Meet Outfit I


Grade: A

The Good:

Lots of mix and match pieces. Some very classic "basic" pieces like the white blouse, t-shirt, etc. Good color coordination, and majenta is a great "girl" color without being too barbie.

The Bad:
Technical: The shirt connects with velcro, rather than buttons, which means it doesn't look as nice hanging open. And if you leave the blouse open, you have a majenta overload!

Emotional:
While a part of me loves that the Today Outfits are such great indicators of the trends of the times, this outfit to me is not at all representative of 1995. At the time I got this doll, I was twelve, and girls were no longer wearing leggings and big shirt combos like this. This outfit is something Blossom would wear, and by 1995 Blossom had hit the realm of "uncool." So the doll felt dated as soon as I got it! However, if I just think of it as "early nineties outfit" I don't feel as bad.


Notes: While the description states that this comes with velvet flats, my set never came with the velvet flats, a fact I remember quite distinctly. Instead, it came with the same plastic Mary Janes that you get with Molly and Samantha. Of course, I forgot these at my childhood home in Washington so I couldn't include them in the picture :-(

Hmm... I have a couple of these outfits, each one has a different white blouse: one has snaps, one has buttons and one has velcro. I agree that the velcro isn't the greatest. All of mine came with the velvet flats.

This is my favorite meet outfit since it comes with so many pieces.

That's actually really interesting that they had so many different versions of the shirt - I wonder if they underestimated demand, and had to get more made from a seperate factory. That might also explain why I didn't get the flats - they'd run out temporarily and just put Molly shoes on.

I have this outfit and I love it. I like the fact that it doesn't have real buttons they take to long to button. Overall score: A+

I like how the pieces of this outfit all look good on their own. I love the button up shirt -- it's adorable! This outfit is also VERY early 90s, which I think is cool. The leggings do look slightly odd though. B+

I was 11 in 1995, and I agree that this outfit is very dated for the time period. But maybe Pleasant Co. was working on it in 1993, so when it came out it was dated. I think this outfit and the yellow one were both very dated by the time they came out, and not very accurate for the years they were the main outfit.

I think it's the best meet outfit so far, even though it's so dated. It seems like in the "old days", the meet outfits were heartier and had more pieces, nicer fabric, etc. I have this one, the urban one from 2000, and the ILYS one from 2007, and this one is the most high-quality.

I never put my grin pins on it, though. Haha. I put them on a box, which is now covered with them.

Mine came with the velvet flats, but my friend's didn't. My sister's did, though.

Here is my #3 in the first meet outfit, that she came in. I did get the velvet flats with mine. They have gotten very worn over the years..they are one of my favorite pairs of shoes.

I got my doll wearing this outfit for Christmas 1995 when I was 10, right after the dolls came out. I agree that the style was not up to date, but I didn't care! I was just so excited about the doll. My doll came with the velvet flats, unfortunately. As any self respecting kid would do, I took off her clothes right away and her feet were stained dark gray from the shoes and still are. So I would advise not keeping the shoes on a doll for more than a few hours if you don't want stained feet!

I also got my AGoT #4 when they first came out, and I agree that I do not remember wearing anything like this as a girl in 1995. I didn't mind the vest, white shirt (mine has the snaps) and the black flats, but magenta is not a colour for me.

As for the shirt, I think I read somewhere that the first version came with the snaps, but due to complaints of the functionality/longevity/difficulty of the snaps, PC replaced then with the velcro.

I picked this up in mint condition on eBay for my PM #4 Jessa for Christmas. I really didn't have any interest in the modern dolls when they debuted in 1995, and I barely looked twice at this outfit. I mainly bought it for the pieces, rather than the outfit as a whole. While yes, it looks extremely early 90s when put together, it remains one of the best for mix-and-match. Jessa's wearing the vest turned to the magenta part now. It came with Grin Pins still on the cardboard, but not the velvet flats (not a huge loss, since Jess still has the velvet flats from her First Day Meet Outfit). My white shirt came with Velcro.

I have always really loved this outfit. Mine came with my Girl of Today back in October of 1995. All of the pieces are very high quality and made of a nice thick material which have held up very well over time. The white blouse came with snaps and my shoes were the black velvet flats. I would definitely recommend this outfit if you are looking for clothes from the '90's. I give it an A+
