I received AGT #15 yesterday and let me tell you, she is a lot prettier than what the catalog or pictures show... she has long textured dark hair which goes past her butt... it would probably be really fun to style.. she has medium colored skin, and rosy cheeks... her dark brown eyes really stand out! She is just gorgeous! I highly recommend anyone that is thinking about getting her to do so.. I heard rumors she may be retiring? Thats why I got her now... Ill be posting more pictures in the not so distant future... I still have to come up with a name for this gorgeous girly!

I have both a Mattel and Pre Mattel version of these dolls. They are both absolutely gorgous. I do find that I prefer the PM's hair. Perhaps it is just mine - maybe I should buy another to know definalety - but the Mattel's hair is to thicklyy piled in the front where its hard to do anytihng with except put it up in the half ponytail it comes in. Retiring? Seeing Wrxgrls I am almost tempted to get me a 2nd Mattel example.

Absolutely beautiful dolly! I give her an A. The only reason it's not a plus is because I too feel her hair is piled too thickly in the front. Other than that, she is GORGEOUS. Here's Maia Raquel the day after I got her from AGPLA.

I have to add my Rainne to this thread. She is my first Today girl. I just love her hair, though thanks to my daughter, Rainne's had a trim. She's still gorgeous though. Rainne is on the right, and TD Kiana is on the left. TD Kiana really touched our hearts when she visited last year. Hosting her really helped us at a very trying time in our lives. We really miss her. She was so sweet.

My 15, Janni, is a character whose family is from Kashmir. We are making her a modern girl, but like her to wear cultural dress for special occasions. She is an A- for us because of hair manageability issues. There's a lot of skin tone variation with the medium complected dolls, whom I find to be a challenge to photograph accurately. I know some people worry about dealing with textured hair if they haven't had any experience with it, but this doll is just great to learn on. She only misses being an A for me because of the two hair layers/lack of part, which makes styling a little more challenging. Here is a photo of the two different lengths of hair, which I've exaggerated by making the pulled-back section stand out. When braided, that section blends in better. This doll does not have a part, much like Kailey. In fact, I think of her as Kailey's opposite in terms of coloring, but exactly the same in terms of concept. And of course, they share the original face mold. Her hair is a lot of fun to play with, and goes nicely into up-dos.

I too bought this doll amid retirement rumors. I don't usually buy a JLY doll until I at least have a name for her, so this was my first time deviating from that pattern. Mine came today in the I Like Your style outfit. It isn't as flattering on her as it is on my JLY 25, Juanita.
Her textured hair came in a partial braid and it had a ponytail underneath the braid with the purple ponytail holder from the I Like Your Style Outfit. I really do like this doll--she's probably a very unique doll among the JLY dolls.
After much thought (and watching NCIS reruns) I named mine Ziva and tacked the middle name of Lorraine on, thus my JLY 15 is Ziva Lorraine--and a Jew from Israel, like the NCIS character she gets her first name from.
My biggest gripe with this doll is that her hair is in two layers: a heavy but short front layer that the braid came in, and a long second layer that goes down to her butt. Her hair is somewhat hard to style for this reason--not because its textured but because there are two very noticeable and different layers to her hair.
Grade: A- for the annoying front braid her hair came in and the two layers it creates when it is put down.

I have this girl and had planned on getting Marisol but instead came home with her. I initially called her Suga' for the first year or so and my husband made the comment that "Suga'" could only be a nickname and not a proper name! OK! So I've named her Cecily after Cecily Tison. (spelling) I love her dark eyes and hair! I had her hair cornrowed before we left the hotel and it stayed that way for months. I am displeased with the two different lengths and I always have a round thin cornrow braid that goes along her forehead and blends into multiple hairstyles but keeps things in the hairline under control! I had purchased a lovely two piece bathing suit just for her in a leopard print for summer and the browns made her skin look green in cast. So we had to change suits with one of the other girls. She looks awesome in Marisol's tap outfit and the old nautical outfit (white pants and striped shirt). She's such a pretty girl I give her an A-! ~Jan~

I just recieved #15 in the mail on Jan 6th, 2008. I absolutely love this doll. Her skin has the prettiest color. The closest thing I can think of would be coffee with two creams in it (I drink that everyday), and just a bit lighter than Josefina. I have never had a doll with textured hair before either, (except for a mini Addy), and I am loving it! So far most of these reviews don't like the hair in the front. I LOVE how it is layered there with out a part. So far I have been able to do any hairstyle I've wanted to do. Also, the hair in front is only super short if you pull it back. If you let it fall to the sides, it is the same length as the hair in the back. (Minus a few centimeters from the cutting of the braid to make the ends straight) I love that I can make her part go any which way I like. When I first took her out of the box I thought she had thin hair because a lot of it was in that braid. I took the braid out in the first ten minutes of owning her, and he hair became so thick a pretty! She has sooo much hair! I really reccomend her for anyone who likes doing doll hair because of the infinate possabilities! She looks fantastic in anything I've put her in so far. Blue, Purple, and Pinks all seem to be the most stunning on her. Definatly the best AG doll made according to me A+!!

I just received my #15 this week and she is stunning. The seller was selling her as "Josefina" but I could tell who she was! But I wasn't prepared for her to be so 'beefed up'. She looks like a linebacker! She has the broadest shoulders of all my girls and her waist is 12" around! Her biceps are 4 3/8" (compared to Nicki's at 4 1/8") She's very soft and squishy, so she's not overstuffed. Just a 'big-boned' girl, I guess. Her hair is beautiful. My PM#15, Charis (KAR iss)

I scored my retired #15 from Ebay in April 2009, and I have to tell you she is stunning! Her name is Veronica after my paternal grandmother. She is PM. She has bubble eye in both eyes, and I haven't had the heart to send her to the hospital. Otherwise, she's a fabulous doll.

I just got a 15 from Ebay... I couldn't tell which doll she was from the auction pictures (she looked like she had light skin, and it really DOES contrast with how dark her hair is!) but once she came in the mail, I was able to match her up.
And wow... her hair is GINORMOUS! The poor girl can barely stand up under its weight!

I didn't particularily like her, she looks to grown up for me. And I DO NOT like textured hair... I got her at a yard sale. I didn't even name her before I got rid of her. And I didn't like the textured hair with the traditional face mold. I'm sorry everyone! Just not the doll for me!

It's great seeing everyone else's dolls! I personally think she's one of the most beautiful American Girl dolls. I saw her for the first time in the catalog when the Girl of Today dolls first came out when I was 10 years old and was completely taken with her and named her Olivia. I finally got Olivia last year when I found her on eBay! She's still in the outfit I received her in (which incidentally is the prettiest Meet outfit of the new dolls I think) and doesn't have any other clothes because I haven't found anything that seems "right" for her. She's always seemed every elegant to me. It finally occurred to me today that Samantha's and Rebecca's outfits seem most appropriate for Olivia, so I'm going to get on that! I guess she'll be a historical girl. I still need to think up a background for her, but I'm quite pleased with my revelation. Anyway, here is my Olivia. Isn't she lovely? One thing I wonder about is her skin color. It strikes me as being pretty ashen looking. I've never seen another medium skinned American Girl doll in person so I don't know if this is normal or not. If it helps, the tag on her side says she was made in 2008. I ordered Kanani though so I guess I'll know about her skin tone soon enough! Also she seems to look more naturally colored in this photo (at least on my computer). What do you all think? Thanks so much! Edit: Here is a picture of Olivia and Kanani. You can see how very different their skin tones are! Olivia's skin tone really creeped me out for a while and kept me from bonding with her properly, but I recently tried putting her in Nellie's Christmas dress and suddenly she looks 10 times better. I had never changed her out of the outfit she came in and it turns out bolder colors (Nellie's dress is white, black and red) do more for her skin tone than pastels- at least lavender. My 15 is now Olivia Felice Carmichael, Nellie's friend from school.

#15 is an incredibly lovely and unique doll. I was so happy to finally find one for my very own! I insta-bonded with Leslie as soon as I took her hair out of its funny looking braid and parted it to the sides. I love that you can part her hair any way you want, because I wanted a doll with a center part, and even though AG offers very few of those, I was able to make my own! : ) Her skin tone is barely darker than the light skin tone, in my opinion anyway. I mean, she's clearly darker, but not by much. Her hair is huge and amazing. I just haven't had the heart to leave it in any up-do for very long because it's just so gorgeous left down. It's pretty sad that Addy is the only doll still available with textured hair, and that she's likely to be archived as soon as they release a new African American historical, because the hair is really different and fun to work with....I'll be sad to see it gone for good.

My #15, Daphne Lorraine, was a long awaited addition to my AG collection. (It's weird someone else gave her Lorraine as a middle name! I guess it fits her well.) I considered her as my very first doll in 2003, but didn't get her until I found a great eBay deal in 2010. She is really a wonderful doll! I love her in modern clothes and historical as well. She pulls off Addy's collection admirably. She has a unique look to her and boy is her hair fun! The best thing about it is that you can part it however you want to. It's also long enough that you can do all kinds of things with it. I'm sad the new "textured" hair girls aren't quite like her. My girl was made during the "Go Anywhere" outfit period, and I have to say she's in pretty good shape. Her limbs are the loosest of all of my dolls, but she can still stand up on her own. Luckily my Daphne isn't as much on the beefy side as some of the other retired dolls can be, but she is definitely pretty squishy. Her hair does have some frizzies, but those are mostly controllable with a spray bottle. I think that the pick seems to work best for her hair, but the hairbrush seems to be just fine too, as long as you're careful. Like some of the other girls, I don't think photos quite do her justice. In person she is absolutely gorgeous. Okore, I just love your Leslie. I drool over her when I see your photos! Here she is with my #9, Claire.

#15 is a doll that I've wanted for a long time. I just got her today, and I really like her. Her name is Francesca, and she is Italian.
I really like her hair. The length and the texture are very nice. I put her hair in braids, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out. Even with the two layers, I was able to braid it to the end with very little pieces sticking out.

I don't know if the wig changed over the years or not, but my doll is PM, and while the front layer appeared shorter when it was in its standard braid, when you take it down and part her hair, that section is actually longer.

As a rule the braid on the Mattel ones is very short. Even let out it's not as long as the rest. It changed about 1999(?) It also varies from doll to doll too though PM or not. I had a 2006 #15 with a very short braid. It looked an actual mullet out. I hated it so much I rewigged her. I bought another NIB one from about 2001 ish on eBay and her braid is noticeably longer and while I haven't taken it out yet I can't imagine it would be half as bad as the other one.

I have her and I hated the two layer hair business. I almost was ready to sell her - but she has such a pretty face.
I took her to AGPC and the lady did a veil front and then braided the hair in an upper tail and she is cute again. I'm leaving her hair alone.
