Skating Gear
Your American Girl is a little nervous as she slips off the skate guards on her new white ice skates and glides out onto the ice. Hand her a big bouquet of yellow roses when she finishes her routine!
Skates: These are your standard AG skates and like most AG skates, they have detailing on the toe pick to make it more realistic and the blade is metal. They are very similar to Mia's skates. I've had mine since they came out in 97 and I've never had any problems with them so I give these an A.
Skate Guards: White with a little black loop on the end that hooks onto the back of the blade. This broke off on mine and they don't stay on very well without it. The next skate guards I got were Mia's and I wasn't surprised they stopped putting the loop on them since mine broke off so easily. The newer skate guards definitely stay on better. Grade: B
Flowers: They are standard fake yellow roses. The paper is pretty and iridescent and the bow is a nice color too. These have not gotten smushed in over 10 years. The only thing I would change is maybe add something that would make it easier for the doll to hold the flowers. Grade: B+
Grade Overall: B+. I think it's a little overpriced even by today's standards. I would've liked to have gotten another accessory, maybe a medal or a skate bag.

The skates and the roses have both held up very well, and the skates are easy for a child to get on and off. They have a lot of play value. The set does feel skimpy, though. I would have preferred that AG drop the roses and combine the skates with the skating outfit. skydrive.live.com/?cid=A5D863D8658431F0&id=A5D863D8658431F0!613&sc=photos#cid=A5D863D8658431F0&id=A5D863D8658431F0!614&sc=photos
