Accessories $20 SMA Grade: A The accessories are just adorable and dainty! I love all the textures of the ribbons and cording on the velvet hat! Her little pink velvet purse is fully lined and closes with a brass clasp. It has a golden chain strap. Included is also a small embroidered handkerchief. She also have her heart locket on a pin. Her small Indian head penny is also included.

My sister managed to lose the real penny and the pictures of her mom and dad. I got them as a replacement part and was disapointed the replacement penny is a reproduction and it didn't come with any historical background information.

Sam's accessories were the first thing I bought as an adult. (And so an obsession game back to life.) I love the entire outfit. The new sets don't have the real Indianhead penny, but they do have the pictures of Sam's parents to cut out and paste in the locket.
Has anyone else noticed that the hat goes with Sam's talent show outfit? I love mixing and matching!

My accessories set didn't include the hanky, so I won't be touching on that. The little purse is cute, and the penny is nice enough. I tried getting the locket on her dress, but I was having some difficulties and didn't want to get little holes everywhere, so I haven't messed with that in awhile. Now that hat. I love the hat. My dolls can just never have enough hats. A-

My sister got his last year and its really nice. The only problem she has is w/ the locket. Hers doesn't snap close. Does anyone else has this problem? I have Molly's locket that I got back in '95 and hers is fine. Should we try to get Sam's replaced?

This is a really nice set. Hat: Velvet on foam base. Ribbons are high quality, but the pink ones can snag easily. Do not allow a dog who likes to chew around this--they will eat it.
Locket: Very nice piece. The pictures are nice for doll ones and the tiny locket design is really pretty.
Handkerchief: Lovely embroidery on thin cotton, but that works for the scale. It can also be used as a doll's doll blanket or as a napkin.
Penny: Out of scale, but all right.
Purse: OK quality, but very versatile and fits lots of things. The inside is silk lined and the metal is brass. The outside is cheap 'velvet'.
Grade: ****3/4 A-

I have had the locket pinned on Sam's Meet Dress since receiving her for Christmas 2005. It has darkened with time and doesn't seem to really shine up. I don't suppose we can expect too much as it isn't real gold. But it is worth mentioning that it doesn't stay shiny.

My Sam came off eBay, and while the doll itself is PM, I am not sure about anything that came with her being original to the doll. That said, I'm not sure whether I am reviewing PM accessories, Mattel accessories, or a combination of the two. I have never been especially thrilled with any of the historical accessories, especially for the price. While I do consider Sam's to be one of the better accessory lots, it still has some issues. It gets a B from me because... Hat: It is adorable and goes with many of Sam's outfits (and other dolls), but gets fuzzies stuck to it quite easily, and the circular piece of ribbon does not stay around the rim of the hat well; it often ends up tangled in back with the other ribbons or you end up jamming it into place on top of the hat, causing the little fringe-loops to get tucked in. The ribbons that hang behind fray easily and the darker felt ones turn dirty-looking quickly. Locket: Beautiful, no problems with it for me. Mine didn't come with photographs inside though, wish it had. I don't like pinning it on dresses because it leaves little holes. Would be nice if it was some other kind of snap-on. Penny: Never seen the point of these, since they are human-sized. I think I have an original one though, why they would switch over to replicas is beyond me. Purse: Maybe because it's old (I think this piece of my accessories is PM), but the chain snapped almost as soon as I got it, and I am gentle with my collection. Maybe I could send it in for repair or have my dad fix it...Otherwise it's nice, but like someone else said it's that very cheap, thin faux-velvet material. Hanky: Nice but a bit big. The design is lovely, but I think mine is not PM and I'd rather my whole set have been PM. Not AG's fault though, but me buying on eBay. Edited to add hanky. Like I said, overall B from me.

I’ve been meaning to add a comparison of two of Samantha’s lockets for a long time and just got around to doing it. The first one, locket A, came with her accessories straight from AG. The second one, locket B, I ordered as a replacement part because I wasn’t satisfied with locket A. They were hard to photograph because of the glare, but I did the best I could to capture the differences. Locket AIt is much darker than locket B. It’s more of a brassy color. This locket does not snap close. It came on a card marked American Girl. The heart and leaf design is not as defined and can be seen on the inside of the locket. The link between the brooch and the locket appears to be a little shorter. There’s a bigger space between the pin and the brooch, which causes it to hang forward instead of flat against the dress. The pin on locket A closes on the doll’s right. Locket B This one is a lighter, golden color. It’s hard to see the difference in photos. You can actually hear this one snap together when closed. The design is much more defined than Locket A. You can’t see the design on the inside of the locket. There is just a smooth surface. I already pasted Sam’s pictures inside so there’s no pic of this. There’s less space between the pin and the brooch. It hangs flat against Samantha’s dress. The pin on this locket closes on the doll’s left. This one came on a card marked Pleasant Company. Locket A on the left(Grade F-), Locket B on the right(Grade A)

The hat and the purse are my favorite pieces from the meet accessories. The locket completes the meet dress, the dress looks like it's missing something without it. The hat is such a lovely shade of wine, it look so beautiful against Sam's dark hair.

Cute, a full set of accessories. Although I don't like how the hat doesn't sit well on her head.

Looks great with her meet outfit, which looks a little plain otherwise. The hat also goes with some of her other collection, such as the talent dress and duster. comparison of meet handkerchief on right, with the one from the tea tin lunch set on left.
