This was the first AG outfit I bought, even before I had a doll! The versatility is amazing, it is really worth the money. The quality of each piece is very nice. And it is very easy to put on the doll, always a plus! A +

Released in 1998 for $14, retired in 2018. Associated with Happy Birthday, Josefina!
When mean old Florecita died and left a tiny orphan behind, Josefina was determined to raise her. The frisky black and white goat was called Sombrita, “little shadow,” because she followed Josefina everywhere. She even has a silver bell around her neck so you can keep track of her!
I finally broke down and bought Sombrita the little goat, and I would have to give it a B-. Mainly because I thought it would be more like a high-quality stuffed toy, which it is not, and because it is definitely NOT worth $18.
It is heavy, almost like a paperweight (9oz). You would not want to drop this on a hard surface. It could easily be ruined because of the weight.
Sized from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail, Sombrita is 5 1/2" wide. From the tip of its ear to the bottom of its hoof, it is 5 1/2" tall.
It is made out of a very dense resin material and then the fur is glued onto it. However, the fur on the body looks like it was sewn first and then applied to the hard resin form. The fur is loose under the belly. Since it is all resin, the appendages do not move at all, except for the tail, which is just a flap of furry material. It is more like a furry figurine that you would set on a shelf. The fur has a very nice, soft texture to it.
Sombrita is very cute. The face has character and if you have read the Josefina books about Sombrita, you will appreciate this figurine. It has a silver bell tied to a piece of glossy hemp cord. The eyes appear to be glass insets. The face, hoofs, and ears are all coated with a velvety applique' that is very low pile, and separate from the furry sewn suit that is laid on top of it. The black coloring looks like it was airbrushed on. Very nicely done, but makes the fur a bit stiffer than the white parts.
Overall, I would say that AG needs to knock $10 off the price to make it worth getting. I like the Sombrita story so much that I am glad she is part of my collection. BUT... had I known she was resin, I probably would not have purchased her.

This is the best set! The price in my opinion, is about $5 too high, but it comes with a lot of variety. The hat is simply stunning. Very nice quality rich velvety black, so pretty on Josie. The sarape I expected to be thicker than it was. Its ok. I like the wide under-skirt to use under all of her other outfits. The purse is very soft leather and just the cutest thing! I highly recommend this set to add versatility to all of Josefina's other outfits.

I am sooooo glad you added this item to the review! In AG catalog they dont even say what the shoes are made of. Now that I know that it has a plastic bottom, its not as attractive to get. Who wants plastic on an 1824 replica moccasin???

I just recently acquired this little farm set and I am a bit disappointed in the quality. The little barn house is very thin wood that is not very sturdy, as is the horse cart. The animals are cute, but overall, I would not think it would hold up too well if a child of 8 wanted to play with it. The slider lid on mine is warped as well, which seems the norm for this set. I would give this set a B.

Hinged Version: I just received my trunk and I am very happy with the quality of it. I would agree with the A+ rating.
I had purchased an older version on ebay that had some wear and tear, but I really wanted a new one with no flaws. So I have the unique opportunity to compare an older version (silver AG metal plate was on the old one) to the new version (black flat paint AG metal plate). The older version had more varnish or gloss to the wood on the outside than the newer version. I actually like the newer version better because it is less shiny, it has more of an oiled look than a shiny one.
Both trunks weigh the same, so it is safe to say that Mattel has not cheapened it with lesser quality wood or hardware.
I think this trunk is the best trunk out of all of the collections, hands down. Another nice feature is the domed top. You can load more than just the doll in the top tray and still close it.
The only other observation I would like to add is that on my new trunk, the leather hinge on the inside needed some stretching for the lid to go far back enough to stay open on its own. Very easy to fix.

I just purchased this and I really like it. Glad to pay the sale price. The colors in the rebozo are vivid and a joy to look at. The mortar and pestel are really high quality. My basket was warped in the middle. It is also very shallow, which I actually like. The flowers were very attractive! Unlike the other reviews, I really like the flowers. Bird necklace is adorable and there is no whistle hole in this one. I think you have to get the Santa Fe Fun set to get the whistle version. I am very happy with this set. A

This outfit was one of my first and most enduring picks for Josefina just because of its simplicity and high quality. Each of the three pieces have not been cheapend by Mattel and very much worth the $22.

Just bought this and the detail in it makes it worth the price. It is very small, however, it is a doll FOR a doll, so to be expected. It makes all of the details so much more appreciated! Gold hoop earrings, the mantilla and xmas dress to match Josie's, the real face embroidery rather than a simple draw-on. Stunning.

My picnic lunch set was a pre-mattel acquired off of ebay. It is really high quality and a nice food set if you dont want to plop down $54 for the birthday food set. My favorite parts of this set are the canteen and the purse itself!
