Dogsled GWAS $38 Whether she’s steering or riding, your American Girl will have big winter fun with her own wooden dogsled. Show her the ropes, the foot brake that really works, and the removable AG flag that snaps proudly in the wind. This Dogsled is made of real wood and can fit one doll standing on the back as well as one doll lounging on the front. It comes with the guide ropes already attached to the sled. The Husky dog and harness are sold separately and reviewed Here. (The new Dog Sled is reviewed Here) I really like this Dogsled. The real wood design and the fact that it's quite life-size for the dolls is a plus. Grade A. Build-a-Bear Husky and AG Husky with dogsled

I have the older one and love it! The doll can sit on the sled or drive it. IMO, the older dog is bigger and much cuter than the newer one. They can both be bought for about the same price. There is more play value with the older one. The new one is made of plastic while the older one is made of wood. My DD11 loves to play with mine. She wasn't too crazy about the newer one.

Being from Alaska I am completely biased. I do not like the newer version. I think if you are going to portray a sled to kids it should be accurate. If AG makes other things like flutes, guitars, snowshoes, skis, and snowboard realistic, these should be too. This was Sadie who came to travel to me in Alaska. I love this sled for the accuracy and details that are identical to sleds here. When the school teaches about Iditarod each year, I am usually asked to bring it in as a display piece because of the accurate detailing. I like that it is made entirely of wood. There is also the foot break on the older version that I don't think is on the new version. Another detail. The newer sled is made of plastic and pretty sturdy. I like that they have fitted it with elastic for the hands and feet to stay on. I am considering adding that feature to my own sled. I think the accuracy in what it looks like is horrid. I have never seen anything like it on the real sled market. I could be wrong. Even the kid rec sleds aren't like this. Know that Pepper and the original Husky are different sizes. I highly doubt that Pepper would fit into the older harness. I like the original Husky better than pepper as well. If a kiddo this age had a husky around it would be better scaled to the old version. Pepper is a young pup of a Husky. All this being said, if it is something your daughter is really into and you don't mind the details, go for it. Get the newer version. It's all in what she would play with and love.

I love the original sled! Next to Kit's Treehouse, it is my favorite non-doll item and the original Husky is my favorite pet too! That said, I have to admit that it took me a long time to locate one on eBay that wasn't broken in some manner. That indicates to me that it is unlikely to hold up to rough play. If your child is going to be using it for display and some light play, then by all means look for the original one. If your child is more active, then I would go for the new one. Best case scenario? BOTH! lol

For looks, size and quality I would definitely go for the older sled. But if your main concerns are durability and price then I would get the newer version (plastic may not look as nice, but it is more durable). I personally own the older sled and really don't like the look of the new one at all, but then I am an adult collector so my dolls don't go mushing much.

I bought my daughter who is 9 the older dog sled on the secondary market...she is all into what looks real and did not like the new one. When it arrived I was somewhat worried about how long it would last because she really PLAYS with her stuff and was almost wishing I had gone with the newer plastic one. She has had in outside pulling dolls or other stuffed animals around the yard on a regular basis, has added numerous other dogs to make a sled team, and takes it on all sorts of adventures. She has had it almost a year (she got it for Christmas last year) and it looks just like when it arrived. I have been very impressed with how well it has held up to all the play time and am very glad I didn't disappoint her with the plastic version.

I love the older sled! My favorite part is the foot break - I love that little touch of realism.
That being said, you'd be good with either of them, I'm sure. If realism and PM nostalgia aren't your main concerns, I definitely wouldn't pay major $$$ just to get the old one. The new one is cute and will do just fine. It's just that the older one is cuter.

You do have to be more careful of the older sled since it is made of wood. Ours went through hours of girl/doll/dog play however, and is still going strong. It is one of the pieces that AG made that I think has heirloom quality in addition to play quality. If you don't mind being patient, there seem to be plenty of them available on the secondary market. I saw a dog/sled combo this summer for $24.99 that no one bid on! Be sure to get the dog with a harness so you can hook him up to the sled! (The paw protectors are really nice too!)

I have to agree the older dog and sled is MUCH nicer.I was lucky to score both at a thrift store. The newer dog and sled is so small it looks really silly IMO.

We have the older one and it is a lot of fun. I don't think it is that durable. I think it could break easily with rough play.
