I absolutely love her! A+!
As one of the new collectors, the difference between pre-mattel and mattel is lost on me. All I know is that I saw this adorable doll in a catalog and I wanted her! I never imagined I would get her...and then more AG dolls afterward, but out of all of them she is my favorite. I love the time period that her clothes reflect and her stories!

my grade: A+
I just love love love the Mattel Samantha! I have both my 2007 Mattel Sam here along with my cousin's pre-mattel Samantha, and I really like the Mattel one better. She looks nicer in the dress, her hair is less tempermental, and the face paint really does help Sam look better. Mine has hair that is pretty curly, but like Lindsey's the curl just seems to stick and hasn't gone flat yet.
My only complaint with Samantha (and this extends to Addy and Nellie as well) is that her collection isn't as versatile as Josefina's or Kit's. Its just a case of buying outfit after outfit and only the shoes and socks and underwear set are interchangeable.

I picked out my Mattel Samantha (my first Sam) at AGPNY in July 2004, and I was thrilled at the time because I'd always wanted a Sam. She was (and still is) pretty with her light brown eyes and wavy brown hair, but I don't think she even compares to a PM Samantha. Maybe it's her lighter eyes, but she doesn't have that special somber (I guess is the word) look that so many PM Samanthas have. She's cute; I'm just super picky!

My Samantha is from 2001 and has the grayish cast to her skin...ugh. However, I wouldn't exchange her for another because she has a shorter and more fluffyfull body. I can't make a good general review because of the nature of the 2001 dolls, but I'll review the version I have: Meet outfit: Very cute. My tights are PM but have a hole in them now so bye bye retail value. They are thick and have lace trim at the top. The bloomers are marked AG. They are poufy and can be worn by My Twinns if needed. The dress and ribbon are thin material but ok, and the little ring on them is plastic. Overall grade: A for cuteness, B for quality but the tights bring it up to B+. Hair: It frizzed quite easily and was rather dry. C Vinyl: Smaller limbs are a plus for my character, but the grayish cast I dislike. B- Face & eyes: Very cute and utterly adorable. I love her! A++

Samantha is a classic doll and to me she is more of value because she is my very first doll. She is pretty but certainly not as much as the other dolls. The only thing that bothers me is her bangs are a little long I have to trim it so it doesn't get in her eyes. Overall though an B+.

I received Samantha in the fall of 2008, and she is my favorite doll. She has silky hair and a full wig cap, and her curls have stayed in well. She is the cutest doll ever and the only one I collect for.

I got my Samantha in August for my birthday, and she is so gorgeous. Her hair is really soft, and unlike some dolls, she looks just like her pictures. She's absolutely stunning. I like her outfit a lot too, but I won't go into detail since there's a seperate thread for that. Doll : A+++ Book : A- (Her hair is a little frizzy at the moment, but that's my fault )

I ordered my Samantha a few weeks ago, and I love her! My dad has the camera and I can't find my cell phone, so I don't have any pics! She's one of the prettiest dolls I've ever seen! Her face is so sweet, and I love her dark brown eyes, especially with her bangs. Her hair is so beautiful and curly, and, ironically a lot more like mine than I thought Ruthie's would be. Her bangs are a little crooked, but that only endears her to me more! Right after I got her out of the box, I decided that she was destined to stay a Historical, joining Lucy and Emily as my stay-in-era girls. I love her so much that I might have to buy another off of eBay to make modern! A+ ETA 10/4/20: picture! (12 years later) http://instagram.com/p/CD3tAs9MmK8

My daughter received her Samantha for Christmas last weekend. Samantha is a beautiful doll. Her hair is thick and attached well.
My one hesitation is her meet dress quality in relation to the meet outfits we have of other dolls. Sam's is rather thin and "cheap" looking compared to Nellie's, Julie's, and even are JLY and LE's.

Back when I was first into AG (mid-late 1990s), Samantha was my third favorite historical. I love her books and collection. I got my own Samantha Noelle Parkington for Christmas in 2008 (my dad ordered her in September, soon after the first buzz of the archival). She is a beautiful doll! My mom has a PM Samantha, that I got from ebay, cleaned up and gave her, and although both Sams look quite different, they're both wonderful dolls. I do like the eye-color on the PM Sams more though. I did have a little bit of bonding issues when I first got my Sam, probably mostly because I play with my mom's quite a bit. After a couple months I changed Sam's hair to be a side-ways half pony, like on the old cover and first chapter of Meet Samantha and she's adorable with that style. I also had put mine into her nightgown before my mom put her Sam into her nightgown, and that helped, too. She gets an A from me! mod edit to remove broken image link

A+ I ordered my Samantha in the nick of time right before she became unavailable. After a long backorder, she arrived in April 2009. She is absolutely adorable. (I made this dress following a tutorial agseamstress created for Samantha's Play Dress. The fabric is from a thrift store men's shirt. Sorry the apron looks funky in the pictures. It got a little wrinkled en route to the pretty spot where I took them.) mod edit to remove broken images

I love my Samantha! She was my second doll and I received her for my 11th birthday in 2005. She has such a sweet expression and a nice complexion - pale skin with dark features, just like me! The only complaint I have is that her hair can be somewhat had to take care of, so I recommend her for adult/older collectors and not young children. Also, I love her meet dress and its vibrant colors. I dislike how many of her outfits are pale/pastel/pink, but I can live with that. (I have all but two of the outfits ever produced for her - the Velvet dress and the Winter Party outfit). Grade A for sure!

I have a PM white-bodied Samantha, but I bought my daughter a Mattel Samantha to save for her when she's older (of course I may take her out of the box and play with her myself too ). Anyway, she's a gorgeous doll. Its such a shame they retired her. The mattel version of ours has darker hair and slightly darker eyes, and more face coloring. She's very sweet looking and her curls are gorgeous! Here are some pics of the mattel Samantha and a comparison pic with my (well loved, 20 year old) PM Samantha. mod edit to remove broken image link

Samantha has and always will be my favorite doll! She was the first one I got and the only one who I "collect" for. I have the WG version of her from 1986 NIB, and one other pre-mattel white bodied Samantha who I still play "dress-up" with. Her hair is just so beautiful and I really sympathize with her story as she and I were raised under similar circumstances. I thought her meet outfit was beautiful and suited her beautifully. I like the simplicity of her outfit but I did notice some changed in her appearance or more specifically her meet dresses appearance. The fabric is thinner and the checkered pattern is more pronounced, I much preferred the way it used to be, also their are obvious changes to her face mold and the newest version has an almost "Jess like" look. It's to bad really, she was much prettier IMO before Mattel changed her appearance. Grade:A+

I love Samantha! Her hair is very easy to maintain with simple finger-curling. Her decal eyes are very unique and beautiful! She is very photogenic and I love the look of her next to #25. Samantha also works well as a modern girl, which is who she is in my family.

I found my Destiny at a thrift store and after checking her out, I believe she was made and sold around the time she was retired/archived/what ever. I had to do her hair because it was dry and still in it's original half pony. She looked so much like my former #13 that I named her after her and she sorta fell into the old Destiny's place - it's like she never left me. Although she's light skinned, she seemed sorta tan to me with her hair and eyes - which I love by the way. She is just the cutest I've seen as a brown eyed/hair doll.
A++

Samantha was the last doll I got before I went on doll-buying hiatus. I purchased her at AGPC in 2004 with my own money that I earned having a fun fair for kids in my neighborhood. Ain't she a beauty? I love her to pieces. And her condition is great. Her hair has maintained its curl after all these years. Her light skin contrasts with the dark hair, making for a striking, yet eye-pleasing combination.

A+ I absolutely love Samantha! She's a beautiful doll, and obviously a classic. It's not surprising why so many people love her. I received her Christmas 2004. Her hair has a beautiful loose curl to it that is elegant and easy to maintain. She's well made, and has a beautiful meet outfit. It really ties in well with her hair, eyes and skin tone. She looks good in a large variety of clothing and works well in period as well as modern clothes.
