So, I got this set yesterday (August 21st, 2012), and was thrilled with how cute it was. However, that feeling faded when I got to the toothbrush. Holley said My toothbrush does not, and I am very disappointed. The bristle part on my toothbrush is just a chunk of plastic, textured to look and feel like bristles. I mean, I paid $14 for a few stickers, a retainer glued to its case, headgear and a fake feeling toothbrush, so I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the toothbrush had REAL BRISTLES. I wonder when and why this was changed, and if it's going to be permanent. I have the toothbrush from the "Sleepover Kit", and that one has real bristles, so I suppose I have at least one toothbrush. Is anyone else's toothbrush like this? Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about:
See how it's all one chunk of plastic?
This is the one from the Sleepover Kit:

Here is a comparison of the retainers from both sets:

Here's the headgear and braces stickers:
The braces stickers are tiny. I mean really, really tiny. I mean, I knew they would have to be to fit into the doll's mouth, but BOY are they small!

I'm going to give this outfit a B-. The fact that nothing matches bothers me. In the book, I don't see Nicki wearing purple corduroy pants anywhere! Plus, they are EXTREMELY low-rise. They don't match the shirt, either. I would have preferred a pair of jeans. Nicki wears jeans in the book most often. I LOVE the shirt. I love everything about it. The not-hemmed sleeves don't bother me at all! I think it adds to the rustic cowgirl effect. I used to have the girl sized shirt myself; it was my favorite shirt. If I could have worn it every day, I would have. The sleeves on that weren't hemmed either, and they never came unraveled. The chaps are pretty cute. I don't see any problem with them, aside from the fact that they're a bit on the thin side. Oh, and that they don't match the pants or boots. I like the boots alright, too; they just don't match the colors of the pants or chaps. I think that if the purple corduroy pants had been just plain or distressed jeans, it would have solved a lot of problems. That way, the boots would have contrasted with the chaps in a nice way, and the shirt would have gone well with the pants. Overall, this outfit was okay. If the pants hadn't been so low rise, and were jeans, it would have gotten an A from me. And of course, who doesn't like pictures? I always feel the need to add some. (Please excuse the quality of these; I hate having to take pictures with the flash, but I felt it showed the items more realistically. And I live in a cave, so there isn't much light to be had.)

I got my #55 at AGPNY back in April. I was contemplating getting her because she has the classic mold, and so many of my dolls already have the classic mold. However, she was the perfect doll for a character I created, so I seized my opportunity in New York and got her! Without further ado, I give you Lilly Ethel Hyde! I suppose actually reviewing her would be nice too, so... Doll: My doll has no apparent malfunctions or mutations. She can stand on her own, and she had/has no suspicious markings. A+ for this dolly-o. Hair: #55 (Lilly's) hair is gorgeous! It's a beautiful shade of brown, and in some light she looks like she has a bit of red splashed in there. Her wig is long and thick, and not at all dry. I've brushed most of the curl out, because I wasn't really trying to save it, however it still has some wave and bounce to it. I'm sure if I put curlers in the curl would come right back, though. The only odd thing I found was that the front sections of her hair were considerably longer than the rest of her hair. I only noticed this when I put her hair over her shoulders, thought. The rest of the time it looks fine. All of this considered, I give her hair an A-. Face: Well, um, this is where I'm going to talk about her face. : Her coloring is magnificent, and very real looking. Her lips and cheeks are pinker than some of my other dolls, and I like it. Lilly's eyes are more green than hazel, but the green is a blue-ish green. Definitely not aqua, but compared to my friend's #38, her eyes aren't the same hazel. I'm a sucker for freckles, so I think that's also part of the reason I love this doll. I'm gonna give her face an A+, because I like her coloring, eye color, and freckles. I think she looks great in all colors, but particularly good in blues and greens (it brings out her eyes) and pinks and reds (they, erm, make her look nice ) Here's a comparison shot of her and Nicki. One of the reasons I was hesitant to get her was because I thought she might look a little too much like Nicki. Side by side, I think they do look a little similar, but not at all as much as I thought they might. If you are thinking about getting this girl, I wouldn't hesitate! She is a stunner!

I just love my #30, Dani. I got her for Christmas in 2011 (so last year), and I adore her. Granted, I had been wanting her for about a year and a half, but I think she's lovely all the same. Well, enough of me ranting on about how I love this doll, and let me get down to actually reviewing her. Hair-As others here have said, her hair is very thin. I find that when Dani is just standing or sitting or laying somewhere sometimes, you can see the front part of her wig cap. This only bothers me sometimes, and if it is really getting to me, I just clip some hair over it and I'm fine. However, I find that the dolls with this layered hairstyle all have the thin wig in common. So, if thin wigs bother you, I would either plan on re-wigging, or skipping out on this doll. The hair itself is a dark brown without many highlights. It does not have the same reddish tone that Jess's hair does. Personally I think it looks lovely with the dolls coloring (but maybe that's just me...). It really adds to the "Asian" look that seems to be what AG might have been trying to achieve. Nevertheless, the hair gets a B+ from me, only because of the thinness issue. Face-I wasn't sure what else to talk about/what to call this. So, I'm just calling it "face". : As I mentioned above, my doll has really nice coloring. It's subtle, but not anemic, and she doesn't look like she's wearing make-up, either. She has balance. Personally, I think she looks Asian, and for me, she is half Japanese and half American, so I guess she can pass as multi-racial. Plus, she's pretty, and looks good in every color I've put her in so far. I think she looks particularly stunning in bright colors, like red and hot pink. So, her "face" gets and A+ from me. I can't think of anything else to review about her, so yeah. But, in a nutshell, she is a stunner, and I would highly recommend her.

Nicki is probably my favorite doll. (Shhhh...don't tell the others ) Hair: Her wig is very thin. So thin, in fact, that you can see it when she is just standing there. She has a bald patch that is obvious if you put her hair in certain styles. Her hair has also gotten very dry, and has lost most of its curl. The curl loss is probably due to my using the wire hairbrush instead of the hair pick...whoops. : Her hair came to me relatively dry, but has just gotten worse over the years. I have tried to re-curl her hair with sponge curlers, but it only curled the front parts, so the back of her head is more wavy now. Her hair is a beautiful caramel color, and I think it works well with her face and such . It looks like it is different colors in certain areas...like a lighter blond on the top of her head, and closer to brown in parts lower down or under other pieces of hair. Really nice. I'll give her hair a solid B, because of the dryness and curl problems. Meet Outfit: It doesn't bother me that the blouse is a blouse and underwear bodysuit kind of thing. I can see how it would bother others, though, the problem being that you can't un-tuck the blouse and that there are no separate undies. Personally, I like having the blouse tucked, and the underwear problem was easy enough to fix. The bodysuit thing is really pretty; I actually had the girl sized version for a while, and would wear it to school and around. So, B+ for the bodysuit thing. (I would have given it an A, but since the underwear thing might bother others, I decided to give it the B+.) The skirt is really nice. I like the color, and I think the embroidery is very well done. I don't mind that the belt is attached. I think I might have lost it if it wasn't, or obsessed over getting it tied right. Having it sewn on just makes it easier. However, my skirt is a little tight around the waist. It also rides up, and then seems extremely short. I think I'll give the skirt a solid A, because aside from the tightness and the shortness, it feels like a quality item. The boots are VERY cute. Mine aren't hard to get on, but they take a little tugging sometimes. They have a lot of mix and match potential, and feel well made. I would have liked to get a pair of socks, it's true, but that was also a problem that was easy enough to solve. A for the boots. The pieces of the outfit are all very nice, and look nice together. However, there were only 3 items, which for the price at the time ($87, I believe) seems a little outrageous. It would have been better if they had included some socks or undies. So, all things considered, I'll give the meet outfit a solid A. Doll: I got my Nicki in July of 2007. My doll has no apparent mutations, and is actually extremely cute. I'm a sucker for freckles, and Nicki's are adorable. I think that they match the color of her hair, if that makes sense. My Nicki has beautiful coloring; rosy cheeks and pretty pink lips. Her limbs are tight, but not to tight, and her body is very soft and squishy. She is noticeably squishy; my Molly is this way as well, and I got her around the same time (In July of '07 as well). She is not so squishy that I can bend her over all the way, but she is close. It is this way with my Molly as well. Does anyone else have a doll like this? It doesn't concern me, but I would just like to know. So, with all of this taken into account, I will give the doll an A+. Nicki is a really gorgeous doll, and if you are thinking about getting her, I would say don't hesitate . Even though she has been retired so long, and she seems to have hit or miss hair. She is a really great doll . Everybody likes pictures, right? I just thought that maybe I'd add one of my own. Attachments:
