This seems to be the latest of the AGBBA shirts, the last one being the purple shirt reviewed here as well. Is the butterfly the AGBB motif, whereas the star is the AGP motif, or something? Anyway, on to the review.
Unlike the purple shirt, this one has cap sleeves. I prefer the regular t-shirt sleeves, especially since this one seems a little thin and it looks like the sleeves may fray, but it's quite cute in design anyway. The whole shirt has a lightweight, almost spandex feel, which was odd compared to the other AGBBA shirt I have, but it feels nice.
The design is very sparkly, to the part where I feared it would shed sparkles on me, but I am pleased to report I am sparkle-free after dressing Claire in it (shoot, I was hoping to convince some girls I was a Twilight vampire. Back to body glitter...). I like the Atlanta logo up in the butterfly's antennae, and the heart it forms, although is anyone else a little disturbed by the butterfly having antennae bigger than it is?
Either way, it's a cute design. Doesn't feel like the most durable of shirts any of the stores has ever offered, but if you're in Atlanta and are mesmerized by the sparkles, feel free to pick one up, although I still like the purple one better and if they still have that, you may want to go that way for souvenirs, too. I have coveted this shirt for ages now (about a year and a half), and I was so excited to finally get one. I've always planned to get it for Rose, and I actually feared that I had missed the boat on it, but no, it's still there: (Don't blame me for that outfit, it's canon, only she's in a denim skirt instead of a denim jumper.) I don't like the bunching up on the side so much, but everything else is just so stylish: the slightly askew star, the studs around the star, the silver and red designs around it, all combine to make it look like a wonderful, artful starburst, almost fractal in appearance. I call this the "radial symmetry" shirt because, well, that's what it is. (In math, biology, and art, "radial symmetry" refers to being able to divide a circular pattern anywhere on its axis and having identical or near identical halves, no matter where you divide it.) I have always been fascinated by this design of the shirt, and impressed by how classy it makes it look (the darker lines are the same pattern as the silver ones, done in red. They didn't show up so well with my camera). I have to give this shirt a definite A. I'd love to give it an A+ because I am so overjoyed by it, but in the interest of fairness, that bunching is odd and annoying.

I wonder if they were trying to exhibit a realistic tanning pattern. I highly doubt it. The dolls aren't made one at a time, with parts of each one molded separately. They grab parts from huge lots of medium-skinned limbs, heads, and torsos, then put in the eyes and wig to make her #28. I don't think they spend a lot of time mixing and matching the limbs and head to make sure they're all the exact same shade.

Julie first Meet Outfit was released at her debut in 2007 and retired in August 2014, when it was revised with the BeForever revamp.Julie opens up a whole world of play with authentic styles from the ’70s: A crinkle-gauze peasant blouse over a turtleneck, Two-tone bell-bottom jeans and butterfly screen-printed underwear, Platform sandals and a braided, beaded belt.I noticed that no one's actually dissected Julie's meet outfit and given it a piece-by-piece review, so I decided to do just that. I was changing her clothes/starting to customize her while I went, so if you notice a striptease thing where she has less clothes on with each piece I review, that's why. The belt. Started there because that's what I took off first. It seems to be made of real leather, or a reasonable approximation thereof. There's three beads at each end, and it's braided, with the braids sewn up at the ends to keep them from unraveling. The beads are also sewn into place with multiple threads to keep them from sliding up at all. I have to admit, I don't get what would be so bad with them sliding up and down, between the braid being sewn at the top and the ends tied off at the bottom, but whatever floats their boat. The entire belt laid out. It's actually pretty long, if my soda can or the AG sneakers give you any sort of frame of reference. Personally, I think all of their efforts to keep it from falling apart ended up making it look less like a small version of something people would use and just something random and fake. If they had given people a bit more credit and not sewn the beads in place, I'd probably like it more. But really, it's just a random belt. *Shrugs* C+The tunic seems to be made of very light linen, that's somewhat coarse. The embroidery is real and very spiffy, however. It's only on the front of the collar, and the back velcros to slide it off. The tunic has bell-sleeves. Meh, it's okay. I don't really see much use for it outside of this outfit, though. It's not like it has high mix and match potential. B-The turtleneck. I actually really love this, but I love lots of colors. It's bright and fun and interesting to look at, and I'll probably work it into some of my tackier mixing and matching. A-The backs of the jeans. I was disappointed that the two-tone thing didn't go to the back as well, actually. Detail of the front. The closure is, of course, velcro. I liked them enough to leave them on Rose, although she's a modern, but I don't like that they're so tight that it was next to impossible to sit Rose down in them. B-Knickers! The '70s gals got the cutest panties. Not that I usually care about the panties at all (I have three dolls going commando right now, in fact), but you have to give credit where it's due, and these are pretty cute. They're pink with a purple butterfly. AThese sandals are hateful. I've been describing them as made of evil all night. The soles are rubbery plastic, and the tops are faux-leather plastic. My problem with them is it's next to impossible to get the doll to stand up in them. The straps on the back are clear and actually really effective in keeping the sandals on, and they''re better than the Christmas outfit sandals, anyway, but having the doll stand is kind of important. They even have tread on the bottom, so I don't know what gives. Meh, D+ for being better than the Christmas outfit sandals, and into the drawer they go. In the end, I have to give Julie's meet outfit a C+. It may seem harsh, but part of what I like about certain outfits is how well they work for mixing and matching, and only about two pieces of this outfit seem like they would work for other outfits. And have I mentioned the shoes are evil? *mod edits to remove dead image links*

As always, I start with a box. Usually I also show you the pieces as they come out of the box, but this time, I needed to hunt down batteries for my camera and then it broke so I had to beat on it until it worked again fix it delicately and expertly, so I tried everything on first. Anyway, standard new historical box.
Here is the outfit in its entirety as it looks on Tabby (my Jess). I promise you all if I get Rose before someone with Julie gets this outfit, I'll post pics of Julie in this outfit so you can see how well it works. I think it looks beautiful with Tabby's darker coloring, though. Well, the main parts, anyway.
The blouse is made out of a sort of scratchy linen. I expected it to be softer, really. The ruffles on the cuffs need to be ironed out, since mine got folding at odd angles in transit, but the sleeves don't appear as poofy as they do on the website in person. The jumper is a lovely burgundy color and very soft velvet with flower details stitched into the side, and the belt is removable and although it has holes in it for the spoke to hold it in place, there is no spoke on the buckle.
(mod edit to remove broken image)
The detail on the side of the skirt. Blouse: B, Jumper: B+
The tights are horribly, terribly tacky. Not only do they look terrible in person, they feel terrible and they shed little gold flakes. They are made out of a thick orange-yellow fabric, which has tinsel (yes, tinsel) woven into it, that likes to come off. The fabric is so thick, it's next to impossible to sit the doll down while wearing them, and even worse to get the shoes on over them. They really are good for nothing, and the texture is just awful. F
The shoes, which are two faux-patent leather straps looped around each other on a foam base. They are made of cheap foam and plastic "patent leather" and don't fit on my doll's feet at all. I got them on eventually, but when I changed socks, I didn't bother trying. D-
So I have to give this outfit a C+. Don't get me wrong, the blouse and jumper are adorable, but they really phoned it in in places. Considering how much it is, you'd really expect more from it.

The only thing I don't like about her Meet accessories is that she has a 1976 quarter when her stories take place in 1974. That's probably nitpicking, but it bothers me. Unless I'm just uninformed and they produced bicentennial quarters for a few years before the actual bicentennial in 1976. Does anyone know? Like other AGs, her stories cover a couple of years. I know for a fact that one of her books (Julie's Journey) takes place during 1976, as does Changes for Julie.

So yes, I finally got Julie/Rose, but since no one had done a review of the meet outfit piece for piece yet, I think I'll start a new one, so just the doll here.
(mod edit to remove broken image)
Here she is. I have a new camera, but I need to work on perspective, I see. ~_~ Personally, I like the contrast of dark eyes with light hair, but I also admit if it weren't for who I was turning her into, I probably wouldn't. I think the combination makes her look sunny and cheerful, though. Her eyes are the light brown pinwheel type, rather than dark brown like my #28's. I also love this face mold and I'm glad it's getting more use. One thing I'll note that surprised me was for a Mattel doll, mine's body is unusually soft and squishy.
Her hair. As people have mentioned, it's platinum blonde and very soft. I like how it slips through my fingers like water, and I even like the color, but I admit it looks more like it came from a bottle than from nature (and I say this as a person who was a platinum blonde child). But I like it myself, although I can tell I am going to fuss over it endlessly.
This was taken right after taking out the braid, without brushing it or anything, so you can see how kinked up the hair becomes from the braid. It's pretty wavy, but not as bad as I thought.
(mod edit to remove broken image)
How I have her now. I think she makes a very sweet, mature looking modern girl, not just a throwback to the '70s myself. I am not good at playing with hair, but hers was pretty easy to manage, even with the kinks from the little braid. I'm giving her an A from my end. Boring, but she's won me over.

I know I said a couple of reviews ago I'd stop including pics of the boxes, but this one was different and neat, so I thought I'd show it: the one on top if the 2-in-1 outfit box. The one below is a JLY outfit box, for size comparison. The box for this outfit is nearly twice the size oft he box for the other outfits AG sells. In hindsight, I should have seen this coming, because of the hockey stick in there. But still, there it is. The box opens differently, too, with a lid that is completely removable (placed on top of a box of DVRs so you can see it's not attached to the box). You can also see how the stuff was arranged inside of the box, and the hockey stick taking up most of the space inside of it. For being new and different and giving me a thrill for a few minutes, I give this box an A. The stick. It's all plastic, including the "tape", which is just molded plastic painted a different color. As noted above, the hockey is curved so that it's meant for a leftie, which works for me because I gave it to Liz, who is a leftie. It's not a bad piece. Not the most highly detailed and the scale strikes me as a little off (the blade looks like, if it were scaled to human-size, it'd be too short, and the shaft looks too thin), but it's cute for what it is. B-The puck, which is about the size of a nickel (included for comparison: a nickel). It has "AG" in the star on the top, and is a plastic disc about the size of three nickels stacked together (not included for comparison: three nickels stacked together). This is another thing that strikes me as a little smaller in scale than a human-sized one would be, but I'll admit I don't know much about youth hockey leagues, and maybe their pucks are smaller. I really didn't expect much more from a puck than a plastic disc, so I wasn't disappointed, just wasn't terribly impressed, either. C+The jersey, and allow me to rant about my disappointment for a moment here, if I may. I somehow got the impression that the jersey would be a loose fit, because jerseys are sized big (you know, so you can put padding underneath them). I admit this is my bad here, because every pic of Mia on the AG site wearing the jersey shows that it's fitted, and even the pic in the review above of Mia wearing the jersey shows that it's fitted, but hope springs eternal, I guess, but I think we all can tell where this is leading: I got the outfit partially because I wanted the hockey stuff for Liz, a PM AGT who already has sizing issues as a result of being slightly overstuffed. It took a lot of grunting and struggling to get the jersey on her, and as you'll see in the pictures at the end, the result is it looks horrible and not very jersey-like on her. But on to a more objective note. Here's the detail of the logo on the jersey, which says "STARS", and has the American Girl logo below it. The material feels similar to the material used for real jerseys, and I have to admit a slight bias for the color scheme: white, light blue, and navy blue are the colors of the Maine Black Bears, the college hockey team that I follow. I ultimately plan to find a small sew-on patch of the UMaine logo and sew it over the logo on the jersey, but I like their attempt at a team logo here, but no so much the inclusion of the AG logo (when did AG decide they have to put their logo on everything, anyway?). And the detail of the sleeve, which includes a player number (like real professional jerseys) and the team colors. Here is an example of what I mean. If this were a professional jersey it'd be sized properly it'd also have a number and the player's name on the back, but because it's not, it's a doll jersey, we have velcro on the back instead: Not that I'm at all surprised, though. I am still disappointed by the fit, though. Even if the fact that my doll were PM weren't an issue, jerseys just shouldn't be so tightly fitting. I wouldn't mind if it fit a little closer on Liz if it were still loose on Mattel dolls, including Mia, but this is just not the case. It's the little things that get to you, ya know? C- (But I admit it would have gotten lower if not for the colors.) So let's move on now to things I didn't have a huge bias toward going in: the rest of it! The hat. It took me a while and many trips consulting with pics of Mia to figure out how, exactly, it's supposed to be put on. It's a seriously weird design, like it's not a beret, but it's not a cloche, and it's really, really hard to figure out how to make it not look stupid. And the doll I put it on had a totally different hairstyle and face mold from Mia so of course it was never going to look like the picture of Mia, but ANYway, the hat. It feels sort of fleecy and soft. And it's pink. Yeah. The underside of the hat. I'm never fond of AG hats, anyway, but once I finally figured it out, it looked pretty cute, and for that, I give it a B-. The sweater, which is actually my favorite part of this outfit. Fair Isle sweaters are actually very popular up here in Maine, so I see them a lot, and the design is actually very similar to what you'd see an a people-sized one, and I love the color scheme on it. Detail of the design on the sweater. It appears to be woven, not dyed in, and the sweater itself feels very soft without making me itch. Sweater-like but without sweater materials. The button on the sleeve, which matches the color of the sweater very well, and is very small and unobtrusive, so if you decide not to put the mittens on, no one's going to remark on the weird random buttons on the sleeves. All in all, an A for the sweater. The mittens. I expected these to be hard to pull on, but actually they went on fairly easily, I just had to spin them a bit to get the thumbs in the right places. Then I worried that there would be a gap between the sweater sleeves and the tops of the mittens, since that seemed like the kind of thing that'd never look catalog-perfect in person, but no, they actually don't have much or any gap at all up there. In all, I didn't have high hopes for these and was pleasantly surprised, except for in one area... The loops at the top, which I came to discover are actually an extension of the elastic at the top of the mittens. So when I pulled it very gently to loop it around the buttons, guess what happened? The tops of the mittens started to cinch and the loop doubled in size! And when I pulled the tops of the mittens to try to even out the elastic ratio again, it didn't quite work. So I suggest being very, very, extremely, don't-breathe-while-doing-it careful when attaching these to the sweater. B+The legwarmers. Meh. Maybe they're designed around the skates they made for Mia, but since I have neither Mia nor her skates and used a different pair of shoes, they were a pain to navigate and of course didn't look anything like the AG catalog images showed (and not just because I positioned the pom-poms differently). The bows are actually elastic, and the knots aren't sewn, so be careful not to tug at the pom-poms too much or you'll untie them. C-The skirt, which would be my second-favorite part of the outfit! I love the darker color of the denim on it. It has pockets! Albiet quite shallow ones. It has belt loops! It has a strip of velcro that's too short so the skirt's sort of hard to get on! Which was my only major gripe about it, really. Once it's on, it's very cute. A-Liz with the hockey parts, so you can see just how tight the jersey is on her PM body. (I didn't bother posing her. Sorry.) Rose wearing the rest of it. So my overall grade would be C+. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck, but for the $34 price tag, I'd really expect some better quality control here. ETA: For those wondering, yes, the outfit does come with a hanger (and yes, just the one, despite there being two shirts). I didn't bother getting a pic of it since we've all seen AG hangers before and I don't personally use them. I know, I take pics of the boxes, but not the hangers. I'm weird.

I actually couldn't stand this outfit. I thought it was garish and nothing a real girl would wear, and I might have a slight bias against it because Liz was trapped in it for the first four years she lived here.

Okay, here's my long review, with pictures. I am a bit disenchanted by this outfit, to say the list. The first thing that annoyed me was that I got it for Liz, my PM doll, and it wouldn't fit her. At all. The dress was a pain to get closed, and the shoes wouldn't go on at all. I finally gave up, put Liz back in her Heroes-themed outfit, and let Mary model for me. Before I get into that, let me break it down: The dress itself is made of nice material, but the design wasn't what I expected. I guess I wanted it to have frog-closures, and instead there are pearls where the frogs would go. It has the "no stick" velcro, which didn't stick to Mary or Liz's hair too much, but it stuck to both of their underwear and snagged it terribly. I'd give just the dress a B+. The purse. (Sorry the pic is so dark, but my camera has two flash settings: too bright so you can't see anything, and off and makes everything blurry.) The strap is a little small, as you'll see in the final pic, and although there is a snap closure on it, I can see it easily ripping off. I stuck the bobby pins in there so I don't lose them, since I doubt I'll use them any time soon. I'm also not much for accessories in general, but that's just me. The butterfly on it is plastic and has some glitter on it. C-The stick-on earrings. These were probably my favorite part of the outfit. I tested them, and yes, they can be re-used. They will stick to the board and restick to the doll's ear even after repeated use. They stick pretty well from what I can tell, too. (I know because Claire is wearing a pair and took a header off of my computer stand, and they didn't move.) I like how it came with the clear ones as well as the blue, so they can work with other outfits. AThe bracelet. No matter what I did, I couldn't get a good pic of it. It's pretty meh. I could make something nicer myself. It has a triple-row pattern of diamond-shaped multi-faceted beads, the two outer rows being the turquoise color of the dress, and the middle row being an alternating pattern of green and white. I guess I wouldn't have gone with that shade of green myself. The clasp is magnetic, so you don't break the bracelet putting it on and taking it off, and there's a tiny metal take with "American Girl" engraved on it attached to the clasp, which depending on your preference, will either strike you as really cute or really annoying. I personally thought it was the cutest part of the bracelet. B+The hair chopsticks, bobby pins, and instructions. Which don't work. Okay, this could just be me and the fact that I need detailed, step-by-step instructions to accomplish anything (or to be shown in person, in which case I can do it in two seconds). Basically the instructions are "grab hair and twist" followed by "stick in bobby pins and hair chopsticks". No advice on where to stick them or how. I experimented a few times with Liz's hair so I could show you all how it works, but all it did was result in Liz's hair being very messy and Liz being very mad at me. Mary's hair is too short to do it. I've yet to see anyone who has succeeded in getting the hair chopsticks in, so if anyone has doll hair chopsticks and succeeded in putting them in, please show me. It's a shame that I can't do it, because the chopsticks are very pretty (shown below). The bobby pins are black, but have a sort of iridescent quality to them. I guess they're okay. The hair chopsticks, trying to get a detail of them. They are a pearly blue color (similar to the blue glasses) and have tiny butterflies on them with swirls to either side of them. The prettiest part is that the back of the chopsticks act as a sort of a mirror (they're clear all the way around, though, as far as I can tell), which makes a pretty effect when it's reflected in the back. Chopsticks themselves get an A- for appearance, but D- for usability and lousy instructions. Bobby pins get a C for being okay for what they are. The whole outfit. Could have sworn I got a picture of just the sandals, but I guess I didn't. The sandals are terrible. Don't even think of trying them on PM feet, and they don't fit right on Mattel feet, either. The toes don't come out of the end, and the only thing holding them on is a strap in the back. They have the same plastic butterflies as the purse on them. F for the sandals. The entire outfit gets a B- for me. What you can use of it is cute, but most of it isn't usable/easily usable, especially the important parts like the shoes and hair decorations. The extras are pretty cute, but not cute enough to make up for the fundamental flaws. ~Mod edit to remove dead image links.~

I gave these glasses a B+ (an A- because they looked the best on boy dolls, but a B+ on the gals). I didn't like how sharp the ends of the bows are, and they have a tendancy to fall off the PM dolls (I tried them on Molly, and they seemed more inclined to stay on, but with Sebastian, who is a PM, then want to slide off if you move him. I cut his hair around his ears, so that might be why as well).
Actually, one of the things I like the most about the AGT glasses is the case they come with. I give that an A, just because they can do double-duty as a glasses cleaning cloth (I'm neurotic about dirty glasses and keep a lot of disposably cleaning cloths with me at all times). I wouldn't try them on my real glasses, but then, as I said, I am picky about my own glasses. But for getting gathered dust off of the doll glasses, they do a great job.

The box, which I was surprised at how big and heavy it was (about as thick as two outfit boxes). I guess I didn't take into account all the pieces, including metal pieces, in this set.
The stand when it's right out of the package. It's made out of very heavy metal. You twist a lot of things to put it together, raise it, adjust it, et cetera.
The stand put together: it's actually very nice, although it occurred to me while putting it together that I've only ever seen band teachers/conductors with stands like this and all the instrument stands I've seen are the silver ones, but that could have just been my area. A
And the books (sorry for the lousy picture quality):
The covers of the books are cardboard, and each book has about eight pages each. They are completely readable and could probably be used by humans. I noticed in the regular lesson book there are mostly Christmas songs, which makes the Christmas one rather moot, but they really are adorable and nice quality. A-
The case, which is very solid and well-made. It feels a little more plasticy than a real case, but does a good job with the faux-leather feel of cases. It's lined with a blue velvety-material.
The buckles, which appear to be upside down/open the wrong way. Oops. (Note: my clarinet case went the other way. I could be wrong that this is the standard.)
The case doesn't open very far. This is as far as I could get it open. You can see the holder for the bow a bit here.
The holder for the bow: at the other end is a place you have to place the bow in first, then you lower it down onto that part. It's pretty nifty. Keeps the bow from getting lost of jiggling around, anyway.
The rosin has its own holder underneath the violin. It's sort of hard to get it out, but again, at least it won't get lost. There are ribbons coming off of either side of the rosin holder, but since they go vertically in the case, not horizontally, I can't tell what they're for.
I give the case a B+. It'd be nice if it opened further, but it's essentially very well-made.
The rosin. It's a clear brown plastic brick wrapped up in a cardboard sleeve that says "AG violin rosin". I'm pretty "meh" about it myself. C
The violin, and the scale to my hand. It's made entirely of plastic with metal strings, but it seems sturdy, so maybe they fixed the problem with the bridge. Not as nice as I was expecting, especially since there are wooden ones the same scale at a craft shop near here for cheaper (that I may just replace this one with). C-
The bow, also made of plastic.
The bow string, which is actually a piece of ribbed plastic and not fibrous at all. I can get that, I just wish it was pulled a bit more taut. It flops around as it is and that's not very realistic. C
And Tabby demonstrates trying to hold it like a real fiddler (I looked up a lot of pictures of stances to pick one she could do. It's still not perfect). I used clear elastics and her chin to hold everything in place. It's sort of heavy, so her arm drops too low. In all, not really able to hold it right, no matter how hard you try.
I give the entire set as a whole a B-. There's a lot of bang for our buck, although it'd be nice if the main portions of it were better made.

I ended up with two pairs of these (I had someone grab me a pair at the outlet, not knowing mstangeledwebs was sending me a pair as a gift). This actually suits me fine, because they go well with the style of three out of four members of my gang, and will probably make the rounds with a lot of my crew's casual outfits. They're just that versatle.
I didn't have any trouble tying mine, because the shoelaces of mine seem a bit too long, actually. They almost trail on the ground when tied, and if Liz were actually going to walk, I'd fear her stepping on them (she's wearing them currently). As for the vinyl on the front, I think I would have preferred a black or darker gray piece of faux-suede or leather myself. I'm not a big fan of the shiny toes. But overall, they're cute, versatile, and one of the only things that AG makes that looks good on my boy doll. ^_~

I had to replace Liz's glasses after the pair she had for eight years (which I bought at a craft store) broke, and I also got a pair for Sebastian. I got the Lilac for Liz and the Rectangle for Sebastian. Lilac - I mostly got these because they looked more silver on the site. I was afraid the purple would show up more when I got them to me, but they really are a nice pale-lilac silver shade, which surprisingly compliments most outfits (I was afraid they'd only look good with AGT or pastel outfits). If you are expecting something a bit more purple, then you may be disappointed, but I love the color. Also, unlike Liz's old glasses, these ones are fitted to "snap" into place, so they won't move and won't threaten to fall off (similar to Molly's new glasses design). Glasses Case - Each AGT pair of glasses comes with a purple case, which unlike Molly's case/the historical glasses (the old tortoiseshell rounds, the gold rounds, and the silver rounds) are made of what feels to be very soft fleece rather than felt. These are much better than Molly's felt case for cleaning the glasses, and they have a flap at the top that would be better with velcro to keep the case closed, but are generally nicer than the old red and green felt cases. In general, I'd give the Lilac an A and the case an A for the added usefulness in cleaning the glasses. If you're looking for specs for your dolls, I highly recommend getting these official AG ones. --- Keri asked for clarification about Goo's review. But what exactly do you mean by "snapping" into place? I haven't noticed anything like snapping with the rectangle glasses I got for Beatrice (which she doesn't wear, because she's rebelling). Goo: Like I said, the rectangle glasses don't seem inclined to do it with certain face molds. Basically, Molly's new glasses and the lilac glasses are contoured around the standard face mold, so that they sort of "lock" into place. This means that they have a snug fit, look nice, and don't jostle or fall off when you move or play with the doll. Keri: Ah, I misread in there. Maybe it's got something to do with the wire versus plastic frames? I've got two pairs of AG sunglasses (from the Beachside Outfit and Kit's Swimsuit), and neither of them really fit into place - lots of sliding around. Goo: I think it has more to do with the shape, actually. Molly's new glasses and the lilac glasses have a contour that molds them to the face, so that they set into the cheeks, much like real glasses so (rest on the cheeks, nose, and ears to keep from falling off). The rectangle glasses and the sunglasses don't have that shape to them so they don't mold into the face as well.

First, how many outfits has AG released with the word "sparkle" or "sport" or some variation of those words in the name? It took me ages to figure out there's no review of this. So I'll make one! The Sparkly Sport Outfit had its run waaaay back in 2004. In fact, here's the box it came in: And it also comes with the old-style black AGT hanger: green chile supergirl got it for me from the outlet for its original retail price, so I just thought I'd mention how I got an outfit that's been retired for two years for retail price. Now, on to the review: The shirt. I am not very happy with the design of this. I thought it was going to be just a generic long-sleeved tee, but it has bizarre bunching on the side that doesn't stretch much, and on the left side, two ribbons trailing down. You can't see any of this in the catalog pic. this causes the shirt to hike up and expose the doll's midriff unless you pull her pants way up, which is pretty much impossible (more on that in a minute). Slightly better detail of the image on the shirt. It says "American Girl", which is underlined. The line is white with pink stars on it, and at the end of the left side of the line is a circle with "AG" in side of it. Below that is the number "08" with two very tiny rhinestones to either side of it, which I guess accounts for all of the sparkle in this outfit. The catalog describes it as "generously accented with glitter and rhinestones". I see only a hint of glitter in the white on the logo and only two rhinestones. Whatever. B-The cargo pants. You can, in fact, fold the cuffs down to hide that camo print if you don't like that (I know at least one person who passed on the outfit because of it). As you'll see in a bit, the pant legs are more capris-style, so folding them down would just make them regular pants. The pockets are actual pockets, but too tiny to stick anything in, and the material is a light, sort of canvasy material. Maybe I'm spoiled because I already have a very nice pair of khaki cargos from Peppermintsticks (see my review there) with deep pockets and durable material. Maybe I'm just annoyed that these don't even properly fit my Mattel doll, and it was a huge pain to get these on over her rear, especially since the strip of velcro in the front for the fly is very short and hardly makes the waistline any bigger to pull them on. Between the pants not going up far enough and the shirt not going down far enough, unless you constantly tug on one or the other, you'll have exposed midriff. The pants also hike up far enough to be shorts when you sit the doll down, and the belt is too short to tie properly. C-Some more detail of the pant leg (the other is mostly the same, but with a pink patch that says "AG" on it) and the belt. The headband, which is all one cloth piece and took me a few moments to untwist so it'd look right. It stretches on the bottom, and is made of the same pink camo material as the cuffs of the pants. I found the easiest way to get it on is to pull it around the doll's neck and leave it like a necklace, brush the doll's hair, then pull it back up and around her head. It took a bit of adjust to get the elastic portion underneath her hair and the rest of it behind her ears. Headband from the front (Claire's my model today). Headband from the side (the stick-on earrings came with the Butterfly Brocade outfit, not this one, even though they happen to match it well). I actually love this headband, but then, I think it could be because it's the first time I've seen Claire in a headband and I think she looks adorable. But it looks good on her, and I like it a lot. A-The shoes! Shoe-affectionados *coughKericough* will love these. I don't even care for doll shoes much, and I'm delighted by these. They have tread underneath similar to the grey sneakers, but in black and white, and are bright pink, with pale pink elastics across the top and silver toes and heels. I had some trouble getting the doll to stand, until I realized I hadn't pulled the tongues out (I didn't think they had tongues) and thus they weren't on all the way. A+Claire modeling the entire thing. You can see where the pants are more capris-like, and where her shirt is starting to ride up on her. It's a very cute outfit, but it'll give you a lot of grief and you'll have to fight with it. Considering it's retired, I wouldn't get it unless you're willing to pay the eBay mark-up and it's your absolute heart's desire, or you can get it for retail at the outlet like I did. B

A little late for Christmas, but I wanted to make sure I had this for the next holiday season (since I seem to recall they retire holiday outfits yearly).
The box. And if you've seen'em one, you've seen'em all, so I will stop beginning my reviews with the boxes now. I just did it one last time, for tradition's sake.
The dress. I didn't notice any cracks or seams in the velveteen here, but then, I didn't really look. As has been noted, the belt is sewn on, but does go all the way around and has a plastic buckle. I didn't notice the fur at the cuffs being too thin. About my only problem with the main dress portion was it shed little red fuzzies everywhere (so I probably will end up with cracks in the velveteen) and it was actually a bit too tight on Tabby, who is my second-thinnest doll after Claire (who I got the dress for, but Tabby was nearby for something else so I had her model). I am hoping that it'll fit Claire a bit better (I'm putting it on her later, because this outfit is my grandmother's favorite and she wants to see it on the doll. She only got a glimpse of it when I was putting it on Tabby. Anywho, I'll let you know if it fits better on her).
Detail of the embroidery along the skirt, which also goes all the way around. The embroidery is actually what sold me on the outfit in the end, since in general I wasn't impressed with it. It was something subtle that really livened up the entire outfit, and it looks very classy. I nice, gold-embroidered, holiday flower pattern. So I give the main dress part a B+. I may revise this if it fits Claire better.
The hat. When I first ordered the outfit, I didn't expect the hat to be any nicer than ones I can grab at the dollar store or something, but it's actually very durable and soft and made out of the same materials as the dress, so it matches perfectly and feels very nice. It fits the doll easily, too (some caps don't). A
The scarf, which is candy apple red, black, and white plaid. The red isn't the same shade as the dress on mine, I noticed. The above pics seem to show it as close to the same shade as the rest of the outfit, but mine's almost got a pinkish hue. I think it works all right. The hole to thread it through is buttonholed, not just cut out, to prevent it from tearing any. I'd prefer a traditional wrap scarf for this outfit myself, but it's cute enough. B
The boots, which were about 90% of the reason why I wanted the outfit, because they are perfect for another outfit I am putting together. I really, really love these boots, although I am afraid of scratching them with my long fingernails. I noticed in the pic where I held open the back that you can see some light through the seam in front, so the front may not be stitched tightly for mine, but other than that, they are really awesome xhitkickers. There's a velvet strap with a buckle that matches the one on the dress at the top of each boot, and the strap goes all the way around. I had some difficulty getting them onto Tabby, but not much. The velcro goes all the down to the soles. The soles are hard, either very durable plastic or rubber, and have a slight heel and tread, but are still easy to stand the doll up in. A+
So in the end, I give the entire outfit an A. It's adorable, the accessories are very nicely made, and the entire effect is very cute and festive. And I really, really love those boots.

I have this outfit for Mary, my #28. It makes such a lovely spring/summer outfit. I noticed the shoes are a little difficult to get on, but that may just be my pair and I got them eventually.

So I have been out for this outfit since the holidays officially begun, and I finally scored one on eBay (the short version of the story. The long version is full of action and intrigue, with pirates and ninjas, but since that's off topic I won't get into it here). It came with the blouse, the shoes, and the bibs, but no necklace or ribbon (s'all right, I didn't really care for either one, anyway). Short of pictures this time around, because it's time for me to give up the ghost and admit my camera is dying, so I got a couple of badly lit and posed pictures for you: *mod edit to remove dead image links* Picture number 1: the outfit, as well as the holiday tchotkes my grandmother's collected over the years and, in the background, my mom! *Waves at Mom* Anyway, I'll just go and list down the pros and cons really quick: Pros: 1.) Easily the least girlie holiday outfit, so perfect for a tomboy like Liz, but with enough feminine details (like the rhinestone buttons and cut of the blouse) to make it identifiably for a girl. 2.) The blouse is very silky and the bibs are very soft. Wonderful feeling all around. 3.) Buttons on the bibs are made of real metal. 4.) The rhinestones are nicely understated and add just a hint of sparkle without being obnoxious. (They only go halfway down the shirt, but since the bibs cover the rest of the shirt, I don't mind.) 5.) Extra velcro on the sides of the bibs and the cuffs of the shirt so all of the pieces slide on easily. 6.) The shoes are sturdier than I imagined they'd be from the pics. They're also cuter than I imagined (Julie's tights kinda made me wary of anything gold that AG makes now). They have hard plastic soles, velour lining on the inside, and are made of a smooth, shimmery gold fabric on the outside. 7.) If I do say so myself, the colors really complement Liz's green eyes and blonde hair. Cons: 1.) The bibs are very loose fitting and hard to position just right, but it's a minor quibble. 2.) The shoes were very hard to get on, despite being PM and Liz being PM. I tried them on Tabby, one of my bigger Mattel dolls (who was even wearing socks at the time) and they fell right off, so maybe Liz just has big feet. 3.) On my version, at least, I noticed something weird with the velcro on the sides of the bibs: on side, half of the velcro is sewn inside and half is sewn outside so when you close it, it makes a seam, but on the other side, both halves of the velcro are sewn inside so the seam juts out when you close it. 4.) The bibs attract more lint and hair than my black T-shirt at my mother's house (she has a small dog). I had to give it a good run-down with a lint brush before taking the pics. 5.) The rhinestones aren't real buttons and are sewn on kind of loosely, which makes me a bit nervous about them staying on. Also not sure I agree with the extra rhinestone on the neck, or even the high collar, for that matter. So all in all, I give this outfit a good, solid A-. I love it on Liz, and it's pretty much what I expected. There are flaws, like a lot of AG stuff, but unlike some AG stuff, the flaws here are easy to ignore and some may just be unique to my outfit.

Mine's skin is noticeably dark, even darker than the #26 I had here visiting. Her skin is kind of tannish-olive colored. Mine may be darker than some of the others. My flash makes Mary look a little light in my sig, but she actually has kind of an orange-ish hue. She's really very pretty.

My Mary. I absolutely adore her. I think she's my prettiest doll (although Liz is still my favorite). I did notice, however, that her hair curled inward like a bob, not outward like a flip. I like this better and I am told it's common, but I've only ever seen it in Anna's pictures of #28. Her hair being brushed so close to around her face was done intentionally. I think it makes her look more shy and mature.

Liz, my own AGT #6. I absolutely love the bright green eyes with the blonde hair. I got Liz in mid to late '97, so she's nine years old now and still as lovely as when I got her. ^_^ (Full story in the time capsule.) She was my first and, for nine years, only AG doll. Definitely lovelier in person than the website makes her look (but then, mine's PM, do I don't know if the unsettling look on the website is how the Mattel ones actually look now).

My #27, Claire Bennet. I'm not sure I'm keeping her, though. I'm having some hair issues (detailed, with pics, in the photo album section) and her left earring is pretty much half-way up her ear instead of in her earlobe. On the other hand, she's growing on me.
ETA 06/27/07: I ended up returning her and exchanging her for #24, actually. I thought I made a note of that here, since it seemed kind of important to my review. Anyway, I didn't really like the hair (it felt thin to me. I was told this normal and I was styling it wrong, which could be true) and also the aforementioned problem with the left earring being half-way up her ear pretty much cinched it: I had to return her, anyway, may as well try a new doll. I am far happier with my second choice, but just things to consider if you get her.

I got my #24 (to replace #27) to be Claire Bennet from Heroes. While I get where people would think that she looks younger than the other AGTs, I've found that mine looks a bit older, but that could be an eye color issue, or maybe just in my mind because she's supposed to be a teenager.
When I first got her, I knew it was love at first sight and she was destined to be my Claire. I wasn't terribly happy with #27 and decided to give her a shot instead. She is just so lovely, and although her hair is a bit closer to my #6's than I'd like (I like all of my dolls to look different), the curls and lack of bangs make her suitably different to me.
I initially found the double-ponytail look she came with to be the easiest to manage. I didn't want to futz around with brushing her hair and trying to keep the curls (I need a pick, I guess). I had a problem with too many freckles on me, especially on either side of her nose but none actually going over the bridge if they're going to go over her nose, but they've grown on me and I find them adorable.
I can't comment much on the eye color since, as you can see, mine now has blue eyes (swapped with Firinel's #23). I think this may contribute to her looking older. I know a lot of people groan at the thought of another blonde with blue eyes, but I adore my Claire and think she's gorgeous. I started letting her hair down, as you can see, and I love the headband on her. It's amazing how Claire looks totally different from the other #24s, and she just has a different eye color, isn't it?
A+

I give her an A. The only reason she's missing the + is because she has straight hair while a large majority of Mediterranean women have wavy or curly hair. Since when is #25 supposed to be Mediterranean? I plan to make mine Hungarian, a lot of people on this board made theirs French, Colette's was Pueblo, and even AG seems to be presenting her as Polynesian in the catalogs lately. It's okay if yours is Mediterranean, but it seems sort of odd the way you worded it, like AG made the doll to be that way and did it wrong (not to mention misleading to people considering getting it).

I like how it looks less like the skirt is meant to make the coat look like a dress and more like it's to facilitate a poofy skirt underneath it, although that really makes me wonder why the doll's wearing nothing underneath it on the site. ~_~

I called AG about this and they apologized and said that all their outfits should fit all the dolls. The said the same thing when I called about the Kickin' Back outfit not fitting Liz. Then they offered to take Liz back and fix her. I told them no and just returned the outfit. No way am I letting them "fix"/replace my beloved ten year old doll.

Once again, I'll start by reviewing the box. Well, the box this time is pink, not burgundy, and this one wasn't crushed, so I'll go with A+. Shine on, you crazy box, shine on! When we last left our reviewee, Goo had not felt like opening it to take pics for this review, so it languished unopened for half the day before Goo finally got up the gumption to do it. Here it is, all safe and snug inside of the box. The shirt, Which really does button up, for those of you who were wondering. However, like most everyone except AG, I didn't use that feature. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. The bottom has long tails for the tyin'. Imagine that! I actually really love the colors on this. The mixture of gray and different shades of pink was really striking. The pockets are fake, just flaps where they would go, so meh on those, but yay for buttons! AThe tank-top. Am I the only one who thinks this looks less like a tank top and more like a camisole? Especially since it has the thin straps and the lace at the top, similar to the camisols in AG's cami & brief set. Some detail of the lace at the top. Claire wearing just the top (pardon her hair, I don't brush it until I'm finished dressing her). I'm pretty meh about this overall, because you don't really see it (unless you leave the shirt open like I did), but it still gives me this odd exposed underwear feeling. That, and with mine at least, the front is much longer than the back, so the front seems like it should be tucked in, but you can't stuck in the back. C+Shorts! Cute, fun, stylish! Actually, they suffer the same "velcro fly is too short" problem as the Sparkly Sport outfit that makes them a bit hard to get on. The pockets aren't real, but more realistic than on the top, at least. So, what's the problem? BUNCHING!BUNCHING! AG sure does like that bunching! Again, the same problem I had with the Sparkly Sport outfit's shirt: weird elastic bunching. This isn't as annoying, since it doesn't make the shorts any shorter, but it does make them flare out in a weird way. B. Lose the bunching and we'll talk. The sandals! These are a kind of burgundy color, with "cork" soles, and they are just adorable. And, as an added bonus... THEY FIT! I've been having such a hard time getting AG's shoes to fit lately, that this was a pleasant surprise. Okay, so one of them doesn't fit as well as the other, and they're annoying to actually get on. But they're cute, and they don't fall off! A-The ribbon belt, a.k.a. "how Goo impressed himself by realizing he knows how to put on a ribbon belt". The design on it is a cartoonish flower and butterfly pattern, which is pretty cute, and coordinates with both the top and the shorts very well. B+Why did the hanger come in a plastic bag this time around? I've never seen this before... Claire models the entire thing! I actually really love this outfit, for all of its weird flaws. I think it looks awesome on her, I love the colors and the style, and it's very well-made (especially the shoes). I give it an A overall. And for those of you who can't get enough of Claire being not!Nicki (or were just wondering how the hat looks with the outfit), here's Claire wearing the hat as well. ETA: Here's the outfit with the buttom button done up. I think it looks better this way. The collar goes practically into her face if you do up any more than that, and it looks like this is what they did in the catalog pics, too. By request (elsewhere), here's the most accurate picture of the colors on the outfit, so you can see how the gray stands out in the shirt and how the belt only has pink accents.

IT'S A HAT!
I was going to leave the review at that, but then the nice mod lady of this section would kill me. I'm not much a hat person, and mostly got this because it was free Claire's from Texas and my friend and I were joking about her needing to live the stereotype (note: my friend who started the joke is from Texas). It's cute enough, I guess. I must be the only person who seemed to have some of the weave falling apart. I got it from someone who got it for free from the company, so I guess I got what I paid for. I also don't like that the wooden bead is glued on, because mine appears to be set too high so it's hard to put the hat on any of my dolls, not just Claire. B-

Molly's Meet Accessories were released at her debut in 1986 and retired with her archival in 2013. A modified version of the set was rereleased in a BeForever version briefly in 2018-2019, and again in 2021 as part of the 35th Anniversary Edition (packaged with Molly and her book), and it was rereleased as a separate item in 2022 when Molly re-emerged from the Archives.Early description: Tilt Molly’s navy blue beret at a jaunty angle and slide her shoulder bag over her arm. Inside, tuck her monogrammed hankie and a 1943 steel penny that was used during the war when copper was in short supply. Cut out the picture of Molly’s dad and paste it in her locket. While Dad was away at war, Molly kept his picture inside the heart — and she never forgot to wear it.
2022 rerelease description: Whether Molly is headed to school or helping in her community, she always has her favorite accessories: A navy blue felt beret, A shiny red purse with a shoulder strap, A woven white hankie with her monogram embroidered in red, A silver heart necklace with embossed detail, A reproduction 1943 steel-cut penny used during wartime copper shortages—it comes in a paper envelope, A letter that Molly wrote to her father at Christmastime and an envelope featuring Molly’s and her father’s addresses. When I got Molly, I got her starter collection that came with her meet accessories. I am not sure how different these are from her Pre-Mattel ones, since ther aren't any reviews of them, so I am just going to stick with what I know here.
*mod edit to delete dead image links in this review*
Once again, I ask that folks ignore my various vices scattered on my table and keep their eyes on the accessories (someday I'll have enough common sense to clear off that table before I take pics on it...). Molly's accessories include, in no particular order, her navy beret, her red bag, her handkerchief with her name embroidered on it, a reproduction 1943 steel penny, and her locket. Here is the beret. Depending on your monitor's resolution, this is actually a very accurate picture of the color. It's a little bit lighter than the wool skirt that Molly is wearing in her meet outfit, but still matches the sweater and skirt very well. It's made out what feels to be either a dense felt or a light wool (note: I'm allergic to wool, which contributes to me not handling Molly as often as I would like to. I have a rash on my hand and wrist from taking pictures of her for the reviews. So if you ever wondered if it's real wool, it is). Here is the underside of the beret. I find the hole is not as conductive to pulling the beret down over the top of her head as the images in the catalogue and on the site would have you believe. It might just be my copy of the beret, though. I don't mind because I don't put it on her that way, though. This is Molly's red bag. The main portion of it is red patent pseudo-leather (definitely not real), and the snap really does snap open and closed. The strap, however, is made out of that cheap velvet-substance covered plastic, which makes for a rather unpleasant tactile sensation. The side of the bag. The coloring is from my flash. It's really just red. You can see a little bit of the different in materials here, as well as the silver studs that join the strap with the main portion of the bag. The front side of the steel penny. It really does say "1943" on it and has Abe Lincoln, just like the real deal. Wonder if AG has ever been caught for making counterfeit money. ^_~ The backside of the penny, which has the year again and says "ONE CENT", and has a couple of branches on the bottom (if you've seen a real penny from the '40s, you know what I'm talking about). The steel penny next to a real current penny (1983 is the date on the other penny, if you're remotely curious). As you can see, the steel penny is too big to be doll-sized, but is smaller than human-sized. I am not sure if the steel pennies really were smaller than the copper ones, but I was under the impression that during the war they used the same striking plates to make the pennies, just different materials. This would probably be how AG avoids being accused of counterfeiting. ^_~ Molly's handkerchief. It comes in the box tucked into the bag, which explains the shape. You can see Molly's name embroidered on it, and it also has a red design around the edges that didn't show up thanks to my flash (but nothing showed up with the flash off. I just couldn't win). I tend to leave it in this shape (hence no folding it out for you. If you ask, I'll unfold it to show you the full size and shape) because I like how it fits peeking out of the bag. Molly's locket. There's a design on it that I couldn't, for the life of me, get a picture of, but it's a tiny heart and some flowers. This is the main reason to get her accessories, since her locket is such an important part of her story. The clasp on the locket is sort of weird. It reminds me of a caribbeaner almost. You press the loop into it and it locks into place. For some reason, it bothers me, though. No clue why, since I never see the clasp as I never take the locket off (except for these pics), but I am sorely tempted to use my jewelry making kit to put a real clasp on it. The locket really does open! Inside I have put the picture of Dr. McIntire, although it's very hard to see (it's even hard to see or make out in person). When you get the locket, it comes attached to a card which has this picture to cut out at the bottom of it. I ended up having to cut it much smaller than they suggest to make it fit into the locket. Molly with all of her accessories. As you can see, I kind of put the beret on at an angle instead of pulling it down over her head. So for my grades, I give: Beret - A B. maybe a little more if you like hats, but I tend to not to. I only put on Molly's for the sake of completion. If it really is wool, I may end up stashing it so I don't also get a rash when I play with her hair. Bag - I would have liked this better if the strap were also made of the same patent material as the bag itself. However, it's still pretty cute, and actually holds stuff, so an A-. Penny - I'm pretty "meh" about this, really. I would like it more if it were doll-sized, but I can see where that would be a problem. It's neat just to see what pennies were like back then, I guess. So for that, a B. Handkerchief - This is really pretty adorable, especially with the font they use for Molly's name. I like this thing quite a bit, and the way it peeks out of the bag to show her name just like in the catalogue amuses me to no end. A-. Locket - The picture is kind of a letdown, but the locket itself is very lovely and detailed, and such an important part of her story. I love jewelry for dolls, and I mainly got her accessories for this, so I give this an A+. Overall Score for Molly's Accessories - B+. A lot of cute things there, but the locket's really the only thing I think any Molly collector really needs.
