Recital Outfit & Charm (2010-2012)

I got on the wait list for this and then it came the other day. I have mixed feelings about this outfit.

The outfit overall is...okay in person. The pants look wonky, like they weren't stitched right. They are silver with swirly patterns and have an elastic waistband.

The top is made of the kind of fabric that makes most adults look fat and most teenagers look like beanpoles. It has flowers all along the chest part and some sort of funky v-pattern stitched into the front. The velcro is the non-snag kind. The top is kind of thin, just like the people version would be.

The shoes are standard issue ballet flats, meant to mimic satin.

The headband is just a plain, pain in the butt ribbon with elastic and some huge fake jewels on it. It took effort for me to get it right on Monica and about three tries to get it to sit right on Ellie.

Not my favorite outfit. Nice as a dressy, holiday-like pants outfit for those who don't like the skirt type outfits.

I'm really not that fond of its construction and the only doll in my gang who can get away with wearing this without looking like some sort of plague victim is Ellie.

The outfit comes with the "brave" square charm.

I was so excited to get the recital outfit but as soon as I saw it I made an instant decision that I didn't like it and thought it looked cheap. So I plan to return it. The flowers looks so frayed at the tips. Maybe this is fashionable but it looks like an old shirt that used to go with a really nice pair of pants. Oh well, one less outfit I need or want. Very disappointed in this shirt.

I ordered this outfit a few weeks ago, and honesty, I don't have many complaints. I will say that the pants do not go with the shirt whatsoever, but I don't pair the top with the pants.

The shirt: The shirt is made from a thin, blue knit. However, it isn't too thin. I can't see through it, but it could be because of the lighting. I feel that it is very realistic, though. I have similar shirts for myself, and even though those are thinner, I fix the problem by wearing a tank top underneath. I feel that if the thinness of the shirt is an issue with dolls, the problem could be fixed the exact same way. I think that the sleeves and rosettes are very pretty and add a nice touch to the shirt. I also like that it is somewhat form-fitting; I'm not a fan of looser shirts on dolls. Grade: A-

The headband: Just a basic blue ribbon headband with some elastic and jewels on it. It fits the dolls well, and it doesn't fall off. Grade: A+

The pants: When worn as actual clothing, they are quite tacky. I would never pair them with the shirt it came with. However, these pants strike me as pants that one would wear as part of a dance recital for a jazz class, and if I didn't give them away, that's what I would have used them for. As I said, they definitely aren't what I'd call street clothes or even dress pants. I never put them on a doll, so I don't know how they fit. I won't give the pants a grade.

The shoes: Basic blue flats made from a satin-like material. They are a little snug and hard to get on, but they are a nice piece to have for mix and match purposes. They are very simple. Grade: B+

Overall grade: A-

This is a really underrated outfit. I know the shirt is thin, but it's really pretty. Blue and silver is a nice combination. I read something on the AG website about the pants falling down, but that's never been an issue for me. The headband got a little tangled, but it's still working.
