This set was released in about 1988 and retired in 2001. After retirement, the ice skates were sold as a separate item from 2001 to 2008; additional reviews of the ice skates can be found HERE.
Whether inside or out, Samantha had plenty of wintertime fun in the city. She loved to put on her ice skates and go skating with Uncle Gard, or play with her French paper dolls during tea with Aunt Cornelia. Her favorite pastime of all was making lacy valentines. You can make three valentines just as Samantha did with your valentine kit.Winter Amusements $18 SWAF Grade: B The set is rather nice and pulled together from a bunch of outsources, non-PC providers. I was lucky to get this in a huge lot for Samantha including her trunk and a white bodied doll. It is fragile and really cute. The valentines come in a pink envelope: They include, little flower shaped doilies, 6 heart shapes valentines, gold cord, white string, 50 inches of pink ribbon, heart, flower and cupid stickers, and little heart confetti. Then included in the set was also her paper dolls that came in this envelope: Inside was her paperdolls from the edwardian era. Pretty darn cute. The set is nice but what I really like the best is her skates which I have yet to photograph.

This was one set that always irked me--most of the components are paper, and the paper dolls are a little off (from 1908, not 1906--minor detail). I have the skates and the valentines that come with the Spring Party dress--I'm happy with that.

I just got an incomplete set of this today, the paper dolls and an incomplete valentines set. The paper dolls are adorable, all the detailed little pieces. I love paper dolls and I love little things so this set is great. The valentines are nice. I'm missing the heart valentines, the gold cord, white string and confetti. I also have different stickers than Sail-Away. One of my cupids is the same and the other two are different, the smaller heart stickers look to be the other half of the sheets she has and I've only got the yellow rose left. However incomplete as they are, the set is lovely and I'm looking forward to making valentines for my dolls. I'd give the parts I have a B, the only changes I'd have liked in the set would have been making the dresses for the paper doll out of paper and not cardstock (less durable but easier to dress the doll) and including one full sheet of the heart stickers instead of two half sheets with the valentines.

Such a sweet set! I love the little valentines that Samantha can make. They look a lot like the antique Victorian scrap I have. The ice skates are well made of metal.
