Released in 2006, retired in 2013.
After Molly and Emily bicker over ideas of what their birthday party should be, the happy surprise of two puppies, one for each of them, thaws the cold war between the girls. Molly names her puppy "Bennett," after Emily, and Emily names hers "Yank" in honor of her new American friends. Includes trading cards.Yank is a cute little puppy. He has a soft body, curly "fur", plastic collar with a "Y" tag and a cute little head tilt. He looks like Bennett in reverse. He really doesn't look much like a REAL dog but he is very cute and a must have for dog loving dolls! Grade: A

Emily’s Dog, Yank Item# F5170 $18 (price increase to $20 January, 2012)
Yank is Emily’s dog, a terrier pup named in honor of the Americans who have welcomed her. He wears a red ribbon collar with a dog tag attached. Terriers were a popular breed in the 1930s and 1940s—President and Mrs. Roosevelt had a well-known Scottish Terrier named Fala! Sweet, fluffy dog! Yank is a plushie and so soft. His markings are exactly the opposite of Bennett's. That's good, so we can tell them apart. The picture on AG on-line doesn't show that he has a tag with a "Y" on his collar, but he does. Neither his collar nor his tag comes off. He measures 5" long and 5" tall (to his ears). Fun pet. Every girl needs her pet. Grade A. Yank Emily and Yank for size comparison

Happy Birthday, Molly! tells how Molly and her English friend, Emily, who is staying with the McIntire family, were surprised with two pups on Molly’s tenth birthday. Molly names her puppy Bennett, which is Emily’s last name, in honor of her new English friend. Emily names her puppy Yank in honor of her new American friends. I recently purchased the pair of puppies on the secondary market for a little less than their original retail price (which would have been $18-20 for Yank alone or $32 for the pair), and I think at the discounted price it was a fair deal. Both puppies are quite cute. They are plush with nubby fabric bodies, textured black plastic noses, shiny black eyes, and red grosgrain ribbon collars that are sewn into the seams in the front and back so they don’t come off. The collar has a circular metal tag (with a “B” for Bennett and a “Y” for Yank). Mine didn’t come with leashes. (In the picture above, Yanks’s face looks a little strange. That’s because the nubby fabric is covering part of his nose and eye at that angle - not because something is wrong with him!) Bennett is mostly white with some apricot colored spots, and Yank is mostly apricot colored with some white spots. Their patterns are in reverse of each other. The other difference between the puppies is the positioning of their heads and ears. My Bennett looks forward and his ears are sewn so they lay forward without raising up, while Yank’s head is cocked up and to the side with one ear raised. I think this makes Yank look playful and inquisitive. Both puppies have orange fabric on the inside of their ears. They each have a tag that says American Girl and to “wipe clean with a damp cloth,” and a smaller tag that says F06. My main issue with AG pets is typically the size, and like most of their animals, these are quite small. However, keeping in mind that these are Jack Russell terriers, which are fairly small when full grown, and that on top of that, they are puppies when given to Molly and Emily, I think they’re actually more in proportion than most AG pets. Here they are playing with Gabriela so you can see the scale. (Please excuse Bennett’s first aid pack, which is part of the Bennett’s Pup Tent set.) Overall, I think Yank and Bennett are both cute and fuzzy puppies that make good AG friends. They’re pretty small but there’s a plausible reason for that, and overall I’d give Yank a B+ if purchased as part of the pair for the original retail price.
