*Kit wore this outfit in Meet Kit and in the DVD Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. She wore the skirt in the short story "Kit's Winning Ways. The Sweater is also shown in Happy Birthday, Kit!* Released at Kit's debut in 2000, retired with BeForever rebranding in Fall 2014, reemerged with Kit's Birthday Collection doll in April 2023.
Your Kit doll arrives dressed in a lilac sweater set and floral linen skirt, with white cotton underwear and white sandals.
Kit's Meet Outfit
Grade A+
This set includes a shortsleeved sweater with a matching long sleeved button up sweater, a lovely feedsack print pleated skirt, her white cotton undies, and her cream colored canvas sandals.
I think Kit has the prettiest meet outfit of them all. I love the sweater set, it is so pretty and really well made. The short sleeved sweater fastens in the back with metal snaps, so there is no velcro to damage the sweater. The top sweater has sweet little buttons down the front. This sweater set is a lovely shade of lavender.
The skirt is terrific.I love the print on the fabric. It is much prettier in person than it appears in the pictures.
The little panties are really cute, they have gathered leg openings.
The canvas sandals are really sweet, and the would work well with almost any of Kit's outfits.
I give this set an A+

I also give this set an A+. I was thrilled that they put snaps and buttons on the sweater instead of velcro. I'm sure this has saved many a snagged sweater. I love everything about this outfit!

Kit's meet outfit is indeed beautiful. Very nicely made, very attractive, and I'm glad the makers decided to use buttons instead of Velcro. Sometimes I just hate Velcro because it snags on fabric as well as doll hair!
Everything is adorable in this ensemble. My only complaint is that the barrette is a little flimsy, but that's not a huge problem.
Grade: A+!

I love her meet outfit! It is so pretty and totally form the time period! I love the colours. My daughters great grandmother showed my some old photo's from her as a young woman in that era. The style was totally befitting the era. I love the pleats and the t-strap shoes made of twill and not leather. I am guessing the leather would have been expensive.

I love Kit's meet outfit! I think it's one of the most well made outfits that I have from AG. The lavender looks very nice on Kit and other dolls and the colours in the skirt are great. I was especially pleased to see a hook and eye and a nice zipper on the skirt. The snaps and buttons on the top are really wonderful as well. Her t-strap shoes are great as well and really cute! I think they can well with a number of other oufits and they're nice and neutral. They're pretty well made and easy to put on. It's a great outfit for younger kids and can be mixed and match with other items. All-in-all, A+!

This is the best meet outfit of them all in terms of quality and construction. The sweaters have real buttons and snaps and her skirt is made from thick material, lined and closes with a zipper and a hook and eye. Very impressive! Her barrette is plastic and could probably break easily. The only disappointment is that her shoes velcro. Grade: A

The only disappointment is that her shoes velcro. My Kit from 2001 has real working buckles on her meet shoes. They must have changed.

This is a nicely made, historically-accurate set, but ironically, it doesn't seem to suit Kit very well. It seems too girly and also very season specific, unlike the other girls' outfits. Oh well, here's the review:
The sweater set - made of a lavender-pink, this set is very soft and comfortable feeling! I like how the pieces look nice separately, too. It is made of a very fine weave, slick nylon yarn. The short-sleeve sweater snaps up the back with square metal snaps and won't snag the cardigan. The cardigan is a very mix-and-matchable piece that really buttons. A
The skirt - I like the 30's pattern on the skirt, and it feels like linen. I also am glad that it zips, it seems so much more finished that way. The fabric is thin but summery and matches well with the sweater. My only problem is that the pleats are only pressed, not sewn, and the skirt tends to want to "unfold". It seems like they didn't use enough fabric and that it's not swingy enough, either. B
The undies - These are bloomer-like underpants that are made of thin white cotton with elastic in the waist and leg openings. They can go with several outfits but will occasionally cause her skirts to blouse out. B
The shoes - The shoes are very cute but are made of real fabric, so I could see them easily staining. Also, the edges have begun to fray which does not look too hot, but it is also probably realistic for a Depression-Era girl. We got this set in 2007 and the shoes do velcro under a faux-buckle, which I don't mind because it still looks fine. A-
The barrette - I'm so glad they included this, Kit wears this all the time in her books. I wish the plastic weren't transparent and that it wasn't so yellow! I would have preferred a kelly green, opaque plastic the way it looks in the books. It actually seems pretty sturdy to me, though (unless you stepped on it or something), and it holds a lot of hair. My little sis got Kit for Christmas and I was impressed with her meet outfit. No qualms about quality with this one--it's super nice. The Sweater Set: the lavender sweater is very pretty and has a nice feel, no acrylic here. It looks warm and actually buttons up the front with little white plastic buttons. The sweater blouse underneath is short-sleeved and fastens with metal snaps all the way up the back, no velcro! Yay! The Skirt: the skirt is made from a thick weave cotton in a cute floral print. The pleats are pressed, not sewn. Our Kit's pleats were a little messed up from lying in the box, I'm going to have to re-press them. The skirt fastens with a metal zipper and a hook & eye at the top. The only thing I don't like about this skirt is that it seems too short--it hits a little above the knee, which I know was sometimes period correct to save on fabric back then--but it makes the skirt seem a little skimpy. Oh well, I can pretend Kit had a growth spurt and Mother doesn't have money for new clothes. The Sandals: very nice canvas sandals! The soles are rubbery and have a "gravel print" on the bottoms, like non-slip stuff on human shoes. The sandals have little metal buckles that don't work--they close with velcro, which is easier and less breakable for little hands. The Barrette: made from thick plastic, seems quite sturdy. Still afraid it might break though. I really wish it was made from metal, but it still holds hair quite well. The Undies: very nondescript, white cotton with elastic waist. They look like mini bloomers. Not sure how period correct these are, or if she would've worn anything else under her dresses (I think she would've). Overall: A+ from me for quality and aesthetics, as well as mix-&-match value!

There are some really awesome descriptions of this outfit here, but no pictures! I don't have Kit, but my partner got this outfit for Junie so she'd have something nice to wear when her grandmother takes her to church. I don't have the shoes or barrette, so she's wearing a pair of white tights and Emily's recital shoes. Front and back views. The skirt is nicely pleated the same way in the back and front: flat in the middle, with pleats going off in opposite directions on the sides. It's a nice floral pattern. The cardigan has a tendency to pull backwards at the sides and takes a bit of adjusting. I have here my best and least favorite things about this outfit. Best is, I love the zipper and hook-and-eye closure. It makes the skirt really easy to get on and is a nice piece of construction. My least favorite aspect is the snaps up the back. To fasten them you have to stretch the sweater out. Also, it means the back pulls open at the waist. I think it also contributes to some of the difficulty fitting the cardigan on. One other negative. I did receive this as a used item off eBay, and the sweater is quite worn out. But looking at pictures of other sets on eBay, I think that's common. My version is tagged Mattel, so I am really unimpressed that it's got so many pulls, pills and fluff. This is a nice, classic outfit that is quite nice overall. I'd give it a B.

I love Kit' meet outfit. It is one of the best ones out there. That said, I get sick of seeing the dolls in their meet outfits all of the time in the catalogs - so our dolls don't wear their meet outfits very often. As a matter of fact, I think this photo shoot was the first time our Kit has had hers on since I got her for Chrstmas over a year ago. Overall, I give this outfit an A+! D~

I got this on eBay for Molly and my modern doll Jessa to share. This sweet outfit is one of the most versatile AG makes, bar none. Because I got it second-hand, it didn't come with the shoes or the clip - Molly's wearing the shoes from Kit's yellow floral dress. While the sweater set does still snap and button, alas, my skirt comes with Velcro instead of a hook closure, which I would have preferred.
Everything else is great, though. The sweater and skirt are otherwise well-made and very soft, with no pulls or pills. The sweaters are a little tight on Molly, but she's a PM and this appears to be a Mattel version, probably fairly recent. The skirt is a comfortable linen and a very pretty pattern.

I like the outfit a lot. The skirt is very pretty as are the sweaters. Since there's a long sleeved one and a short sleeved one, Kit can wear it all year!

The Kit doll that I purchased off of ebay arrived today. I was pleasantly surprised that her meet skirt had a zipper & hook & eye closure on the skirt. I have purchased a Kit meet outfit for my DD a few weeks ago (so her doll could have a matching outfit to the mini Kit that she has) & that skirt has a velcro closure. Anyone know which skirt came first (i.e. zipper or velcro) and when AG changed it? I'm still new to the board & can't find the answer. Thanks!

Zipper , hook, and eye were first. It changed a while ago, maybe 3-5 years or so.
I have a Kit meet from 2002ish and it has the zipper.

I got my kit in 2007 and she had a Zipper, hook, and eye set, too! I didn't even know that they changed it to velcro until earlier this year.
