This is the outfit that has the double-shirt, blue cargos, and hiking boots.
It is, in one word, awesome. Okay, maybe it's a bit too pastel or pink, but it has a lot of really neat parts. Here's the breakdown!
Shirt:
Though it looks like two pieces, the shirt is actually a single article of clothing. The sleeves and hood part are sewn to the blue t-shirt, so it's easy-peasy to deal with. Except... there are no buttons or velcro or snaps or anything. To put it on, you have to put it over the doll's head, then stick her arms into the sleeves. That might cause stretching of the neck hole eventually, but it seems big enough that you shouldn't really have to worry about that. You will want to wait to do her hair until after the shirt is on, though!
The t-shirt part is a light aqua. There is a distinct green tone in it that keeps me from calling it light blue, but it's very lovely. The compass graphic is printed on in urple, light blue, pink, and yellow. The central yellow section has the American Girl logo in purple.
The hoodie part is striped pink, light blue, light aqua, and purple. The sleeves are a nicely long length, coming past the doll's wrists, but not over her thumbs or anything. The collar has a faux-wrap look in the front, and the hood in the back, of course. The hood fits neatly over the doll's head, but probably looks best when the hair is styled close to the head or is left loose. It might look best with shorter haired dolls, too - I'm not really sure. I like it up on both Beatrice and Traveling Nora, but then I wear my own hoods up when it's raining or there's a nasty wind, to keep my neck and ears covered.
I've heard that some people are concerned about the way the sleeves look when you move the arms around. They do look a bit odd if you just move the arms, but it's easy to fix the problem but just twisting the sleeves a smidge. I personally don't think it's a real problem at all.
Cargos:
These are a really nice steel blue cropped pant with cargo details. The fabric is polyester of some kind, I suspect, so it feels soft and a teeny bit shiny, almost but not quite like parachute pants of old. The cuffs are just above ankle length and the waistband is at the typical AG height these days.
There are five belt loops which are really useable and five pockets. The two at the hips are fake, but the two on the sides are real, if rather tiny, and there is another tiny pocket on the right leg, below the larger one.
The left leg has a light blue AG star under the side pocket, and a small strip of orchid satin in the side seam is used for the logo.
The fly is velcro-only, despite the two faux snaps. It is the no-snag version of velcro, though. It's kinda hard to do up, as is common with most modern AG trousers, and the little bit of elastic at the back doesn't do much of anything. It's completely stretched out on the doll. These cargos will not be able to fit a fat PM doll.
There are drawstrings on each leg, a little bit above the cuffs. They're horizontal, so if you want, you can cinch them up and push them up to her knees. The drawstrings really do work, but be careful because the string part is elastic.
Shoes:
Probably my favorite part of the outfit! These are hiking boot style. The soles are brown and grey rubber. The uppers are primarily light pink fake leather with tan around the toes and tongue (which is also pink). There are small dark pink sections at the sides of each shoe, angling back from the laces. I see it a lot in sneakers, but I dunno what it's called. The laces themselves are tan and lace through three sets of metal eyelets.
Headband:
This is a a doubled-over strip of pink cotton. Each end is attached to an elastic circle. There are two tails, one for each side, and you can tie them or let them hang. I found the headband to be somewhat tight and not very easy to put on. But, once it was on, it was pretty cute and veered the outfit into a very pink direction. Without the headband, it isn't so very pink.
Grades:
Overall: A-
Shirt: A- because of the potential for stretching or the graphic coming off
Cargos: C+ because of the too-small fit and low rise (but I love them anyway!)
Shoes: A+ because they're awesome and fit easily, even if they didn't come with socks!
Headband: B because it's pretty, but not the easiest thing in the world to deal with
