Grace is a doll that I really, REALLY do not like, but for really specific and personal reasons, haha. Mainly it's her side bangs. I don't like the way AG does them now: they were much nicer when they did them the way they did Lindsey's (under the wig). My Grace has had an eyeswap and her bangs removed, and I think she also looks much, much nicer with darker eyes. The combination of the blue eyes and her highlighted wig always made her look a little too middle-school "mean girl" to me. I appreciate that others like her, she just didn't fit the way that she was in my collection. (I looked at Grace in the store when she was GOTY and passed on her because of the bang situation--later, she was given to me by a friend who was cleaning out her doll collection, so that's how she ended up here http://instagram.com/p/B-BHMp8BQLB (After I changed her up, just for reference. I think getting rid of the blue eyes makes all the difference.) http://instagram.com/p/CAREjpDhqQA

Nicki was my 2nd doll, and she's had a new head from the doll hospital. She's cute, but her wig is one of the easiest to get messy. Give this doll to a child, and her hair would be awful really quickly. It's as bad as Caroline's, IMHO. If you're an adult or someone that's careful about fixing her hair, though, she can stay nice. I've had mine for about 3 years with her new wig. This doll also has a very thin wig, but you can't tell unless you really go in to style it. The curls hide it. I think if it was thicker, her wig would be overwhelming. I think that her hair is beautiful, but it's also difficult, and I see why AG doesn't make many dolls with this wig style. I would guess it's similar to 33, and it's CLOSE to Rebecca's, although for whatever reason Rebecca's is easier to keep in the original separated curls without them forming larger ringlets. Her hair will brush out into really strange-looking waves if you're not careful, but it can be presentable and not frizzy: that's what happened to my first girl. It was fine, just not curly. 1st photo is how her hair looks originally, 2nd is how her hair looks after I redid it. http://instagr.am/p/B_tC0yNhwGk http://instagr.am/p/CC3kmA3Muep Other thoughts: she would make a good sister to Saige or Lindsey. I think it's funny that all three were GOTYS and are such similar-looking. Also, my Nicki has a rather overstuffed body, which makes her look a bit strange in clothes.

My Lea has a sharpie-tinted wig, so she's customized, but as she still has all of her original parts I figured it would be okay to still post my review photos! Lea's wig is wonderful. It's great to style and has amazing wavy volume with a little styling, but still can be brushed out and braided for easy play. I like her eyebrow shape, although I do think they make her look more serious and older than the other dolls. Her hazel eyes are fine: I like them, but I think she would just as nice with brown eyes. The light highlights and lighter eyes frustrate me a little, because it feels like AG is always trying to throw "exotic" characteristics on their non-white dolls. Oh well. I think she's very pretty, and without those things she might have looked like Marisol, so I digress. http://instagram.com/p/B_JFYjyBcQV http://instagram.com/p/BYlO0VIBChd

Joss is a wonderful doll with a unique face mold and amazing disability representation! I always wished that they would have a disabled GOTY, but I understood the concern with having large items like a wheelchair or canes marketed as an "accessory set" that needs to be purchased separately. This works in the TM line where you can create your own character, but would be problematic for a GOTY who has a preset character. Joss's hearing aid is small enough that it's doable from a business standpoint, which I can appreciate: AG does have to make money, after all, and charging MORE for a doll that comes with a wheelchair or another large item probably would not be a good business move in terms of sales. The doll herself: I appreciate that she has brown hair/brown eyes, as a lot of the dark-haired dolls we've seen in recent years seem to have a different eye color to make them more "interesting". I also think that Joss could be a lookalike doll for a large number of little girls, because brown eyes/brown hair/light skin is a rather common combination. Her hair is nice but a little too layered for my personal taste: it's hard to style and can't be braided without a ton of flyaways. Her face mold is extremely cute. It's similar to the MG mold in some ways, I would say, with the smaller chin and smiley-ish mouth. In the second photo, the blonde doll has that mold for comparison's sake. My Joss, Eden, looks great in a wide variety of colors but especially bright shades, which is nice considering her collection is bright and beachy. http://instagram.com/p/CCrP-qMsNBR http://instagram.com/p/CDC-COTsdxW

Jess is a beautiful, beautiful doll, and one that I waited many years for to find one in good shape at a good price! My Jess seems to have a more "open", wider face than others I've seen, which I think gives her a friendlier look. Her eye openings are definitely more rounded than my Ivy and #30, which I think is just something about my specific doll and not something that I mind terribly as it makes her stand out next to those other two dolls. Her dark brown eyes are very warm and bright, and I think the auburn highlights in her wig are a nice touch. My doll's wig is a little thin, but you can't tell when it's down, and I love the very loose waves that it has: it's very low-maintenance but still easy to style compared to the stick-straight wigs that some of the other Jess mold dolls have (which are still beautiful, I just appreciate the diversity!) http://instagram.com/p/CDNFG_SMUR8

My Ivy is a modern girl with added freckles. I love her wig a lot, even though you are pretty limited in what you can do with it, because it makes her a great traveller! It looks neat almost all of the time, and her bangs keep pieces from falling in her face. I also love that she has decal brown eyes instead of pinwheel, and that she has a true black wig rather than dark brown. One of my favorite dolls in my collection for sure, and my 2nd favorite Jess mold, behind only Jess herself http://instagram.com/p/CBtKJDis2u6

My Cécile is a modern girl. I got her in 2012, when I was only 11, so I eventually did send her into the doll hospital for a new head. Her wig is my favorite of the "natural curl" wigs that AG makes. The pin-curls are just adorable, and can be accurate for modern-day Black girls as well. Her auburn highlights are beautiful. I do like that she has hazel eyes: sometimes it bothers me that AG tries to make their Black and Brown characters more "interesting" by giving them *typically* white features, but Cécile is the only dark-skinned doll with non-brown eyes to the best of my knowledge, so I'm not too bothered at all. http://instagram.com/p/CAvNe4usAy1 http://instagram.com/p/B_D7zEOh1IR

Kirsten was my first doll. She's very beautiful! Her hair is definitely not meant to be played with extensively and styled in my experience. It will stay looking the neatest if you just keep it in braids! I learned that the hard way because I got her when I was very young Despite her hair losing some of its shine and getting thinner, my Kristen still looks amazing 15 years later! http://instagram.com/p/B-Dmn0Chgb8 http://instagram.com/p/CCRo1QAMgzb

I bought my Josie on Mercari earlier this year. She is PC and came with quite a sunken-in face, but I fixed that with hot water and she's good to go now! I think that Josefina is such a pretty doll. The PC ones look sweeter, but also older, than the Mattel versions in my opinion. http://instagram.com/p/CBV6EuvMD1N http://instagram.com/p/CCpH3kls13x Her hair is difficult to manage--it's very long and tangles easily. I usually keep it in braids, although it does look beautiful any way that you style it. It's very high-quality hair, just the length and the very smooth, fine texture of the PC wigs make it look messy rather easily. She does need to have her hair pulled away from her face at the temples in order to make it not fall in front of her face.

I got #30 for $35 (!) in almost mint condition. Her name is Eve and she's currently being eyeswapped with my Caroline, so the only picture I have of her is with Claudia (#4) and Zaira (Ivy), but it does serve as a pretty good comparison image: Unlike Ivy and #4, #30's hair is layered and she has dark brown hair instead of black like the other two. It looks black when she's not standing next to dolls with black hair, though! Her eyes are just classic, pinwheel brown. They're very pretty but I'm getting her eyeswapped just for some diversity in my collection Overall I'd give her an A-, only because of her layered hair- I actually like it a lot but it's not as easy to style as many other dolls.

I bought my sweet Claudia from a board member around Christmastime. She is in mint condition and her wig is super thick, the fact that her wig cap is black makes it blend in pretty well when her hair is pulled into pigtails even though she doesn't have the shorter hairs to cover her wig. I personally like her hairstyle even with the super thick bangs but I will say that the furthermost side pieces often get pulled into her hairstyle, lol. I would definitely recommend her if you can find one with good face paint- dolls without face paint because of age don't do this mold justice in my opinion.
