This item was released in 1986, revised in 2006 (now included an additional throw pillow and rug), and retired in 2013 (when it was replaced by the yellow Bed & Bedding set).
First version: Sporty but soft, Molly’s bed has an upholstered headboard that matches the bedspread. Both are bright red corduroy with candy-striped trim. There’s a candy-striped pillow to top it off, and under the spread is a fluffy white mattress. No wonder Molly’s friends like to have sleepovers at her house!
Revised version: Decorate Molly and Emily’s room just as it would have been in 1944. The doll bed has an upholstered headboard that matches the bedspread. Both are bright red corduroy with candy-striped trim. There’s a soft white mattress, a candy-striped pillow, and a fringed throw pillow. The fringed rug is the perfect place for the two friends to sit while they page through Emily’s scrapbook. Includes trading cards.
Grade: B+
The Good: Molly's bed strongly resembles the pictures in the book and looks nice with the rest of her patriotic collection. There is plenty of room in the bed for Molly and it doesn't take up much space for storage. The candy cane striped trim really makes the bed stand out and is a cute detail. The pillow is made of the same candy came striped fabric as the trim, and is the perfect size for Molly. The old, wooden Pre-Mattel version of the bed is quite sturdy and doesn't come apart. However, we did lose one Molly bed when my toddler fell on top of it. I'm not sure about the new Mattel version. It is also quite neat that the screws are covered up by little corduroy covered buttons. Oh, this bed has a little bit of a nautical flair and works well for girl or boy dolls.
The Bad: I don't know what Pleasant or her designers were thinking when they made the bedding for this bed. The corduroy is "icky" feeling and the top of the bedspread Velcros to the mattress. Though it makes it easier for molly to make her bed, it looks kind of cheesy and Molly's hair sometimes sticks to the Velcro. the mattress is also quite thin, compared to the other girls' beds and doesn't have the same quality. Also, although the bed is easy to store, it only holds one doll and it doesn't fold down in anyway.
Overall, this bed is nice but isn't one of my favorite beds or Molly items. I probably wouldn't pay full price for this item.

I would fully agree with the above poster. I think they could of made a nicer bed for the price. I also would not pay full price for this bed ..(I picked mine up at a garage sale for $10.00)

The cover on Molly's bed does go over her body when she is prone. Like all of the AG historical beds, this one does not come with linens...and they are definitely missed. I also think the bed is overpriced, especially the newer version (we have an older version). I would pay no more than half of the current AG retail. For its simplicity and lack of linens, it gets a B from me. I added linens and we like it much better this way:

The earlier beds are wooden but not the sturdiest piece of AG furniture. The headboard is just "stapled" to the bed.
The newer plastic version is much better; I hope they've fixed the problem of screws that are just a tad too short. I emailed them about it but don't know if they listened. If anyone has the new bed, rather than returning/exchanging it, take the bed & headboard to your local hardware store & get new screws. Try your choice first so you know you have the right one.

Well, we really like this bed. I was fully prepared to not like it, as a matter of fact, I cringed when I had to buy it - but dd collects for Molly and she begged for her bed for Christmas. After putting this bed together (which was super simple - just a phillips screwdriver), and setting it up with Molly's other bedroom furniture - it went straight from the very bottom of my favorites to my 2nd favorite. I love everything that this bed comes with. No, it's probably not worth the $18 price hike it took a couple of years ago with the introduction of the accessory pillow and rug - but those two items add such charm to this bed that I am glad I opted to purchase new - rather than buy used. I expected to dislike the "lego like" frame on the bed, but it actually seems very sturdy. It would have been nice if it would have come with sheets - but none of the beds do - so I just shrug my shoulders and enjoy what it does come with. And a photo of the bed set up in Molly's bedroom - I think it is adorable - and so perfectly "Molly". Overall, I give this bed an A! It did not earn the + just because I don't think that the accent pillow and rug warrant the $18 price hike... if the bed was priced more in the $45 price point, it would have earned the +. D~

While both of my beds are older (purchased in 1989 and around 1993), I have a new one set aside for my daughter. The new one hasn’t been assembled yet, but it appears to be the same size as the older ones. I can measure them or take pictures if it’d be helpful.
The biggest difference between the beds is that the new one is plastic and the older ones are wooden. Even though the newer bed is plastic, it seems like it’ll be more durable than the older wooden ones, which a tendency to wobble and break. However, if your bed is going to be a display piece, you may be happier with the original, wooden bed.

The new bed is much much sturdier; the headboard attaches to the bed via screws which may or may not be long enough. All you need to do is take the bed & screws to your local hardware store & have them find you some that are a tad longer.
I learned that at MCM; the ladies there said that was all that was wrong with the beds & they'd put in screws that fit.
As far as I'm concerned, the LOOK of both beds is the same though but I do prefer the plastic one. It should hold up to family cats or small dogs sleeping on it...but might not hold up to a small child stepping on it.

I waited a long time to get Molly's bed because I thought it sounded sort of blah. I would never pay full price for it, but I got great deals and now have two. I love Molly and Emily's room with the nightstand and dressing table. One of these days I plan to make sheets for all the beds, but for now, I am just happy to have the beds.

I got an older wooden one off Ebay at a crazy cheap price, but it has been amazingly sturdy and has held up very well, even with granddaughters playing with it. I have the nightstand, dressing table, plus an extra nightstand and a cute wingback chair in her room. It fits in so well, and looks darling. However, when at AGP KC recently, they just had the bed and Molly in her pj's in a display area, and I thought it looked kind of bare, since all the other accessories are now retired. It needs something "extra" to pull it all together!

I've had Molly's bed twice now, and sold it twice. Both times it was a bargain, so I grabbed it. But I just don't like it. I've never seen a material covered bed in real life. Is this style accurate for the 1940's?
I've seen vintage doll beds on Ebay that are a lot like Kit's, but more realistic. Is a metal (iron?) bed something that a kid would have had in the 1940's?

I'm not sure that the bed is that historically accurate. It's the 40's and ln war time, I would think they would have had a plain metal bed like Kit's myself. I have never really liked the bed, but definitely love her table and chairs.

I looked it up and it seems that they had a lot of big wood furniture then so a wooden bed would work better to me.

I've never cared for it myself. I don't like how the cover can't be used as a blanket without looking ridiculous. Plus, the color scheme is not my thing.

Normally I like 40s stuff, but I HATE that bed. I didn't like it when I was a kid and my friend had it, and I still don't like it when I see it in the store. I don't like the style, and I definitely don't like the color (I have serious red issues, lol). I would think an iron bed would be much more accurate, maybe even Kit's bed.

It's actually my least favorite out of all the beds, it's just very simple and a bit boring in design....the new set with the pillow and rug add a bit of a color touch to it though.

I feel the same way in that I had it and returned it... then I reconsider ordering it again and again. I am just not crazy about it though so I talk myself out of it every time... it just doesn't seem worth the money IMO unless you really need to create a replica room from the books or movie!

My Dad was a young man in the 1940's & overseas in France. His bed, which he brought for me when he married my mom, was similar in style. It had a padded headboard covered in a gray vinyl-like "fabric". As for Molly's, it's not my favorite either, especially the older wood version which fell apart easily because the headboard was only stapled to the base. The newer version, even though it's plastic, is much sturdier. The headboard is screwed on; lets hope AG replaced the screws with ones that are a tad longer & actually do work.
I think Addy's is my favorite bed next to Kit's. I have Addy's & I thought it would work for Laura Ingalls too.
Now if only all the AG beds would come with sheets, pillow/pillowcase & a blanket!

I think I am the only one who LOVES it. Mine is a double personal reason. My great grandmother had an almost identical set of beds (but in hunter green) in one of her guest rooms, set up in the 40's for my mom and uncle (my uncle was born in 1937 and my mom in 1939). The beds had padded headboards, exact same style bed cover, they even were corduroy...but she had the beds pushed against the walls and matching bolsters on the beds, so they created daybeds. Some day I want to create bolsters for my Molly and Emily's bed. ETA: I meant to add, I always thought it was amazing that they stayed to same for about 50 years. They weren't changed until she passed away in the early 90's.Second, my room was all done in red and white growing up, as red was my favorite color

I LOVE Molly's Bed! I almost didn't order it, because I was afraid it was too red and because of the negative reviews. I personally love how light and simple it is, and when I added her white Adirondack chair to her room, I loved it even more. It has almost a nautical feel to it. Plus Molly is one of my favorite historical dolls and I really felt like she needed her room. I am so glad I took a chance and ordered her bed as her room is now one of my favorite rooms in the dollhouse. It is bright, youthful, and fun.

One thing that bed always reminds me of: how couples were encouraged to sleep in twin beds for public health reasons (to stop the spread of disease.) Rob and Laura slept in separate beds in the 60's. Lucy and Ricky bucked convention and slept (gasp) together on their show in the 50's. Molly's bed looks like one of a pair to me.

I love the way Molly's bed looks when paired off with her nightstand and vanity. Alone, it looks a little lost, and that's the way it looks at the KC store displayed all by itself (with Molly, of course), but since the nightstand and vanity are no longer available, it is just kind of plain to me. On the positive side, it is the most reasonably priced bed of all of them (historicals) so you don't exactly break the bank if you want two. My Molly has a darling room with her bed, and with the vanity, it "glams" it up a bit and looks so feminine, without all the frills and pink, gold and silver!!

I have passed up two of Molly's bed at garage sales. I just don't think it's made very well and overall not appealing. I personally like the JLY beds.

I've always like Molly's bed, but feel the execution is lacking. My grandmother as well had beds like this (hers was purple). She constructed them during the war by reusing fabric from an old slipcover, stretched over a piece of fiberboard that she padded. The bed was just one of those plain bedframes - Grandma wired the headboard on.
The velcro on the AG one has always annoyed me, and plus I have too many doll beds as it is.

I agree, I think the bed is lacking in execution. I love Molly and have almost all of her collection, but I have never and will never buy the bed. It just looks cheesy to me, in pictures and in person. I have a white painted wooden trundle bed with bedding in colors that coordinate with her vanity skirt, the red trim on her nightstand and the blue and red of her lamp. I love it, I wish I could take pictures but since my camera was stolen, I am waiting for my birthday when I hope, hope, hope I get a new one! Lin

My friend has this bed for her Molly doll, and I have no desire to buy it. The bedding is...icky. The rig is titchy (or at least looks it, Molly has a big dool room) and my friend lost her pillow (my guess is her little sister took it though). I think it is worth more of a $30 mark, for what you get, which isn't much. I don't really reccomend this, but that is just personal taste, my friend loves her bed, especialy with the sheets her gran made her for it.
