Released in 2000, retired in 2014 with release of revamped BeForever version of Kit. A Special Edition Birthday Collection version was released in 2023, which was a throwback to the original Mattel version, in honor of Kit's 100th birthday.
Your Kit doll arrives dressed in a lilac sweater set and floral linen skirt, with white cotton underwear and white sandals. Kit is 18 inches tall and has a huggable, soft body with arms and legs you can pose. Her bright blue eyes open and close, and she has a sprinkling of freckles across her nose! Pull her shoulder-length blond hair off her forehead with a barrette in a double-diamond shape.
Kit Doll & Book $87 QDP Kit Doll & Paperback Book
Grade A+
This set includes the 18" Kit doll, her beautiful meet outfit which consists of a lavender sweater set, a pleated skirt, cotton undies, and white canvas sandals. The book "Meet Kit" is also included. Kit is a wonderful doll. I believe Kit would make a very good choice for any young girls' first doll because her cute bob haircut is so easy to care for.
Kit is absolutely adorable with her deep blue eyes and her pretty freckled face. Kit's eyes are a deep, beautiful, almost aqua shade of blue.
Kit's blonde bob is shiny and full of body and bounce. When you brush it, it just springs right back into place. She can wear hats well without messing up her pretty hair-do.
My Kit's hair really does not seem long enough to try any different hairstyles, so if styling hair is very important to you, you may want to consider another doll.
"Meet Kit" is a great book, but you should really read her entire collection to get a good feel for her character.
I love that her books are set during the 1930's. My Grandma was Kit's age in the 1930's too. I love to compare notes with my Grandma. According to Grandma, life was a lot different in the deep south during the depression.
Kit has a lot of lessons to teach, and her books are well worth reading, which just makes the Kit doll all the more lovable. ______________
I am fortunate enough to have a new Kit (2005) and an older Kit. (2000-2001?- Thank you Denise)
The newer Kit has much harder vinyl with a very matte feel.
The older Kit has softer vinyl with a smoother feel to it. The newer Kit has slightly longer hair. Her face also seems longer, but I am sure this is just an illusion due to the hair.
I love both of my Kits. You can not go wrong with either one.

I love my Kit! I got Kit when she was first introduced, and I can definitely say that Kit dolls look different now! Although I love my Kit doll, she has a grey skin tone and her face mold looks slightly different than other Mattel dolls. I think if I had a choice between the two, I would prefer the new Kit dolls instead, simply for the peachy tone to their skin. When I originally recieved Kit, the first doll I recieved had one leg shorter than the other. Upon exchanging the doll for another, I noticed in that short of a time the material in her outfit was much different. The first doll had a much nicer cardigan set, while the other seemed cheaply made. I'm not sure if that is how they are made now, or it's simply because of which factory the outfit came from. But, either way Kit drew me in because she was so different from any of the dolls AG had come out with at that point. For anyone considering purchasing Kit, I say go for it! You will not regret buying this doll!

My Kit arrived Christmas 2000, after I had been asking for her all throughout the fall. I knew that I had to welcome the cute, short-haired American Girl doll into my family because she had a great time period, a great collection, and FRECKLES. GRADE: A++++

I love my Kit dearly. Her eyes are just gorgeous and her freckles are adorable. Her hair is also very pretty and it is very easy to care for. I love her meet outfit! I think it is so cute and one of my favorite AG outfits.
I give her an A+ and if you are thinking of getting her, don't hesitate because you won't be disappointed!!

One of the things that really makes me go "bleh" about Kit - as cute as she is - is that she lacks the short hairs in back of her head. So when you give her pigtails, she's got the weird wig-hair and I hate that look, especially when she's so adorable from the front with them.

I love Kit! She is certainly one of my favourite dolls. I got mine when she was first released for Christmas in 2000. She's an adorable doll and her stories are really wonderful and I like that she has a nice different look to her. I feel like my Kit just has a great personality whenever I see her, if that makes sense. Her hair is short, which may not prove for much styling. I've never actually tried to style it, but I think Kit looks great with it down. The colour is especially pretty and her hair is soft and I was surprised how thick it is. Kit's eyes are also a really beautiful blue. All-in-all, very adorable. A+ I can see her making many little girls happy over the years and Kit really does look great in so many different outfits!

I absolutley adore my Kit! She joined my doll family May 30, 2008! A close-up! She has very defined face paint. Full veiw with sweater! Isn't she adorable? Full veiw without sweater! Ravishing! The awesome sandles! Very good AG! They put snaps instead of velcro which would have snagged the sweater terribly! Kit's undergarmets! From what I here they are the same as Molly's. Kit and Nellie eye comparison! In person their eyes are exactly the same. Kit and Amanda(#23) eye comparison. As you can see Amanda's eyes are lighter. Overall: I give Kit an A+. I see nothing that can be improved! Though I must warn you when you first get Kit her hair seems too short but, you get used to it and learn to love it.

I LOVE my Kit, she's a sweet looking doll! My Kit's hair is longer in the front on one side then the other, and it's very noticable with her hair down from the elastic that she comes with, Is it normal for there to be such a big difference? If it is normal, then does anyone know why?

I picked out my Kit on May 6th, 08 at AGPNY; I had planned for a little over a year that she would be the doll I got when I went to AGPNY. My grandma's name is Margaret as well as one of my friends and my grandparents grew up in the thirties, so Kit had to join the others here. She is very pretty and her short hair adds a nice variety (it especially did when she was first released). I also like that she has dark blue eyes and the freckles add a nice touch. Kit's outfit is nicely made with the snaps, hook and eye and zipper. It is also versatile (My Kit is wearing her overalls outfit with the sweater on over that, like in a scene (or a couple) from her movie). It's nice colors on her, too. The barrette is adorable although it should definitely be kept out of reach of very young children and mischieveous pets. Overall I give Kit and A+! Her first picture Susie and Kit (in case anyone wants a comparison of #24 and Kit- I got Susie Christmas 2005). Mine are cousins.

I'm not sure when they starting making the front of the one side a tad longer; the older Kits don't have it but the newer ones do.

^^ Farmhouse Girl, you have a very sweet Kit! My sister received her Kit in 2007, so she is a super Mattel girl. Her face is slightly flatter than 2004 Kirsten and has American Girl stamped on the neck. Her body has the v-shaped insert and is also quite thin and loosely stuffed; you can actually bend her in half! She also has the newer, longer limbs, which I'm not to crazy about but they do make Kit look wiry! Our Kit is not grayish at all, but her skin is more golden-toned than our other Mattel girls. She has the larger, darker freckles. I love Kit's deep blue eyes, they really suit her and look nice with the black lashes, even though she has blond hair. Her hair is very shiny, and has a more yellow cast than Kirsten's wheat-colord blond. Kit's facepaint seems a bit much, it looks like she's wearing lipstick sometimes; a little less would have been nice to suit Kit's tomboyish character. She's very sweet at heart, even if she is the conman in our house. Now she just needs to go wipe that facepaint off. AKit and Kirsten, for comparison purposes:

I recieved Kit for Christmas 2008 from my husband. She was so sweet. My poor girl had some awful wig issues - the worst part being that only the edges of her wig were glued down - so every time I brushed her hair, the brush would get caught in her netting. I was afraid her wig would rip eventually. I went to AGMOA yesterday and sifted through their Kits, to find one with a good wig. I was very impressed that I was albe to find one with no lumps, good glue and thick. However, when I got her home and took out her pony tail, I discovered that the hair in the pony was a good 2" longer than her other hair. I was very disappointed! I decided that rather than exchange her again, I would just give her a hair cut. Overall, I still give Kit an A. I love her character and all of her stories, which really adds to her appeal. I would have enjoyed her more, if she wouldn't have had the wig issues though. D~ *mod edit to remove dead images*

Kit is such a cutie! There is something about her blond, bob hair cut, dark blue eyes, and freckles that is just so adorable! She is a very pretty doll. Her stories are great, and I love her collection of outfits. She is probably my favorite historical doll that I have. Her meet outfit is great. It can be used for lots of mix and matches in my opinion. I love Kit!!! I give her an A+

Kit is a BEAUTIFUL doll I purchased myself at the AGPLA. I'm not very fond of her wig, one side is longer than the other. She came with a stain on her leg and a loose arm. She also had stuffing oozing out of her. I didn't return her - I had already attached to her. I give her an A-.

Kit is gorgeous--little sis got her for Christmas and I'm in love with her! Her hair is SO cute and silky, extremely shiny, and easy to keep neat (just a quick brush through, and you're done!) It obviously wasn't meant for many hairstyles though, the short little hairs covering her wig cap look awful when you put her hair in pigtails or something. The left side of her wig *is* longer than the right--but that's so it'll curl around her chin and look really cute. It's easy to fix it that way.
Her eyes are beautiful--a deep blue, much prettier than AG's regular blue eyes. Her lashes are hard black plastic, which was disappointing, but her freckles are so adorable they make up for it.
I can't say much more about the doll, except she looks gorgeous in virtually any outfit! My review of her meet outfit is posted in the Meet Outfit thread.

I bought Kit from a fellow board member. All in all, she's a very sweet looking doll. I love her freckles and light blonde hair. She looks so child-like and innocent, but at the same time she looks smart like she is always thinking of something. If you love to style doll hair, Kit isn't your girl. Her hair is very short and low-maintenance, but it's shiny and so full of bounce! She hasn't got the short hairs to cover her wig cap, unfortunately, but her hair isn't very style-able anyways. I like her hair pulled up on one side or just down. As you can see, it's more of a golden colour that my Elizabeth's. I love her eyes, too! They're a darker shade of blue than my Elizabeth and JLY #7's eyes. They give her so much personality. I give Kit a solid A. I'd recommend miss Kit to anybody who's on the fence about getting her.

I got Kit as my first doll and I hated the way her hair was longer on one side because on the American Girl website it looks even. My mom then showed me a picture of my great grandmother from the late 20s, all the girls in the photo had lopsided bobs! I am going to have to give AG points for historical accuracy. The only thing I don't like about Kit is her hair gets very bad flyaways. Her meet outfit already has a lot of snags in the sweater set and I have only had her for a few months. I really love her shoes because they can be used with lots of outfits and even look somewhat modern.

Love Kit. There's nothing to say, she's just wonderful. I'd recommend her to anyone, not just little ones who are bad with hair.

Kit sure is a cutie. She's from 2008, right after the movie release. Her hair is so soft and cute, and she's definitely broken the "pretty blonde princess" rule. Her freckles look very adorable with those dark blue eyes. My only complaints are her long section of hair in the front, and that her look pretty much stays the same because of her unstylable hair.
Overall, a B+ for Kit, but she's still very cute and a great first doll for a little kid.

I love Kit. I find her hair easy to take care of, but rather easy to mess up too, if you're not careful. Mine is a 2009 doll. I love her deep blue eyes, and freckles. She and her meet outfit hold up very well. The only items that haven't held up well are her sandals, and they are just fraying a little. She looks good in most colors. My least favorite colors on her are pink and yellow. I give Kit an A++++++!

I give Kit an A. She's a gorgeous doll with lots of fun outfits and accessories. The one drawback is you can't do much with her hair. In some ways though her short hair works to her advantage, as it is easier to take care of. Her books are very well written and give a great view of the depression and she can be especially helpful for a girl going through hard times. I got Kit for Christmas 2000 when I was 9 and she's still a beloved member of my doll family.

Kit Kittredge is the perfect American girl doll for a young girl, she is easier to take care of because of her hair and her story is really quite moving especially when taken in context. I received my Kit in October of 2009 as a gift from my boyfriend (he got me both Kit and Ruthie simultaneously). I have to say I was surprised because I though he would assume it was childish to collect dolls, his reaction was quite the opposite he saw them as not only a good investment but encouraged me to further my collection because he could tell I loved these dolls. Needless to say Kit and Ruthie hold a very special place in my heart, because they were given as a gift from someone special and because I learned that collecting dolls as an adult and playing with dolls as a child truly are two separate entities (and yes we are still together). Grade: A (I reserve the + for my absolute favorites)
