Grade: D-
how do I loathe this outfit? Let me count the ways. First off in the picture it seems that the outfit goes to the knee and has a sturdy set of tights. This outfit was anything but! Both my cousin and I got this outfit for our dolls and my cousin also got the girl size version. All three versions ride up, for starters. On my Josefina doll this dress went so high you could see her underwear! The stockings were another story. Both collector (me) and 9 year old (my cousin) managed to snag the tights because they are very fragile and would get stuck on the velcro. I called Pleasant Company up three times and had this outfit replaced three times because of the dress issue and the skirt issue. My Aunt and Uncle ended up returning the dress because it, too, rode up and the stockings for it ran very easily. They claimed it was immodest, and after a third time, they returned the girl size version to Pleasant Co. My cousin and I still both have the doll size versions. I hardly ever use mine and when I do, I have to use Josefina's Christmas dress knee high stockings with it, as the originals snagged very badly. This set was awful. Every time I called Pleasant Co. I got the opinion that my cousin and I were not alone in our dissatisfaction with this set. I stopped collecting the holiday dresses after this.
set included:
shoes, dress, and white stockings.

Garnet Holiday Outfit $26 GKOC Your American Girl will sparkle all night long in this wonderful wintry dress trimmed in fluffy faux-fur. Bright white tights and velvety shoes add a sophisticated touch.I've always liked this outfit and think it is a simple, nicely-cut festive dress. Its glittery garnet knit fabric is stretchy enough to fit the plumper body of Stella ( a customized JLY-2 from the Pre-Mattel era) but it also hangs nicely on a slimmer doll. It has a subtle bodice line, and velcro in the back. The tights do require gentle use, but no more so than most tights and I've never found them to be excessively snag-worthy. The shoes are a nice touch in matching plush garnet velvet. No complaints from me; it is a simple but pretty look for the holidays, so rates an A grade.

Another positive for this dress. We bought it in 2001 when it came out, and it has held up well. I like the simplicity of the dress, and the softness of the fabric. The garnet color is a nice alternative to the traditional red, and the velvet shoes are really cute. Grade A from me for the Garnet Holiday Outfit!

The twins, Sarah and Anna are well plump PM dolls and this dress fits them well. I wish it was just a little bit longer though. Love the shoes. Overall for the PMs like mine, cute.
