The Purple Ice Skates are very easy to put on and take off if you open them up correctly by unlacing them first. Just pull the silver elastic band off of the top two eye-hooks and open the velcro. Her foot slips right in. Cross the silver elastic bands and hook them back on the eye-hooks and re-velcro the strap. TA-da!
My dd ordered this with her birthday money and they are wonderful. We had a pair of the ac moore skates to go with her performance outfit and the ag skates are 300x better. The real metal blades, the blade covers, the cute colors, everything - make them well worth it. And they come in a shoe box like the other shoes, which is also a plus. Definitely worth the $$. A+++
ETA: The colors are more vibrant than the flash really shows... they are not as sugary colored.

I was a little disappointed with these. They are really nice quality compared to other brands, and Mia was getting sick of her performance skates, but still, I'm not sure they're worth the $14. I suppose if you want her whole collection or don't want to wait until the current backorder date for the white skates, you should get them, but I don't like them that much.
The colors are a little sickening. I think it would have been really cool if AG had made white figure skates for Mia and a pair of regular, black hockey skates. Why purple?! It's just as bad as the JLY 2-in-1 skate outfit skates. (As a figure skater, the inaccuracy offends me, and as a female, the gender stereotype that girls would only wear hockey skates if they were sparkly offends me even more.) Someone posted above that the colors aren't "sugary" except in pictures, but I think that's the exact word I'd use to describe the colors.
Some of the reviews made it sound really simple to pull the little elastic band off the top two hooks, and it was, but it was a severe pain to get them back on! I spent a good five minutes trying to wrestle the "laces" back into the hook. The other problem I have with them is that the guards always slip off the skate blade. (Explanation for this is, one-piece guards like that have to have a plastic ring to keep them on skates, or they just fall off.)
The two pluses are that the skates look really good as hockey skates, even if they're the wrong color. And I really love the shoebox packaging for them!
Overall? I'd give them a B. I bought them because I'm a figure skater and had to have all skating-related pieces of Mia's collection, and because I wanted a pair of skates for some of my other dolls. But if I could only have one pair, I'd absolutely go with the white ones.

I love the purple skates! They're really easy to get on/off because of the elastic, which I love. I don't own Mia's other skates, but I own the GOT skates (with the purple sparkly dress from about 1996), which tie up the front like Kirsten's boots. The only downside to Mia's purple skates is that, unlike the GOT skates I have, the skate guards do NOT have little elastics to help keep them on. I finally just gave up and put the skate guards in another place so I wouldn't lose them, because they will NOT stay on the blades.
Overall grade: A- (minus for the stupid skate guard problem)

Definitely worth the $14 considering her other skates are $28 and all you get for that extra $14 is a mattel-esc plastic ipod that looks cheap and a skate bag.
Purple Ice Skates - Grade A+
Well, you also get accessories for the music player. And considering the music player actually plays music, I would say it's worth the $28.
As for these skates, I would say it's worth the $14, because they were LE, which adds some worth, and they come with guards, and they aren't just shoes. They're skates, which would be harder to make, so they would have to charge a bit extra. All in all, they're a great addition to your collection.

I got these skates just so I could try to get everything in Mia's collection and well....... ughh.
Apart from these skates being great as an extra pair when my dolls head to the nearest rink together, and the fact that they fit pretty well aside from the fighting to get the elastic shut sometimes, I think these are terrible! They honestly look like a pair of Softec skates that recreational adult skaters who want extra padding wear. (No offense to anyone out there who does use them though!)
Mia is a girl doing double jumps and competing at Regionals. Why on earth would she have a pair of Softec style skates?? Honestly, i'd expect her to have at least another pair of figure skates even if they were used, as opposed to these things. These types of skates if they and Mia were real, would not work together AT ALL. Probably no ankle support or a substantial toepick on them.
And btw, purple again? I'm starting to see a trend with purple skates. Since when has AG seen real figure skaters running around wearing purple skates? Last I looked mine were white.
I think AG would have done much better off if they had just made Mia a pair of hockey skates. Sorry AG, but i'm a figure skater who pays attention to these things. So, unfortunatly, these skates recieve a C- from me.
I think these pictures have a pretty decent representation of the colors. I'm in the middle. I would have preferred them to be a more realistic color (black?) if they were supposed to be hockey skates. However, the colors are not totally gag-worthy to me.
I'm also confused about why she would own these. I got them because I wanted all the skating-related stuff in Mia's collection. My Mia doll, Cate, is a competitive skater, and she does have multiple pairs of (white/not pink!) figure skates besides her nice/expensive ones (the ones in her accessory set). Although Cate is competitive, she does go skating recreationally decently often with friends. My guess would be that she got them cheap somehow or they were given to her by someone sort-of clueless and these would be the type that she might bring on vacation if she knew they'd be going skating, but wasn't competing or practicing, so that she didn't have to worry about losing or damaging her other ones. They also look somewhat like the rental skates I've used, so they could work for that too.
I don't find them that hard to get on. Mine must be looser - I do have to undo the velcro but I didn't have to unhook the elastic. The guards stay on OK. I liked that the old ones had the hook in the back. However, they are decent and stick for photos, I just take them off before moving a doll or something like that, so I don't lose them.
I think the worth of this set depends on what you are after. I like that the skate bag comes with her accessories as I think someone who is a competitive skater would probably have that. If you are concerned about accuracy for a figure skater, I don't think these skates are the way to go. However, if you just need skates for your dolls who skate recreationally, or are more after cute colors, they are still well-made and these might be the skates for you.
Grade: B - for randomness/lack of accuracy, but still well-constructed
