Kit wore a similar outfit in Kit Saves the Day and Kit’s Railway Adventure. The outfit is also worn in the short stories: "Kit's Winning Ways," "Kit's Home Run," and "Kit and Millie Ride Again." Additionally, Kit is shown wearing overalls in the book Happy Birthday, Kit! and the movie/DVD Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Released in 2001, retired in 2011.
Kit’s hand-me-down bib overalls and striped shirt help disguise her as a boy! Cover her head with a blue cap from her hobo friend Will.
Overalls Outfit $22 QAO
Grade A+
This set includes Kit's overalls, shirt and cap.
Love it! This outfit is cute in pictures, but even cuter in person.
The overalls are so perfect in every way. They are so detailed and realistic. The denim is thick enough to look real, but thin enough that it does not look bulky. The patch on the knee is a cute touch.
The striped shirt is very cute, and there is nice detail on this too.
The hat is a really nice shade of blue, and fits Kit well.
A + for another must have outfit.

My boyfriend is in love with all of Kit's Book 5 outfits and accessories, so he bought this for me. Kit's overalls outfit is so well-made. I was really impressed with all the little details on the overalls--the real pockets, the snaps for the shoulder snaps, and even the knee patch! I don't know if all the knee patches are the same for every overalls set, but I looked closely at mine. Apparently my patch was "cut" from a sack of granulated sugar from New Orleans, Louisiana. LOL! The shirt that comes with the outfit is very nice too, and it would be great for mixing and matching.

Pidgetgirl - I think the patched are from the same screenprinted fabric, but cut from different places. On mine, you can see some of the words, but nothing about NOLA. It's more like the one on Anna's set, but a lot more faded. As for other thoughts: I love how realistic the overalls are, with the pockets and shoulder straps and everything. I was afraid I wouldn't like the patch on the knee, but in person, it didn't bother me at all. I do have a few concerns about this set, though: -- The snaps for the shoulder straps were difficult to do/undo, though one was harder than the other. I always had problems with these things as a kid anyway, but that might be a concern. -- You can adjust the length of the shoulder straps, but they aren't sewn onto the sliding bars or anything, so you have to be careful or the strap might slide out all together! -- The velcro on the side, at the waist, doesn't work quite right on the left of my pair. The rough side is sewn down on only one side of it, and the free side got jammed under the fake button, or something. At any rate, it doesn't secure very well. I took a photo of it - it's not something to exchange the set for, but it might happen on someone else's and not be as minor a problem. -- I didn't realize it, but the cap is sewn to the brim in one spot, to maintain the floppy look. I thought that was weird. -- All the pockets on the overalls are real except for the one on the top with the flap. Also a bit weird, but understandable. -- I like that the shirt has velcro on the cuffs AND a pearlized button! Very cool. -- I don't like that the velcro on the front of the shirt only goes down partway, but the fact that it's on the front at all is awesome. I can see why the velcro would be short, though - any longer and it might be too bulky to wear with other jeans or shorts. - You can see how it was stitched down. - The underside - the edge was made to be contiguous under the brim, to help maintain the floppy look that way, too. - The patch, for comparison purposes. - You can see how my velcro doesn't secure all the way... - ... because it was jammed under the button/rivet thing. - Careful with the straps! --- KERI

Overall, this is a very cute and well made outfit. The tiny overalls are adorable and sturdy and I love the little sugar bag patch on them- so realistic! The shirt is very cute and well made as well, and the hat is a nice touch. I don't like it as much as some of Kit's other outfits, some of her dresses, because I don't think she would really be able to wear it much other than for the purpose it was used for in the story (it wouldn't really be accepted as everyday wear) but all in all very cute, and one of the few outfits that's more of a "cold weather outfit" of hers. I give the overalls an A-.

I got this outfit. The first thing I did was remove the patch. Which was rather easy. But the square was not as faded as the rest. Does not really show on pictures or from afar- you have to look rather closely.
Overalls are very nice and fit even the tallest of dolls. Straps were rather long when I received the set- and I bought it straight from AG. Will try to adjust them today. Otherwise, the overalls get an A.
Shirt has only one button and the rest velcroes. This can be either a pro or a con. A pro for little girls putting the outfit on a doll- but a con for a collector who wants something more authentic looking. I like the fabric and how it works for lighter colored dolls- like the one I bought the outfit for. B+ for the shirt.
I did not use the cap for Peter, but it is good. No issues with it. A.

I give this outfit an "A" because of its extraordinary detail, quality and workmanship. I haven't had any issues with my set. My dolls don't wear the hat much, but that's just personal preference. The hat is well-made and is a nice fabric. I love the fabric of the shirt, and the fact that it is more neutral colors than most AG clothes. Anything that's not more pink and purple is a plus in my book. But the hands-down winner in this whole set are the overalls - wow! Just superb detail, looks great on my dolls. They've worn it over shirts and sweaters and it accomodates both without looking baggy. The photo below shows Marina (#4) wearing the overalls and hat with a sweater in a sledding/snowboarding race vs. Coconut. Only Nellie knows who won, and she's not telling! (Thanks to Jolene for making it snow!) I'm very glad I got this set before it retires, and I think the overalls alone are worth the price.

Is the hat made too small on purpose? Or is there a quality issue?
I will not fit on Kits head whatsoever, I even tried it on Bitty since she has no hair, won't even fit her.

Aren't Bitty heads larger then AG heads?
I want to say mine's a bit snug, too, and is about 3 years old, so I do not think this is a new issue. I don't think it's supposed to, er, envelop her skull like a normal hat, if you look at the picture on the site, it's tilted and more like resting on her head (actually, with the picture, it looks photoshopped, and seems to lay farther down then mine does).
As one of the reviews on AG's site says, "The cap is so cute! I wasn't sure it was big enough at first, but it does fit on a doll's head if you work with it a bit. I tilt it slightly and it gives Kit a jaunty look."
It's up to you if it's worth calling about, but I think it's just a flaw in the design.

I got my set when it was released and the hat is snug as well. My Kit does go for the tilted look when she wears it. =)

I bought this set a couple years ago and the hat seems to fit fine on all my dolls. It is a little snug but that's okay.

I have the hat and it fits very poorly. It's very small and I have to yank rather rudely on it to get it on.
It sounds like it's really the luck of the draw with the hat.

Another one of my favorite Kit outfits! The bibs are so realisitic - all of hte pokets function - I love how her harmonica (from the Hobo Camp Supplies) fits in the tiny top pocket. The undershirt velcros and doesn't button - but I can over look that since it's under the bibs and you don't really see it. Our hat is a little weird and tight, but if I mess around with it a bit, I can get it to look OK. Overall, I still give this outfit an A+! D~

Kit's overall outfit is by far IMO one of her best outfits. I can find nothing wrong with this outfit at all. I give it an A+.

This outfit is very good quality. The denim seems very thick and sturdy, and the patch makes them look more authentic. I love how detailed the overalls are. They look like overalls for real people in doll size (As opposed to looking like doll clothes, if that even makes sense...) The shirt is nice, but I wish the buttons actually work instead of using velcro. My grade: A(No plus because of velcro)

I bought this outfit several years ago because I thought it would look great on Molly and it certainly does. The denim overalls are very well made. Thick and soft to the touch and nicely faded. Cute patch on the leg, pocket on the bib and metal snaps. The overalls can be matched with many other shirts and sweaters. The shirt is a nice length and can be worn tucked in or tucked out with other pieces. Really nice! The cap fits Molly perfectly and looks great with her hair in braids. The outfit really makes her grey eyes appear blue. This outfit looks great with Molly's saddle shoes. I give this outfit an A+ and totally recommend it.

This set contains overalls, a shirt and a hat, my mom got it from American Girl for her future Molly in August 2010. The overalls are wonderful, made of sturdy denim, all the pockets are real pockets and the hardware on the straps actually works. The shirt was a bit less awesome as there is thick regular velcro under the non-functional front buttons, but it is well made otherwise, although I don't care for the colours. The newsboy cap is a blue twill that is soft enough to be nicely slouchy and it looks good on a doll. We tried some mix-n-match and the overalls look cute with Molly's camp shirt & tie and all the AGP shirts I had. The shirt and hat look good with the AGP jeans. My mom's only complaint with the set is that the cap isn't denim, mine is that the legs on the overall weren't long enough to cuff like some pictures I've seen. The whole outfit looked cute on her Molly and my Felicity, but the shirt didn't look at all good on Kaya. A

I have loved this outfit for years, but was unwilling to pay the high prices that it typically goes for on ebay. I got lucky and found an adorable Kit who came with a few clothes for a fair price. She had these overalls, but not the rest of the outfit. Luckily we have some basic shirts and boots that look just fine with them.

This is one of my favorite outfits for Kit! I feel like it fits her tomboy personality perfectly.
The hat is slightly odd looking, but it goes on Kit's head just fine and it looks cute with the rest of the outfit.
The shirt is a nice basic button up shirt. It makes a nice mix and match piece that is more boyish in style.
The overalls are by far my favorite part of this set. They feel slightly weighty and the snaps work just like human sized overalls. They make another great mix and match piece.
This set gets a solid A.

I've been on a buying spree for my Kit since I've been finding so many great deals on older outfits. I'm so happy to add this one! Lily is going to be my model: Arrived perfect but the glue on one shoe gave out upon trying to dress her. So age is starting to get to it I guess, at least it's an easy fix!

I bought only the overalls for this outfit for a great price recently, and they're amazing! A wonderful, detailed little reproduction of human-sized overalls. They fit my chubby PM Molly perfectly, without being too snug, and look great with a variety of shirts. A++ quality, highly recommend.

This outfit is superb. The overalls are stitched just like human ones and have metal buckles and pockets. The little pocket on the front fits her harmonica perfectly. The blouse is well made and the hat is adorable.
