if I do the outfit justice in my pictures.

I love the coat. The material is soft and lightweight but warm for a cool spring day or those ocean breezes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the buttons actually snap- no velcro! I find the parasol TOO large and Sam can't hold it because it's too heavy. The hat is pretty but the flat sided brim looks strange to modern eyes. The hat is a little small for my Samantha's head so she doesn't wear it. The scarf is pretty but embroidered on only one side and it's too small to really knot and doesn't lie flat. Overall grade A-

I wasn't sure, but is the hat supposed to flip up on the side? I thought it did this because it was in a box that was too small... so I've been trying to flatten it since I got this set...

I like it a lot though... I'm a little disappointed the scarf isn't an actual scarf...its just a piece of ribbon... but other than that, I love the colors and the ladylike simplicity.

I love that its Victorian and elegant but without being gaudy (like the ugly bridesmaid dress)

Yep, hat is suppose to sit up like that. I had mine turned to the side but from the actual images form AG I guess the upturned side is suppose to be in the front. ooops. My bad.

One of the best Samantha outfits ever.

The colors of the scarf are less vivid in real life, but it is really cute. I was nine when I got this, and it has stayed in great condition, so I'd say it's pretty play-able.

The hat is the same material as her meet hat. Like velvet on foam. The brooch thingy is real metal and I remember thinking it looked like something a princess would have--makes me think of A Roman Holiday.

The coat is really nice. It goes over most of her outfits well without looking bulky. The buttons are faux tortiseshell. Samantha could wear it while riding in the car with Uncle Gard so she doesn't get dusty. It's lighter than a winter coat so she can wear it March-May. This outfit looks good with her meet outfit, talent show outfit, tea lesson outfit, cranberry party outfit, Nellie's Christmas outfit, and anything with reds and/or pinks. The coat alone goes with just about anything, except maybe purple.

I just got mine today, and I'm actually not a fan of the coat or scarf. I love the style of the hat and the pretty pattern of the scarf, but the coat snaps make it look weird (unreal) open - the coat has to be worn closed - and the scarf's too short to be as versatile as a true scarf - you can only use it to tuck under outergarments. Is it that I don't know something about period clothing? I know Sam in the book uses the coat to keep dust off her clothing when in the automobile, but she also uses it on the ocean liner... One thing I like about outergarments is versatility in looks - you can create a layered look open or close it for a more linear silhouette - but I can't do that with either the coat or scarf. The scarf isn't long enough to throw half over a shouler or to fold or knot it.

Maybe it's just me?

Love this duster. Wasn't too fond of the hat, so luckily the set I got was hat-less, Samantha's meet hat fills in nicely. The duster is timeless, It looks great on her but could easily be stolen by a modern girl. The scarf is "eh" by itself, but tucked into the top of the duster it looks great.

Such a cute set! Looks great over a lot of outfits, and seems to fit the time period well. I don't have the hat, but her meet hat fits in nicely. The scarf looks really pretty tucked into the duster, but like others have said, it is really just a ribbon and not a full scarf that could be wrapped around. I love the pleated detail on the shoulder. The duster has real snaps too (no velcro!), which is very nice. Though it does look better closed, I think it doesn't look too bad open. See the last picture.
