This set is adorable and quite different from the new Mattel set. The nurse doll has long curly light brown hair and the arms cross in front. Also included is a snowglobe that comes with a wooden base. The base varies based on which year the set was purchased. Some sets came with the snowglobe with a dark brown base and a snowman. Some, like mine, came with a red painted wooden base and aa Santa. The nurse and snowglobe come in a cute cardboard box that has replica stamps, a postmark, and mailing label. Adorable and very well made.
There SEVERAL variations on Molly's Christmas accessories! Her doll and snowglobe have been changed a few times. The snow globe was either real glass or plastic depending on the season and it also came with either a Santa or a snowman inside and a red or dark stained base.
If I didn't already have the Pre-Mattel set, I would probably have given this set an A+. It is a cute set, but made with more plastic than the original. The nurse doll is cute. She has long brown hair and her arms go straight down. The snowglobe that is included contains a snowman and has a red plastic base. The box that these come in is still cardboard, but a heavier cardboard than the kind used for the newer boxes.

I received this as a Christmas gift in 2007. I have personally never seen the PM set, so I couldn't compare the quality. I do think the snow globe is a bit cheap looking, though. I would prefer the wooden base. This set is still really adorable, though, especially the doll and the box with Molly's dad's note on it! Molly is very happy to finally have a doll of her own! Here is a picture of her and Katharine spending time together.

I got this for Christmas, just before it was retired. Whew, that was close!
I mainly wanted it for Molly's doll. From pictures I've seen I like the look of the Mattel nurse doll better than the PC one. But I would have rather had the PC snow globe. The Mattel one looks a bit too modern. More like the Christmas snow globes that I had growing up in the '80s, not the '40s.
Here is one of the version's of Mollys retired Christmas Box.
The complete set consists of a cardboard shipping box with red and green tissue paper inside. There is supposed to be a piece of twine tied around the box.
Also, there is a nurse doll. Some of the nurse dolls have the red cross symbol on their hat, while others do not.
Lastly, there is a Christmas snow globe. This version is the early version with a GLASS globe and wooden base. According to my early Pleasant Co catalog, these snowglobes were only shipped during the summer months due to the risk of the glass shattering from the cold. During the winter months, Pleasant Co would substitute random items to take the place of the Snowglobe.
My particular snowglobe has a red base with a tiny red bow around it. There is a snowman inside.
This set is superb and really reflects the old Pleasant Co quality. I have both the older and newer sets and of course, this one is my favorite.
The doll is closer to the newest version accept her hair is curly and her arms are bent.
I wish it came with a letter from Molly's dad...and/or pictures...but beggars can't be choosers.
The overall scale of the package/box seems off to me, not that I would really know...
The snow globe seems way too big and out of scale for the doll, more like a mini snow-globe for a real girl. It is nearly impossible to refill the water...although I did manage finally by using a squirt bottle meant for melted chocolate (similiar to this one pics.livejournal.com/chubbypanda/pic/003rxr9s) and holding it as tightly against the snowglobe hole as possible (after using a needle nose plyer to unplug the hole)... remarkably though, when I recently pulled out the globe after it being away for 15 or so years, it was only 1/4 empty.
The main reason (as a 10 year-old) that I wanted this was for the nurse doll... I remember wishing the doll had the sleep-eyes. She is in really good condition and I don't think she got much play...although her shoes are missing at first I thought maybe she didn't come with shoes..but then I saw the above reviews and now I vaguely remember the shoes constantly falling off...I'll have to search my barbie bin up in the attic...
For the original $16 this seems like one of the better/most reasonable deals in terms of price/quality that AG has offered.
I'm not good with grading items, so I will let you decide based on what I wrote above and these images:
I am soooo excited! I have been searching for Molly's sleep-eyed nurse doll on eBay and the AG boards for YEARS now! Last week I came across one at a GREAT deal and now she's MINE! I'm so thrilled to own her!
Only problem is she's missing a shoe... Any thoughts on finding a replacement or another set?
Check out the pics compared to the version tagged 1986! (BTW: Her skin appears shiny/greasy, but she feels perfectly clean and doesn't look nearly so shiny in person)

Can anyone tell me if it is normal that my snow globe has "low" water? I think I have the Mattel version because even though her tag says PC, her arms are straight. The globe is the one with the red plastic base. The water doesn't cover the snowman's hat. I am curious if it came this way or evaporated over the years or something... there does not appear to be any evidence of a leak.
Also, the nurse doll has straight hair instead of curly hair, and though it is smooth it appears "layered" in the back- the top layer of hair is shorter than the layers underneath. Is this normal or has her hair been cut?
